What You Want was well-promoted, but for some reason, it didn't perform nearly as well as their previous lead singles with neither sales nor radio airplay. However, the band did have a five-year hiatus. So considering the circumstances, do you think that What You Want underperformed as a single?

I was not an Evanescence fan until January of 2012, so I have no idea. I have NEVER heard it on the radio, so maybe.

Yes. But what could we expect from a label that as soon it sees new bands to support totally forgets about supporting Ev?

There was a lot of crap on the radio when it came out. Ev couldn't compete even if Wind-Dump was doing better. I didn't hear a hint of Ev on radio but I no longer listen to radio so I don't know.

On the BB chart, it's between a flop and an underperformance since it peaked at #68
On Pop it was definitely a flop, I don't think Pop radio played it. On Rock it wasn't a smash hit like BMTL, GU or CMWYS but it was a hit nonetheless (peaking at #7 on Mainstream, #11 on Rock and #14 on Alternative).
You'd think with half a decade of absence, Wind Up or their management would have scheduled a tv/radio promo tour for the band, but nope. 1 performance of the song during its first week and a second performance on the day the album was released.

Under the circumstances, I think it did pretty damn well. I think it's silly for anyone to have really expected Ev to make it on pop radio again, so rock was really their only chance with Ev3. Their last album had come out 5 years prior and their last big radio hit was "CMWYS". I think it's pretty rare for a band to be out of the public eye for that long and come back to any attention, unless you're a very established act. So when you think about all of that, the song did great.
Now if only Wind-Up hadn't made terrible, messy single choices after that, I truly believe Ev would've continued to have rock radio success last era.

On the BB chart, it's between a flop and an underperformance since it peaked at #68 Also notable is the fact that WYW was on this chart for 1 week only, which is a huge decline from CMWYS (22 weeks).

I don't think it underperformed since it has more views on YouTube than TOD videos, but concerning radio I haven't heard it even once - so I don't know what to make out of it

This is common sense.

Sweet Sacrifice - uploaded in 2009 - 16,5k views My Heart Is Broken - uploaded in 2012 - 18k views
I don't think it's obvious they have less views, on Last.fm WYW has also more listeners than Sweet Sacrifice. WYW is not underperformed - this is my opinion that's all.

WYW has even more than MHIB, I just wanted to show that Ev3 singles didn't underperform at all. comment about VALID things - I know well what this thread is about.

Regardless, TOD videos views shouldn't be compared to the Ev3 videos becuase TOD videos were uploaded way after they were released, while the Ev3 videos were uploaded as soon as they were released. Also, YouTube views aren't the only factors in how well a single performs. Just compare Lithium's chart positions to WYW's.
