I really, really wish Amy would go back and re-record this again acoustic and with harp. It's such a beautiful song. Besides, I'd love to hear just Amy's vocals on this. While the lyrics may be a bit more simple than latter songs, I think they're gorgeous. Especially the last two versus. I think this would fit in well on an EP of songs like, Swimming Home, Before the Dawn (I wished she re-record that too!) Secret Door, Good Enough acoustic. Hehehe. At any-rate, I love this song.

That would be amazing with harp, then add some lead vocals for her in there!

"Listen to the Rain" is a song written by Amy Lee of Evanescence. It was sung by a choir belonging to Pulaski Academy in Little Rock, Arkansas, at Amy Lee's graduation ceremony. John Lee: Listen to the Rain was something she wrote in high school. SOURCE (6:37)-Listen To The Rain was cut from Origin, for some reason. Out of all the other Outtakes (Spanish and Catherine) it can be assumed that Listen To The Rain lasted the longest (at least up to the point where Brad was ripping the songs onto his computer), since by the time Brad was naming the last song (Demise), Listen To The Rain was still scheduled to be on the CD. It was probably cut due to either time or money (or a combination? Maybe they were able to use cheaper CDs which had a lower minimum time allotment if LTTR was cut?) Maybe it was cut since this CD was suppose to be used to "shop around for labels" (as per what Amy says in interviews) and, a choir-song wouldn't make much sense on such a CD? *shrug* Originally this CD had another track called "Listen to the Rain" which featured a choir of some sort. Unfortunately it got cut from the final release. -Listen To The Rain, like Goodnight, is not per-se an Evanescence song. It is more like an Amy Lee song, even though both are put into Evanescence discographies, so I suppose there they shall remain. Furthermore, it is not on the BMI Website, but that is obvious (neither is Goodnight). -According to the EvReference, the word "listen" is repeating in order to symbolize rain falling. Heh, I'd like to know where they came up with that (even though I like this EvRumor). SOURCE-Annoying lyric sites like to say Listen to the Rain is instrumental: About "Listen To The Rain", you're totaly right...
This song is considered an instrumental because, though there are lyrics, the voice of the vocalist, Amy Lee of course, isn't there. Did you get it? It's only based on a chorus and that's why is considered an instrumental track... -Amy Lee on "Listen to the Rain" from the MTV show When I Was 17: By my senior year, I talked to my choir teacher and told her that I've written a choir piece and that I would love to show it to her. And I gave her the sheet music and she said she loved it and that I should direct it. I really loved that! [. . .] I was definitely more nervous directing than I would have been if I was just one person in the choir, but we had a few months to rehearse the song. So every day when we go to choir class we'd work on that one, and my teacher, who's so supportive and so cool to me, and really pushed me to do even more than what I was asked to do, because I wasn't asking to step up in front and direct the choir, but she wanted me to. We started out just performing the song that I wrote for the choir at the choir performance, and everybody liked it so much that they asked us to do it at graduation too. So that was really, really special. SOURCE 2:53 - 4:06THANKS to DoubleA for the lyrics and the videos are from FallenEvArmy!

I just found out Amy herself posted the lyrics of this song on EvBoard. That's really cool.

This is one of my very favourite Evanescence songs, except I usually don't list it as it's kind of not an Ev song at all. I'd nearly forgotten how peaceful it makes me feel, and I love how positive the message is. <3

This song still remains a mystery to me, I have read these posts above and Wikipedia and wherever else, but still seems confusing. "Eternal" is length 7:22, (is there any other track time)? Every article says "Listen To The Rain" instrumental was cut from the release, then what is the rain playing in "Eternal", strange if its just part of the song? Is there a version without the rain and piano part just before "Demise"? Any thoughts at all? The choir version is not instrumental either, instrumental would be no singing at all. The last thing I noticed is the choir version is exactly the same length in time as the rain and piano part of Eternal.

Demise was after Listen to the Rain - I can't remember if these two were to be merged or if Demise was a stand alone track. The small bit of rain at the very beginning of this song was the part of Eternal that was merged to LTTR. Some call LTTR an instrumental because it doesn't have a lead vocal. I don't agree with his classification but I'm just one person.

I don't agree with his classification but I'm just one person. I don't know if they're right - technically the lead is the choir! :-) It's slightly different if the song has lead vocals and backing choral vocals (like in a lot of Nightwish instrumentals) Pre-production they were probably different tracks (as in written at different times). During production someone probably thought "hey let's segue these tracks to find a place for LTTR". Then LTTR was removed, but maybe the producers left it in because it sounded cool? Experimental albums are brilliant to interpret

Maybe LTTR is what it is, where does the extra track come from and where does the name Demise come from?

Maybe LTTR is what it is, where does the extra track come from and where does the name Demise come from? That's a good question. I haven't a clue. The word Demise literally means "death", "end", "termination", so it could have been a working title for the final track? Apparently it was a working title listed on the "pre-release" track listing (??!) The earliest reference titling it "Demise" that's written down is actually on the back of the 2004 Origin bootleg (the one that gave Understanding the title "Wash It All Away"). Can someone else help clarify this?

If all versions have it then maybe it means nothing?
