That's a good question. I haven't a clue. The word Demise literally means "death", "end", "termination", so it could have been a working title for the final track? Apparently it was a working title listed on the "pre-release" track listing (??!) The earliest reference titling it "Demise" that's written down is actually on the back of the 2004 Origin bootleg (the one that gave Understanding the title "Wash It All Away"). Can someone else help clarify this? "Demise" was named by Brad when he was ripping the tracks onto his computer (or whatever). It was the "yang" to Origin (the song)'s "yin," if you will. It was never a per-se "official" title since it was, from what I understand, always just going to be at the end of Eternal - whether LLTR was on there or not. I talk about it a bit in the "Demise" topic if you want to see quotes from my notes. That being said, I do think we knew about the song "Demise" before the 2004 bootleg, since "Demise" was leaked on those early EV Yahoo groups with all the other demos. The bootleggers just saw that/saw the discographies and labeled their tracklistings accordingly. Also, the beeping at the end of Away From Me leading into Eternal, has anyone heard a version without that beeping sound? If all versions have it then maybe it means nothing? Away From Me NOT having beeps only happens on bootlegs. Most bootlegs do not have AFM and Eternal next to each other (i.e. one following the other), so they purposefully mute/lower the ending beeps on AFM so the song makes sense (i.e. if Eternal is not following AFM, then there is no point to having the ending beeps on AFM). I am thinking particulary of Le Nouveau Gothique, which has a version of AFM on there that has lowered/muted beeps. |
