Evanescence are still on Wind-Up's label. Bicycle has the master recordings of all PREVIOUSLY mastered material. Bicycle has the BACK CATALOG of whatever Wind-Up artists masters were sent to Bicycle. This means that instead of Fallen, ABH (possibly), TOD, and Evanescence being distributed by Wind-Up, it will now be distributed by Bicycle. Plus, any new studio albums. At least this is what my common sense tells me... I'm probably wrong though. This sounds likely to me too. But has anyone tweeted Wind-Up or anything to ask about it? Maybe they'd give us a better explanation of the situation. I would personally like to see Ev move to a new label as I don't think Wind-Up is the right fit for them anymore. I think they did a fantastic job in the beginning, and they've had their moments during TOD and Ev3, but overall, I think Ev needs to move on. As much as everyone around here hates the rapping in "BMTL", it was a brilliant move on Wind-Up's part. It's very likely that Ev never would've been given a chance without it. It was smart. I think they did an overall great job promoting Ev during Fallen. I think they also did pretty well at the beginning of the TOD and Ev3 eras, but then they always seem to kind of abandon Ev after the first single or 2. Like they don't know what to do with them after that. I think Ev needs a label that's going to let them grow and evolve and do their own thing, and understand how to properly promote the kind of music they make, not just try to get more BMTLs and MIs.

I kinda find it funny how many people are so happy about the record label change. I mean, does anybody actually knows anything about this new record label? I haven't heard of them and I'm quite concerned that they'll be worse than windup..... Seriously how do we know if this change is any good for EV?

Bicycle only has distribution rights for master recordings of past and future Evanescence material. They're not Ev's LABEL. Wind-Up is still Ev's label. I'm assuming that once the contract is up/fulfilled Evanescence will then move to Bicycle. I'm sure Seether's contract was up being that Wind-Up released a Greatest Hits album and didn't inform Seether of this until after Wind-Up announced it to the public. So I'm sure that's why Seether and other artists are no longer under the "Artist" tab on winduprecords.com.

It's possible that Ev is promised to the new label, but still has another record on their contract with Wind-Up.

This sounds like it could be possible, except that I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Seether actually had a seven album contract with Wind-Up, which means that they still have one more release to go. Hmm, this is all so confusing, I wish Wind-Up would just explain :/

That was only when Dennis Rider was their manager. After he was fired/counter-sued, that 3 album contract was expunged and a new one brought up. Plus, this album thing is very obscure anyway. We're unsure what Wind-Up defines as an album. Seether had 6 studio albums and 1 video album (One Cold Night). That video album may had met the criteria for what Wind-Up specified as an album. We just don't know.

The writing is on the wall for Wind-Up. Especially since the death of co-founder Alan Meltzer and what happened to him leading up to his death. Quite honestly, I think they're quietly going out of business, selling things off one-by-one to try and recoup and squeeze any remaining pennies out of it. I highly doubt Wind-Up will be around in 3-to-5 years... But it's not as though a band like Evanescence needs a record label these days anyway. (and by that, I mean that all an artist with an established fanbase needs nowadays is the internet and people will still buy their stuff)

I dislike iTunes/digitally released things as it's not that high of a quality unless it's specifically mastered for the specific platform they're putting it out on. I dunno. I just like the idea of physically having something in my hands and listening to it on my CD player. *shrugs*

I like to think that Ev would still press CDs if they were to go without a label. With crowd-funding as big as it is right now, I think Ev could easily get the budget they need to do so, as well as fund a tour and probably a few nice music videos. Also, Ev collectors would probably be very pleased with that sort of plan because more often than not bands have some pretty exclusive items up for pledge. Back on topic: I think VMNT is probably right. I can't see them pulling enough revenue on the bands they have left, so perhaps these are the end days of Wind-Up Records. As annoying as they've been in the past, it's still sad to think about. After all, they did bring us Evanescence and they did a pretty good job of handling the band in the Fallen and TOD eras.

There are all my hopes in one single paragraph. Including the collectible items and the tour... <3

Would we get any CD singles without a label?

Ring there is a chance to crowdfund an album via services like Kickstarter. but CD singles? maybe if there would be some extra vinyl or something... i don't think that common people would be interested in CD itself - these were always made for radio and promotional use. Even when we collect them.

Evanescence would be picked up by FAR superior labels if they escaped from Wind-Up. Let's not even pretend they'd need Kickstarters.

I don't think it's a question of whether they would be picked up by a label, but more a question of if they'd like the deal that the label offered them.
Without a label, they wouldn't have to sign a touring contract that they can't get out of, they would actually make money off of album sales and the creative process wouldn't be stifled by label management that don't approve of certain songs, lyrics or sounds.
It definitely doesn't stop the notion of having physical CDs and singles, but they would probably be a limited edition thing due to the state that the C.D market is in.
I think the crowdfunding thing is a good idea for Evanescence to add more fan-interactivity to the making of the album, but I wouldn't think they'd need to rely on it.

Well, Ev is no longer listed under Wind-Up's Artist page. Attachments:
