I am so excited for this!!!! I have always wanted concerts that include a live orchestra with Evanescence...and I think it's cool we are going to be able to hear songs we have loved for years in a while new way. For all the haters...a traditional album is happening after this...(I kinda assume it will be 2018 too)...but damn I am stoked. I can't wait to see this live!! I wonder how they will pull it off??! I am going to try and do the first show, and hopefully a few others if I have enough funds for it.

Oh. Damn. Where do I start, honestly? I thought I was prepared, but hearing Amy talk about Symthesis made me so excited! Oh my god this is HAPPENING, people!

This announcement still hasn't hit me properly. It all just feels so exciting and I can't wait to see what the band do with their previous work. Do you think we'll get some snippets of some of these tracks over the coming weeks now they've announcement it? If they're releasing this in autumn time then they mustn't be too far off from finishing the project. Ahhh!

Amy said that they are recording the orchestral section in a couple of weeks so I doubt we'll have any finish snippets (except maybe for the single if there's going to be one) soon but hopefully they're going to post some behind the scenes clips like back then with Ev3. I don't know where I read this but isn't the strings/orchestra the last thing they always record (not just with Ev but with any artists)? If so, the album is almost complete then.

That's what I've always thought. I know Amy has stated a few times that the strings are the last thing recorded for the albums so I assumed this would be the same. Still exciting though. Thanks for the clarification!

Damn, if that's the case, they really have been working hard, I had no idea. I guess they needed to make sure the idea/project would actually work and to see if their ideas would gel. And also that the plans for the tour could actually be accomplished. You can't really announce something as different as this without being completely sure of it.

I'm sure everyone in the band had their fair share of input.

Does the band really need to have any input into this project though? It's been pretty clear since The Open Door that Amy is the heart of the band, and to be honest I really see Ev in the studio almost as a different entity to Ev on stage. Sort of like the way Nine Inch Nails functions. It's very much Trent Reznor's project, and although different people (like Atticus Ross) might write and record with him, the line up (and even the sound) of NIN changes completely when they go on tour. I think it's probably helpful to view Evanescence in the same light. The Ev sound is still going to be there - Amy's just in the studio with David Campbell rather than the band members (although David's creative input has been a huge part of every Evanescence album so far, so he arguably could be seen as an unofficial member of Ev, particularly in the studio). Yes, sometimes they'll do heavier, more band-oriented stuff, like Ev3, but I definitely think there's space for Ev to strip all of that away, move away from the guitar music and focus on other elements of the band, like the orchestration, or electronic elements.
That's the thing that I really appreciate about Evanescence, now more than ever. Amy seems more confident to explore new avenues and new directions for the Evanescence sound, and doesn't seem as bound by people's expectations of what Evanescence should be or should sound like. Who knows - Synthesis the album might be completely different to Synthesis the tour, with the guitars and the rock elements brought back on stage. Or Amy might pursue a completely different performance style and view it more as a symphony - a more formal, seated affair in concert halls around the US or the world. The band doesn't need to be involved for this to be Evanescence. To me, Evanescence more describes the overall colour and tone of the music and lyrics, and not the members that make up the band.

or maybe this? : honestly I was thinking the same! Tim stomping on a Moog Taurus whilst playing a double bass. Theeee most baddass mental image ever (he needs some sort of sci-fi headgear to complete the image, just cause) Edit: WAIT. Electric double bass rooted THROUGH the pedals. Holy f*** and I didn't think the baddassity could increase any further... Edit again: He's basically a galactic baddass in my imagination right now Further edit: I feel like he needs a spin-off film... "The adventures of MC T-McCord"

I can't believe everyone is asking what the other members role is in this. They are multi-instrumentalists, people. They don't ONLY play the instruments they play in the band. I know for a fact that Tim also plays piano, synths (swimming home performances), guitar, and I think a few others.
Anyway, I've excited about this project. I can't wait to go see them live with my fancy clothes!

I know for a fact that Tim also plays piano, synths (swimming home performances), guitar, and I think a few others. Anyway, I've excited about this project. I can't wait to go see them live with my fancy clothes! It's pretty standard amongst a lot of people in the rock/metal community (especially metal elitists). It's the idea that you excel at your "one calling" and that's it. In the same way that a band should be a maximum of two guitars, a bassist, a drummer and a vocalist and there shouldn't be any other members or instruments. If there's a girl in the band they can only possibly be a clean vocalist because apparently girls can't play instruments or scream. I think it's this closed minded mentality combined with the fact that a lot of people have got it into their heads that Amy's driving ambition is to kick everyone out of the band and become the centre of attention. There's a lot of "well, she's been building up to this for ages, she's finally kicking out the band" rhetoric floating around, mostly from people who hate Evanescence, or who liked Fallen, but hate Amy, because this seems to legitimise their hatred. You then get fans who hear people shouting about this, they see a project wherein there's apparently no place for Jen, Tim, Will and Troy to play the instruments they traditionally play in the band, and this is what happens. The reality is that they're all very talented and every one of the band members can actually play bass, guitars, drums and keys (and sing) to a lesser or greater degree. If you've been in the studio with your band and you've got a creative mind, it makes sense where perhaps you're a guitarist, but you've just thought up a great little drum pattern that would work and you'd jump on the drums to show the drummer what's in your head. Very few musicians can "only play one instrument". Even if they claim this is the case, they could probably give another instrument a decent shot if they were forced to.
