Here's a short interview Amy's done with a gaming page on Tumblr:
Behind the Game Spotlight: Amy Lee Welcome to our Behind the Game Spotlight where we dive into the behind-the-scenes of video games. We chatted with Amy Lee from Evanescence who recently recorded a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” a couple months ago for the latest Gears 5 commercial which later led them to record a full-length version! Read on to learn more about her collaboration with the Gears franchise and her passion for video games.
Tell us about your latest song for Gears 5 and how you got into that project.
The guys at Gears reached out to me about singing for the trailer, which is a huge honor that I was very stoked about. The direction that producer/orchestrator Bobby Tahouri was taking with that dark and cinematic intro immediately made me want to hear my band throw down on the full song, so we did.
How do you think musicians and gamers can collaborate more?
Games and music go so naturally together. Just like a good film. Every great game has a score that makes the battle more intense and the win more victorious!
What is your favorite video game of all time and why?
Zelda: Ocarina of time originally on Nintendo 64. I’ve put more hours into that game than any other, it’s magic. I remember playing the game for the first time, running across Hyrule field, and it began to get dark, and then randomly started raining. Not because I had done anything to trigger it, just because the game was keeping its own time, and it was night in the game- it was like a REAL WORLD and that totally got me! Not so wild a concept now but when I experienced that kind of immersion for the first time in the 90s it blew me away. Probably my favorite thing about all the Zelda games is the music. There are so many good themes, and music is a big part of Ocarina of Time, and Majora’s Mask, in particular. You have to use music to unlock all kinds of secrets. Puzzles and problem solving are also my jam, and that’s what The Legend of Zelda is all about. Plus time travel! This game’s got it all!
Thanks, Amy! You can check out the song here!
