harridan, do you know how crazy people in Japan are about this festival? I'm thinking about heading out for this at 6am just so I could try and get as close to the stage as possible. Fans here are quite devoted to their favourite bands. Actually, for most concerts tickets are numbered even if there are no seats and people are let in the venue in groups based on their ticket number. If you buy your ticket early, you've secured yourself a place near the stage. It's neat because you don't have to hang in front of the venue all day. Festivals, however, are different. There are no assigned numbers because of a number of reasons. First, it's hard to group 50000 people and make them all wait in front of the venue. Second, people arrive at different times of the day. Third, there's a lot of movement during the day. You probably don't expect to be able to survive in the mosh pit all day in order to have the best view. From experience, the crowd in the front changes for every band. Japanese people are very disciplined and when their favourite band's performance is over, they just move somewhere further and free the place for the next group of fans. A couple of years ago I went to Summer Sonic. I was hiding in the shades for the first 3-4 acts and then had absolutely no problem getting right to the front for BFMV. I guess it won't be very different for Ozzfest, apart from the lack of masses of people with heat strokes. I'd only go so early if there were some special events announced (like signings) because they accept a limited number of people. If you want to be 100% sure that you'll have the perfect view, you can purchase a VIP upgrade (not announced yet) because there's usually a special area near the stage for VIP ticket holders but, in my opinion, it's not worth the money.

I'm so pumped for this -- still got 5 months to go though lol How popular would you say Evanescence is in Japan? They're one of the big players for the Saturday show, so that makes me a bit worried about getting to the front when their time comes. I know Avril Lavigne is super popular over there (or at least, that's what it seems like). I'll buy the VIP pass if that becomes available! Hopefully it does. Thank you so much for the info!

I know Avril Lavigne is super popular over there (or at least, that's what it seems like). They are popular enough to have a few concert dates in Japan during every tour, special CD editions and, back in the day, even some limited clothing lines like this one with h.Naoto: Nowhere near as popular as Avril though. Avril is always on magazine covers, comes almost every year and her concerts are always sold out.

You guys! I just saw on Evanescence's Facebook that they are adding more dates. They just announced US dates! If I wasn't on my phone I'd link you all to the post, but I was too excited to wait until my desktop booted up! So...yay!

I seriously had to re-read that post three times to make sure I wasn't seeing things and that it was actually real.

Can't remember who was interested in VIP upgrades and I'm too lazy to read back... Anyway, they will go on sale this Thursday. There are two options for day 1:
$90 VIP seat upgrade includes: a seat in a bar lounge on the side of the stage 2 drinks laminated pass VIP cloakroom separate entrance and toilet priority lane access to the merch stands a festival T-shirt
$540 VIP SS upgrade includes: a seat in a bar lounge in front of the stage 2 drinks VIP lunch laminated pass VIP cloakroom separate entrance and toilet priority lane access to the merch stands a festival T-shirt
This is the price you have to pay on top of the basic ticket and does not include processing fees. Only Day 2 VIP packages include a M&G with Ozzy and they cost about $900.
I'll pass.

Is the only way to be infront of the stage to get the $540 VIP package or will there still be a front section for normal concert goers?
EDIT: I just looked at the website at it looks like it's at the front, but quite a bit back from the stage, so no thanks, I rather be at the front!
Looks like the catwalk goes right out to the lounge from the stage which would be super cool, but you can still be on the side of the catwalk without having to be in the lounge so meh
By the way have they released a timetable yet? I still don't know if I'm going to be able to catch a train back to Tokyo after the festival lol

Really?! Most concerts or festivals I've ever been to finish at 11pm. Headliners for any festivals I've ever attended go on about 8:30-9:00pm.
