I just think it'd be hilarious if they supported Portishead, in Portishead (not that it's really got any venues suitable). I can just imagine Amy fangirling like crazy in this situation :')

I have two things to say about Synthesis: 1st. This is a fancy way to make a "Greatest Hits"/Compilation album, giving to your fans something they knew but in a new way. I love the fact we got Lost Whispers and Synthesis to sum up almost 10 years of Evanescence's music. 2nd. The CD mastering of Synthesis is a little messy, sometimes vocals and orchesta are so loud that you can't hear the programming. To me, the best way to hear this album and don't losing any detail is listening the 5.1 surround version of the album included in the DVD. I agree with your second point. Not polished enough in either the production or the mixing/mastering for me. As I said before, it makes it sound more like a studio version of a live album, rather than an actual studio album. That and Amy's much freer, less polished vocals. After listening to Synthesis a few more times, I can honestly say it's not for me. And for the first time ever in Evanescence's career, it's Amy's voice that puts me off the most. I can hear every scoop she makes to hit a note, every time she doesn't quite nail it, every awkward change in vocal timbre mid word. Sorry to anyone I annoy by saying this because I know how much so many of you seem to love it, but Synthesis is definitely not for me. I just think it sounds a bit amateurish. I'm not really fussed on many of the electronic elements either if I'm honest - they so often sound awkward. And the mixing, the production, the rawness of Amy's voice...it just doesn't do it for me. There are definitely moments I like, but not enough for me to revisit Synthesis very often I think. I hope the next proper album a bit more polished. I hope it doesn't sound like I'm just trashing Synthesis for the sake of it - there just aren't really any other places I can share my thoughts on Evanescence other than here!

I can totally see where you are coming from! After the newness and shock wore off, I started doing my usual critiquing of the album. Amy voice sounded off to me but then I realized it wasn't crazy produced and highly layered. Thinking back to the live shows I realized that this album is supposed to sound that way. Rough but not too rough. I think to show the difference between old and new. Idk. I don't feel like I'm making any sense.

I really wish more of the songs from previous albums were redone like Never Go Back. I have the CD in my car, and I just keep listening to this song on repeat There is so much going on, so many new elements, and I feel like I notice something new on each listen. I also love the new intro for this one. Songs like Lithium/My Immortal/Lost In Paradise/Secret Door...They are beautiful, no question about it. But I feel like I really don't have an incentive to listen to them more than once in a blue moon. Despite sounding great...There just aren't enough new elements. In a perfect world for me, these songs would have been switched out for either heavier songs or songs that had some noticeable electronic elements. (Ex- My Last Breath/The Only One)

I don't feel like I'm making any sense. That makes a lot of sense to me. It's very raw an unpolished. It's why a lot of people who are listening through conventional headphones/smartphones and other devices aren't quite getting the full impact (even my studio grade headphones failed me to some extent on Lacrymosa). There's very little compression, very little vocal editing and a lot of dynamic. I find when I play it in the car I very much appreciate the steering wheel volume controls because I find myself raising the volume on quiet sections and dropping it on loud sections to obscure the engine note without deafening myself. It's very similar to the experience I have when listening to pure orchestral recordings where the sound is mostly coming from ambient room mics. (which makes sense because this will be primarily where the sound from the orchestral elements will be coming from). It's somewhere between a live and a traditional studio recording in that respect, as you've pointed out. I've noticed a lot of people picking this out without necessarily realising why they're hearing what they're hearing. We're almost certainly hearing the orchestra as one thing as opposed to loads of individual tracks with each musician in their own booth tracking their instrument (as the behind the scenes footage suggests). The orchestra are lots of people playing along as best they can with one another, so it'll never be as coherent as it would be if an engineer had meticulously edited each individual instrument to coincide with one another. So you've got the 'live' element (orchestra), mixed with the studio element (electronic sounds) and Amy's voice which they decided to opt for a live feel by leaving in the (wait for it...) imperfections. I can definitely get why some people may not like this so much (especially perfectionists with a good ear for music). Personally I larrrrve it.

Yea I got the confirmation email that it shipped last wensday. But I’m not too sure how long things take to get here from Germany. Yes the lack of shipping number also has got me worried. But maybe they don’t have tracking for international orders? I think it depends on what type of shipping is used, I believe standard international air mail doesn't offer tracking so that's probably why. Mine came today. They put Australian instead of Australia.. so perhaps that’s why it took so long. A little disappointed the score book is only 2 somgs.

Because you said this, I just noticed a mess up in the scorebook because it's suppose to be 3 songs. It should be "The In-Between". But they have Imperfection listed twice on accident. I took scans to show. They should have just done "The In-Between" & then "Imperfection". Instead of showing "The In-Between" going into "Imperfection" twice. This should be labeled "The In-Between"- And here is the "Imperfection" page- EDIT: I should have also scanned the back of 2nd Imperfection page to show it's the same as the first but you all get the picture.

To get back to Amy's voice, the one thing that bothers me the most on this record is her pronounciation. In My Immortal it sounds like she is saying "I cwied" at some point, some letters are more silent, the "your star"(especially star) sounds weird at the beginning of YS. Otherwise it sounds like she just recorded a version of the songs, but not THE version. It's like she said to herself "Uhmm I feel like singing this this way today" but didn't consider that this will be a final version. Am I making sense ? lol But that's just nitpicking.
