Here we can discuss the Synthesis reworking of Hi-Lo. After 10 years in the vault it is our pleasure to finally bring this song into the light. It was the first creative collaboration with Will Hunt (Spaceway), Synthesis producer and programmer. After a decade of not quite fitting in, it finally found its rightful home on this project. From Evanescence's Facebook: "This is one of the two 'new' songs on the album. I first wrote it 10 years ago with [producer] Will [Hunt], it was the first thing we ever did together. We were friends who connected over our ideas on music and musical tastes, so we decided to go into the studio and spend a day or so to see if we had any chemistry, and that’s where this song comes from. I’ve loved it ever since. I’ve always had it at the top of my pile to release, but it never quite fit, it was never finished. The song is now finally home. I imagined it with strings and a full orchestra in that epic place. And it all came together. Then Lindsey Stirling played that beautiful violin solo. It really takes Will and I back to our own beginnings as collaborators."I don't know your heart I don't know where to begin But I could feel you erasing the rivers I'd drawn in The more I stood still the faster you were running You don't know how it feels crawling under your skin so far, so far away Don't you know we could be High or Low, you never fell beneath me And I gave up on you, but I never forgot you I can't be your friend Hold your hand while you bleed There's nothing left to give you Nothing more I need Time to let it sleep Oh, the damage was real But nothing cut me so deep I could not heal Don't you know we could be High or Low, you never fell beneath me And I gave up on you, but never forgot you High or Low You never fell beneath me And I gave up on you But I never forgot

When Amy said this was going in an electro-pop song I was expecting an actual pop song lol. The way she sings High or Low somehow feels old school Ev.

It's so heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. I get that feeling of knowing you have to let go and it hurts, but you're at peace with it. It's such a beautiful song.

Anyone else getting Find A Way vibes from this song? "...forgot you" and "end of time" are essentially identical.

I was thinking that too, actually. The only explanation I have is that she was referring to the original song, the standard non-synthesis version of it.

This song just sounds beautiful. I love the instrumental aspect of it very much.

I don't know why I was expecting more from this song, but I loved it anyway. The first verse is stuck in my head, so I woke up this morning singing it: 'I don't know your heart, I don't know where to begin'.It's indeed heartbreaking as someone put it above. It's the acceptance that it hurt and you're letting go of it. 'And I gave up on you, but I never forgot you' Amy said in 2010: Good to know the Lillywhite songs are finding their home. Well, it's been 7 years since we heard about this track!! I have a feeling that the next record will be the home of many of these songs. Anyway... ha.

I’m interested to see how Lyndsay Sterling will play into the song! I’m in love with it either way! I hope the instrumental break down in the bridge is in the album version as well. It’s sooooo beautiful!!

Why do i have a nagging suspicion that Hi-Lo and Say You will was about the same person? Not that she will reply but I think I will ask her on twitter.

Has Lyndsay Sterling commented on the song/ collaboration in anyway? I’m so curious to know what she has contributed to the song!

I know that is ancient history, even at the time the song was written, but I can't help but think of Shuan. Am I the only one?

I'm leaning more towards Ben just cause they were best friends so such a long time, but I have a feeling we aren't going to get the answer to this one. I thought about that afterwards, as well. It would make sense given the fact that this album is about the history of the band and of course Ben is an inaugural part of that.
