My hopes for Ev5 is that they work with a different producer and step away from the 'wall-of-sound' music from Ev3 and TBT. I'd love to hear some lighter moments in the vein of 'Like You' or 'Taking Over Me' from the first couple of albums. Don't get me wrong, I love Ev3 and TBT but after a couple of listens it feels too heavy for me.

EV5

Hi all I'm new here, previously i was just a silent reader but i finally make an account to say this ; I hope they dont work with Nick Raskulinecz again for EV5. Two album with him is enough. One album with him was enough, and one album too many. He ruined Ev3 and The Bitter Truth. I hope the next album returns to the haunting/symphonic Goth Rock genre of The Open Door (their best album) and abandons all the homogenous metal garbage that drowns out Amy with obnoxious instruments competing with one another to make the most noise. What an agonizing cacophony Nick made out of the beautiful harmonic melodies Amy wrote. I miss songs like Secret Door, Together Again, and Lacrymosa. I always loved the haunting melodic aspect of Ev's Gothic theme, they were never meant to be a Metal band.

Honestly the production is a huge reason I don't revisit Ev3 or TBT nearly as much as Fallen or The Open Door. The haunting mystique just isn't really there, and that is one of the big elements that attracts me to Evanescence's music in the first place; and I wish they would lean more into that overall, as I feel that is where they are at their best.

I feel that I have to leave my opinion here as well because i feel different.
Ev3 era was a huge piece of my life and I love that album. There's so many memories and almost every song has a connection to my life. I feel like many people don't recognize how great some of these bangers are, and I love to hear them live. It's interesting but I feel like every song of Ev will sooner or later connect to my life in some way. I would never say that any of Ev albums is ruined... what? They're just different.
Synthesis for example - that's a piece that will be fully felt and recognized as a gem only if you listen to it on a really great sound equipment. Even this album is somehow "hated" as i learned... I don't get it. Sometimes I think that people will hate everything that's not Fallen, and that's hilarious.
Ev4/TBT is different too. It arose in a moment where a lot of us was in the darkness. I personally honestly didn't want to believe it's happening. There's a lot of pieces that aren't the same as the previous songs. Not enough orchestra and stuff. Still, it's full of beautiful emotions, and it's Ev in their current form. I don't get that "let's hate everything" movement recently. I'm around because i like this band, some songs are awesome, some songs I don't revisit that often, but I will be always curious for more.
Let's focus on the things we have in common, not on the things that differ. What could be really cool on Ev5?

I never said I hated any of their albums, because I don't. Despite my issues with production choices on Ev3 and TBT, I still love most of the tracks on both albums--and I also love Synthesis--so I very much recognize how great the bangers are.
To be fair, the first two albums played a much bigger role in my life than the later releases, but that doesn't diminish how the later stuff impacted me.
But yeah, while the production on the two albums I mentioned is a reason I don't revisit them as often, it doesn't mean I think they're "ruined" or "bad". I just think there was some untapped potential there.
(Just wanting to make my overall stance clear.)
As for what I think would be cool on Ev5, would be leaning more into the ethereal and haunting aspects of Ev's overall sound--and mixing Industrial in there would be cool af imo.

I definitely hope Dave Fortman has some involvement in EV5. While I love the self-titled album and TBT, I would love another Dave Fortman produced album. I'm also hoping for a step in the direction of Amy's classical influences. More strings, piano, and choir!!! With that being said, I'll be happy with whatever direction the band takes as they are all great musicians.

But to be honest I will take anything at this point, it's kinda crazy to think that The Bitter Truth is already 3 almost 4 years old now. I also really am excited to see what Emma brings to the album.

I never claimed to hate any of their albums either. I just didn't feel Nick was suited for Ev3 or TBT, which had material that didn't live up to their potential IMO. Hearing Disappear on piano sounded so beautiful, but the metal rendition of it produced by Nick lost the original appeal of the song for me. It's okay, but not as great as it would have been with those signature Evanescence touches, with haunting melodies, strings, piano, and Amy's melodic tone. Ev3 being inspired by the ocean was so promising, but to see it end up as a metal album with instrumentals eclipsing Amy completely didn't feel like it delivered the theme well. This concept of making a cohesive band album was misplaced... Amy is the soul of all their records, her voice must remain at the forefront. You would think an album inspired by the ocean, which feature myths such as the sirens, would prioritize her voice.

Wow, I'm amazed they're already heading back into the studio already. This is so unlike Ev! Hopefully we'll hear something by the end of next year at least. Can somebody share where Amy said this? I can't seem find it.

I can't seem find it. She confirmed in an interview before getting to the stage in Rock in Rio last night. She said they will get into the studio in November for the first round, so I guess they will record an album in pieces again.
