^It can also happen just generally as women age. Mine got wider during puberty (but my waist got smaller too). And my hips kind of reshaped again once I entered my twenties and I'm childfree and haven't gained much weight at all - about 5 pounds since 18. Also sometimes I've noticed that music news sites pick the most unflattering close-up pictures where she's mid high-note and noticeably focusing, bending forward or to the side awkwardly. *shrugs* But I think she looks great. As far as the Graspop pics that were brought up, sometimes the fabric of her shirt sticks out awkwardly since it's tucked in higher up on her waist and creates the illusion that it's her body that's causing it, but it's not. It's the fabric, which is why it isn't noticeable in every pictures; it depends on how she's moving.

Amy is probably around 60 kg for 1m60 which is not fat, but not thin either. According to BMI, she falls into the normal category. With a few more kg, she would be borderline overweight. But who cares.

Exactly. She's neither thin, nor fat. She's normal. And beautiful regardless of her weight. She was on my most beautiful women list even in the times when I had declared 40-something kg the perfect weight. This says something. There will always be unflattering photos. You wouldn't be taking 20 selfies each time if they all turned out perfect, right? When you add the constant movement and the strain of a live performance, it becomes more difficult to take a flattering shot. If I were a photographer, I wouldn't release the bad shots at all because I'd consider them bad for my reputation (if I can't take good shots, I probably don't have the required skills), but not all photographers seem to share my opinion. So we get to see the unflattering shots. Whatever. She's here to share her art with us, not to be a model forced to fit into specific beauty standards. You either accept it and enjoy her music or find something that suits your superficial needs better.

harridan Nice to hear all this from someone who has met her just a few months ago on the last tour. I still have some of your photos from M&G with her and I exactly understand what you are talking about. no need to discuss further. just taking a quick look at her Instagram posts and shots from latest tours and other m&gs clears up everything. Nice point.

You know too much fat put a strain on joints and can cause obstruction in arteries and veins. Amy is far from this, but please don't encourage obesity. It is an indicator of health.

BMI is flawed because it doesn't know if the weight is from fat or muscle

Is this the age old "Amy Lee is fat" discussion? (which is my favourite Youtube troll by the way ) In all seriousness though, from my straight guy's perspective she's f'kin gorgeous. She's curvy and beautiful. Also, without meaning to get too critical, I don't really understand why people have to see "fat" or "heavy" as an insult, as if that's the most important aspect about a person. I think this is probably the biggest reason why the 'Amy Lee is fat' troll was always so successful when people used it. Ev fans would instantly turn around and defend her saying stuff like "no she's really pretty" or "I bet you're fatter" (which is probably a decent guess, because she's not actually that fat as people have pointed out). But the biggest thing for me is I don't really get why it's even a big deal. Does being fat somehow make you less pretty? I mean it may to some people, but that's not how I'm wired. And why do people care anyway? Being called 'fat' or 'heavy' is hardly the worst insult you could call someone. Hey, you could accuse them of being a genuinely horrible or boring person. I'd much rather be fat and interesting than skinny and dull (I realise I fit nicely into the latter category, but hey ).

I was just making an observation. I find it interesting she allowed herself be photoshopped for the Speak to Me single cover. We all know that isn't her actual facial structure. Isn't that everything she's against?

Well I suppose that’s different than, say, making her look 20 pounds lighter.

I think if she watched her weight and hit the gym a few times a week, she could have that circa-2003 body back and it would help sales for the new 2018 album.

Isn't that everything she's against? That's a fair point (I can't remember how different this looks to the video, but I'll take your word for it that this is photoshopped). I'm wondering if (assuming she had a say in whether or not it was photoshopped - which seems likely seeing as it's the Single cover), because she's essentially representing a character in this video (and thus in the single cover) she wanted it to look a certain way. Say for example she was taking a home photo of her with her son, I doubt there'd be any photoshop since she's presenting a genuine image of family life. Whereas with this, she's an alternative take on the dead mother's ghost in a sense. Perhaps she wanted the ex-pianist to appear a certain way, or to appear more 'ghost-like' by being thinner and less fleshy? Just some thoughts from an artistic perspective.

I highly doubt Amy is that concerned with losing weight as she is staying healthy, being a good mom, and focusing on her art. Hopefully it'll inspire others to do the same.
