Since Melt suddenly decided he wants to leave EvThreads, I've decided to make a V.2 thread. And can a moderator lock the other thread?
Yes. It has been locked and here is the link to the Song of the Week V.1 thread. -AeternusAmatorius I'm copying Melt's post, since I'm lazy: Basically, at the beginning of every week I'll update the first post of this thread with a different Evanescence song. Over the course of that week (if you choose to keep up with the thread) you give that song special attention. When you listen to Evanescence, you listen to that song. Everyone spends a few days thinking about that song, then over the course of the week we come back here and post all the good things we can say about that song. Only good things, it's like an appreciation thread... Especially if it's a song you don't like. Then we discuss all the wonderful details people point out and generally wank about it for a few days. Also, if you have suggestions for the next song of the week, post them with your love for the current song. The new Song of the Week: WhisperCatch me as I fall Say you're here and it's all over now Speaking to the atmosphere No one's here and I fall into myself This truth drives me into madness I know I can stop the pain If I will it all away If I will it all away
Don't turn away [Don't give in to the pain] Don't try to hide [Though they're screaming your name] Don't close your eyes [God knows what lies behind them] Don't turn out the light [Never sleep, never die]
I'm frightened by what I see But somehow I know That there's much more to come Immobilized by my fear And soon to be blinded by tears I can stop the pain If I will it all away If I will it all away
Don't turn away [Don't give in to the pain] Don't try to hide [Though they're screaming your name] Don't close your eyes [God knows what lies behind them] Don't turn out the light [Never sleep, never die]
Fallen angels at my feet Whispered voices at my ear Death before my eyes Lying next to me, I fear
She beckons me shall I give in? Upon my end shall I begin? Forsaking all I've fallen for I rise to meet the end
Don't turn away [Don't give in to the pain] Don't try to hide [Though they're screaming your name] Don't close your eyes [God knows what lies behind them] Don't turn out the light [Never sleep, never die]
[Servatis a periculum] Don't turn away [Don't give in to the pain] [Servatis a maleficum] Don't try to hide [Though they're screaming your name] [Servatis a periculum] Don't close your eyes [God knows what lies behind them] [Servatis a maleficum] Don't turn out the light [Never sleep, never die]

I don't think there is a reason to lock the other thread. I think I'll just merge the threads and Edit Melt's first post with your first post on this thread.Ehh, let me talk to other mods/admins first.Never mind. I locked it and added Song of the Week V.1 thread to your first post.

Thanks for taking over this, Ring! Ah, "Your Star". A definite Ev classic. It's got all the defining elements of Ev's music rolled into one song - piano, strings, choir, electronic sounds, delicate beauty, ass-kicking heaviness - it's just got it all. I always loved how this song starts out so softly and tricks you into thinking it'll be a ballad, but then it turns into one of their heaviest songs. The dynamics throughout the whole song are perfect - it makes the quiet moments more beautiful and the loud moments more epic. This is the kind of thing that I think was sorely missed on Ev3. The instrumentation in this song is so great. The guitar parts are absolutely killer, especially during the bridge and after, when they mimic the piano. It sounds so intricate and epic. And I adore the organ in this song! It sounds especially awesome when combined with the grooving bass in the first chorus. And of course, the piano is phenomenal. By far, some of the coolest piano work from Amy. I loved that she really pushed and challenged herself in this song. I think this is overall one of their best songs lyrically. Just going through the whole song, I really love every single line. They're so powerful and beautifully written. They have a sadness to them, yet also this kind of hardened attitude towards those feelings of sadness and abandonment. It's like she's saying, "Yes, I'm broken and alone, but I can figure things out on my own." I love how experimental she got with the lyrics. It's not all the typical stuff you'd expect from her. I always found the line "the mechanical lights of Lisbon frightened it away" to be really surprising and ususual. And I think the chorus is particularly unique. They're also some of my favorite Ev lyrics ever. They just evoke so much feeling and abstract imagery for me. I also really love the lines "can't break the silence, it's breaking me" and "all my fears turn to rage". Those lyrics are great on their own, but combined with the climactic music at those parts, it just makes them all the more powerful. And I think this is hands-down their best song live. It's even more epic live, and Will's drumming adds so much more power to the song, especially at the end. It was so awesome finally getting to experience this song live last year. It always sounded amazing in recordings of shows, but actually getting to physically witness it is a whole other story. Just a masterpiece.

I honestly love this song. I like metaphors, and I've always adored the line ''How can the darkness feel so wrong?''
I wish I could master Amy's singing technique for this song. When I ever I try to sing the ''staaaaar'' part, my voice usually breaks or doesn't come out correctly.

^Yeah, I know. I hate how in the latest tour they finished the shows with MI's bland piano notes.

Your Star is amazing, but we all know that. I like how it sounds a little different live compared to in the studio; the piano seems more prominent at the end of the song live while the strings seem more prominent at the end of the song in the studio. And poor Amy, I can't imagine singing that song night after night. Not easy, especially since she belts it out and basically never switches to the other register. You gotta appreciate the musicianship of this gorgeous song, from how it's written to how it's performed. It's definitely one of their best ever, in my opinion.

Hmm this is a more challenging one for me, as "Taking Over Me" is my least favorite from Fallen. But here we go!
First off, I have to say that this song has one of my favorite little things on Fallen - the glitching at the end of the 1st chorus! I have always adored that little part. It's such an awesome effect. I can still clearly remember hearing that for the first time and just being like, "Holy crap! That was so cool!"
I have also always really liked these particular lines: "I lie awake and try so hard not to think of you. But who can decide what they dream? And dream I do." They're just really lovely.
I'll also say that listening to the demos lately has warmed me a little to this song. Particularly demo 1. I like it better than the Fallen version. I think all the electronic sounds make the song more interesting to listen to. But I absolutely love the intro to demo 2.
I also really like those bits of faint, atmospheric guitar that are found in all the versions. Very pretty. And in the Fallen version, I think Amy's harmonizing during "so many things inside that are just like you are taking over" is really beautiful.
I think this song benefits from a live setting. It gains a lot more power and energy. I also really liked Ben's guitar part that he'd do during the end, like at Cologne. Wish that were in the studio version.

I definitely agree with this. When I first listened to this song on Fallen, it was one of my favorites for a time. Though I wouldn't consider it a favorite now, I still think it's a really great song. I love the guitars in the verses, and how the first verse seems more electronic than the second. It all has a wintry vibe to me for some reason, but maybe that's just because I bought Fallen in the winter.

Taking Over Me is cool... Nice string arrangements, but the guitars are a bit boring. I do recall, a time when I loved this song, like ten years ago...
When can we talk about Your Star, I noticed people got confused about the song of the week and I really have a bible of comments on Your Star. It's my anthem.

Wouldn't it kinda defeat the purpose of having a different song every week? Something nice about TOM: I like that glitchy thing in the ending of the first chorus. Worm Baby I think you got confused, because I can't hear any glitching at the ending of the first verse.

Eh, I thought it'd be alright since they're just a week late, but whatever you think would be best since you're running this. And whoops, you're right! I meant that glitching at the end of the 1st chorus haha.

hm Taking Over Me is one of those songs that rarely listen to, but when I do I always think to myself, "daum this song rocks!" I adore the piano, it sounds so sweet, and I agree with Ring the glitching after the first chorus is amazeballs
