I'm actually quite happy with this news. It was what I expected. After all, they are sort of the Tool of Alternative Rock/Metal. They write and tour completely at their own pace and only release music when inspiration strikes. After writing and touring the same album for several years I'd be sick to death of it and it's pretty obvious to me that Amy is too. I don't think that's it for Evanescence though, Evanescence will never die so long as Amy lives, its sound simply changes with whoever else is contributing to that sound. We're not talking about some one-hit-wonder manufactured 'pop idol' project. This is something that Amy's dedicated much of her life to so, perhaps ironically, it's never going to 'evanesce'. That's the reality of music when a band member keeps a band alive long after it should logically have died, it becomes part of who they are and who they're yet to be. You said it the best. THREAD CLOSED. ;D

I'm glad that Amy wants to make music still. But please NO FOLK MUSIC!! She should just do the singer/songwriter thing like Tori Amos. That is, if she doesn't want to do another Ev album. Either way, I just hope we don't have to wait five years again.

Some people just need to be open-minded... 'cause there are people out there who doesn't accept other musical genres... they think only rock is good music... and some think "electronic" means being in the mainstream world or a Britney Spears-Rihanna-thingy, there are some really cool and good electronic bands/artists that aren't into mainstream, like Massive Attack, Björk, many others. I think the artists/bands need to challenge themselves.

As much as I hate waiting, I actually admire that Amy doesn't feel the need to make music just because people and money tell her to. I think when she's inspired, her best work comes out, like TOD.
But I'm bummed that she's no longer saying they're having so much fun and hope to get into the studio as soon as possible, like they said right after self-titled was released. Maybe they'll change their mind after a break, and they definitely deserve a break.
I'd actually really love a solo album, and to see Amy do what she wants to do without the record company bossing her around, and without having to worry whether the work sounds like Evanescence or not.

Hey guys, I don't understand many of you who complain about the 5-year waiting. We all know that the album did take that much to come out, but Evanescence/Amy never disappeared in the middle of the waiting. TOD was released in 2006 and they had an extensive wolrd tour up to December 9, 2007. They had a break in 2008, however in September 2008 Sally's song came out, which was performed by Amy and she played it live on TV!. The break continued and then In 2009 Amy created a twitter account and started announcing a come-back album that they were already writing back then. They even played a show in New York and another one in Brazil. Then, they announced the album was going to be released in early 2010. After that, we all know that they had problems with the recording/direction and they had to rewrite/start all over. This is not their fault and it was not a good time for them as it wasn't for us either. They really though they were gonna come back in 2010, bt unfortunately, things didn't go that way. Finally the wonderful album came out in 2011, after all the drama. See? This shows us that Amy does care about fans and is always doing something to keep us busy. It was not a desolate 5 year break, like many of you say or think. She does not neglect the fanbase, she only needs to rest, spend time with her family, be normal, forget about the press etc, which is perfectly ok. We do suffer, when we don't have news for a while, only because we are obsessed fans that always want more. If Amy wants a solo career, that's fine. Many of you, who say that folk or electronic is not your thing, will fall in love with whatever Amy puts out. However, we never know what's to come with them since they never promise anything, which is good in order not to mess up if they can't do it. I do hope that Evanescence comes back someday. I do like this line up a lot and I think they like each other too. They are mature people that work together and they do it very well. If Ev release a new album, this is the line up that has to do it. I love Amy and Evanescence, so whatever they do will continue giving me satisfaction. Just wait and don't obsess to much over this.

Why the if on a new album? I have a lot of faith in seeing a fourth album, and an acoustic tour at some point(possibly before the album's release).

I don't think the break will take as long as last time, there were a lot of complications that pushed it out another year and a bit, Amy has had her time to be a wife and herself and discovered that it all came back to Ev-with all these things out of the way I see less waiting time-maybe shell start her family or try some new things-but I think it will come back to Ev sooner because she is happy right now-she took a break of Ev just after everyone left the band and she needed to figure things out, now she's in her element and just needs the inspiration to write and some rest and time with family and friends

They just need to change to a better label, which allows Amy to do what she wants...

Speaking of articles with a bad tone, check out this one by Noisecreep. Wayyy too dramatic. I honestly don't see how there would be another five years between albums.

Meh, i really don't have the slightest idea of how much time it's going to take for them to make a fourth album. And i don't know if they're going to do it either. I'm open to whatever's going to happen next, to be honest.
Seems like they had a great time working together in the studio and on tour, i'm sue they get along well enough to work together again, but we never know what could happen. Amy could easily decide, after a break, that she's in a different place and wants to try out something different (ad i'm completely open to hearing new stuff from Amy), or she could miss the band and decide to go back to the guys and write new Ev material again.
Something similar could happen with the guys. Maybe they start new projects and decide that they don't want to be part of Ev anymoe, or maybe they take a break and then decide that they're up to a new project with Ev.
One can't tell, really, a lot of things could happen. I don't rely on Amy's words that much. She was thinking around 2008 about starting a solo career and wrote some celtic music and made that cover of Sally's Song, remember? She was very excited with that and didn't really know what was next. But one year later she was with Tim and Terry preparing new material for Ev.
Also, maybe Amy finally releases that solo album she seems to be willing to do, and then goes back to Ev in a few years.
We can only wait.

On a lighter note, Amy seems to be excited about this upcoming tour in the meantime, judging from her latest tweet:
I'd say we should wait until the end of this tour and then maybe they'll decide what they'll be doing next.
