Lyrics:
Farther Away - 2001 - 2002 Demo:This version begins with a piano, sound effects, and a faint guitar.0:00 - 0:20
I took their smiles and made them mine
I sold my soul just to hide the light
And no I see what I really am
A thief a whore and a liar
I run to you
(Run away from this hell)Call out your name
(Giving up, giving in)I see you there
(Still you are farther away)Farther away
I'm numb to you - numb and deaf and blind
You give me all but the reason why
I reach but I feel only air at night
Not you not love just nothing
I run to you
(Run away from this hell)Call out your name
(Giving up, giving in)I see you there
(Still you are farther away)Father away
1:48 - 2:02
Don't leave me here by myself
I can't breathe
I run to you
(Run away from this hell)Call out your name
(Giving up, giving in)I see you there
(Still you are farther away)Farther away
I run to you
(Run away from this hell)Call out your name
(Giving up, giving in)I see you there
(Still you are farther away)Farther away
Farther away
Farther away hey
Farther away hey -ey hey
Farther away e yeah e yeah e yeah e yeah e yeah
Farther away

Some Things To Think About/Debate Over
-This song was played live and put on the "Anywhere But Home Live CD" as Track #7 (5:02).
Song:
-People who don't know any better call this song "Further Away." This is wrong. Very wrong. The English major inside of me will throw stale internet muffins at you if you say this. There is some debate as to whether or not the 2001 - 2002 demo was called Further Away and the Final Edit was called Farther Away. This is also nonsense. This topic has been hammered out on the forums of yester-year:
The demo version of it was called Further Away... but it was changed for the proper version which would eventually be left off Fallen (according to what I read on Evboard many many moons ago anyway)
But that doesn't make any sense, since in both songs she clearly sings
"Still you are - farther away"
Use farther when referring to distance. Use further to indicate a continuation or extension in terms of time, degree, or anything else other than distance.
~New York is farther from Florida than from Georgia.
~We went farther away from home that day than we had ever gone before.
~We could argue this point further, but we would probably not get any closer to agreeing.
~The problem of global warming calls for further study.
When in doubt, consult Grammar Girl (she is amazing):
The quick and dirty tip is to use “farther" for physical distance and “further" for metaphorical, or figurative, distance. It's easy to remember because “farther" has the word “far" in it, and “far" obviously relates to physical distance.
SOURCE-A "funny" song meaning as posted by Ben Moody:
Farther Away:
Amy and Ben were playing tag. Amy sucks at that game. She's always "it"
-On the Mystary EP, this track has one skip in the beginning (0:01).
-Interestingly enough, this song had the "Album Version" title attached to it on (all?) of the BMTL Singles (Track #3). This is confusing since the Final Edit of Farther Away was a Fallen B-Side, not on the actual album (Fallen Japan notwithstanding). Since this single came AFTER the Fallen LP came out, it is unlikely that this was just a mistake due to Farther Away being removed from the LP at the last second (the BTML Single came out 04/22/03, which was more than a month after the LP came out, which was on 03/04/03).
-There, surprisingly, aren't many EvRumors about Farther Away's absence from the Fallen LP (as compared to "Missing" or "Breathe No More," who each have at least one EvLore attached to them). One EvRumor was that FA was selected by the Japanese markets to be included on their CD and insisted that the song be exclusive to their release (since their CDs are more expensive than imports!). This doesn't make much sense though (to me at least). Another EvRumor is that FA was removed due to the large amount of rock songs already on the album.
-EvRumor had it that "Farther Away" was released as an airplay promo single in Spain, much like "Imaginary."
EvExpert, at one time, listed it as such on his uber!discography website.
-During the Fallen tour, this song was usually after "My Last Breath," but before "Breathe No More." Earlier concerts have it played before "Even In Death," an Origin LP song.
-DoubleA and myself were hammering out the details as to who sings the "far away from this hell/town" part in the Demo & Final Edit version. I (now, after listening to it with earphones
) agree with DoubleA:
Farther Away Demo doesn't have David in it. That is Amy using her lower register. I also remember reading that David was suppose to do the backing vocals, but he wasn't comfortable with using the word "hell" in the context that it was used in; not sure hoe true that is.
-Early on, there was quite a bit of debate as to which one IS said - hell or town. EvLore seems to state that 'hell' is said in the demo while 'town' is said in the Final Edit.
-Josh Freese played drums on this song; Francesco DiCosmo played bass.
-Ben apparently helped with the drums on Farther Away, possibly a reason why he played the tribal drums in his rendition of the song during the Cologne, Germany 10-17-03 performance:
158. Jill - You've mentioned you were a drummer before a guitarist, I think. Will we be hearing any Ben drumming in the future?
i actually did all the tribal percussion on Farther Away. and yes, i will be doing some drum work on the next record. however, for the most part, it looks like rocky will be handling that end of things
-According to Music Notes:
(1) Farther Away is written in A Minor.
(2) It is set in a time signature of common time and performed in a tempo of 86 beats per minute.
(3) Amy Lee's vocals range from D4 to the note of E5.
