Evanescence's Amy Lee: 'I Don't Have the Voice to Sing Two Albums' Worth of Songs' Amy Lee looks back on the "tough choices" behind the setlist of Evanescence's most recent tour. 19 May 2022 - posted on ultimate-guitar.com This January, Evanescence wrapped up the extensive North American tour that started last November and saw them cross paths with rocker colleagues from Halestorm. The tour has seen Evanescence perform a healthy number of songs taken from the band's latest album "The Bitter Truth", released in March last year.
Currently, the band is gearing up for the European leg of the tour which is set to begin with a June 5 show at the Theatre of Rock in Athens, Greece, and in light of the upcoming tour leg, the band's vocalist Amy Lee recently sat down for a quick chat with Chaoszine.
Commenting on the previous tour leg's setlist, Amy Lee said that although the band's latest album was well-received, she says that she no longer "has the voice" to perform two albums' worth of songs back-to-back (transcribed by UG):
"It's been a long time, and we have toured in between the two albums. So we've really had a chance to play our other songs a lot, and it's wonderful. But having all these new ones that are such a representation of us now - I mean, we wish we could play the whole entire album. But you know, I don't have the voice to sing for long enough to do the whole entire album plus another album worth of songs. So - stuff."
Commenting on the setlist for the upcoming European leg of the tour, Amy Lee said:
"Now we're going to make tough choices. But we're planning on bringing, for the most part, that setlist to Europe too, because we have a beautiful show that we just really want to share. But we'll change it up a little bit."
Looking back on the experience of touring with all the Covid-19 precautions after almost two years of staying at home, the vocalist said:
"And it was different, you know, it's different. You have to be very careful, there's all kinds of precautions, especially in November, it was big-time starting to change and open up a little bit, which is great. But, to be able to step back on stage again, after not doing it and not knowing if and when we'd ever be able to do it again for two years. It is such an incredible, beautiful gift. And we just have a new appreciation for what we're able to do."
