Someone posted in the youtube comments that Amy has only lip-synched once in her life and she doesn't feel good about it. Does anyone know what performance that was? I really want to see it.

It wasn't lip synching. It was the venue. I commented earlier on the performance and the venue diverted the Live feed and used the album version in the play back or something like that.

There is autotune in the Nissan Live Sets. It's very very audible. I don't know why there is, but I'm sure that the production had something to do with it. It's not lip synching. Anyway, I'm sure there's pitch correction on Fallen. I haven't heard traces of it in TOD or Ev3, or in their live album for that matter.

As for autotune in general, I have never heard any of it on any live concert videos. According to Dave Fortman (producer/mix engineer for Fallen & TOD) autotune was used all over Fallen and not at all on TOD, he said something about Amy 'singing her heart out' on TOD which is pretty cool. I think I can hear some on a few bits on Evanescence but very minimally. And the best part is she sounds so much better on TOD than Fallen... Seriously, the freakin' vocals-only track of Lithium may very well be the best her voice has ever sounded across all the albums. What parts of Evanescence do you hear it on? I can't really think of any off the top of my head, but I never pay much attention to it... Perhaps the backing vocals in Swimming Home. Totally agreed!!! I hear it in Disappear, a fair bit in Say You Will, the chorus after the bridge in My Heart Is Broken, and probably a few other places that I can't remember. Then again, Amy said it did take a whole month to do all of the vocals, so perhaps I'm just hearing things

I remember hearing that the show told them right before they went on stage that they had to lip synch, and there was nothing the band could do about it. Amy wouldn't hold that final note in "Bring meee toooo liiiIIIIIIiiifffeeeeee" that long unless she had to... lol.

I remember either Amy or Ben or possibly both of them talking about this performance on Evboard. They said they didn't know it would be a fake performance until right before going on, being weirded out by the dancing girls, and just how embarrassing the whole thing was. They also said the guitars weren't even plugged in.

There was an interview with the entire band about that performance too. I couldn't find it and I spent a good bit of an hour looking for it. I remember one of them saying the guitars weren't plugged in and I also remember John joking that he sounded just like Paul. But I can't remember anything Amy said.

And the clapping, Ben's rhythmic hoodie-banging, Amy looking bored out of her mind, etc.... This performance is not entertaining, heh.

This performance is not entertaining, heh. I'll never understand why the people in charge of the show thought it would be a good idea. Did they honestly think no one would notice that this "live" performance sounds exactly like the recording? Completely silly. And btw, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing "Boobies quoted you..." In my notifications.

Even if there is autotune on these bits it's such a tiny amount which is really cool. However, if autotune is used really well it can sound so natural, so I guess we'll never really know unless we asked the producer/mix engineer. Semi related- I can't work out if I can hear some softly throughout the Anywhere But Home live tracks or not, opinion?

Just so you guys are clear about the difference between Pitch Correction and Auto Tune
Basically pitch correction is used in the program Melodyne which the best program for pitch correction because it can analyse pitch and allow you to alter single notes. This is what they use in studios and i'm sure they would have used it on ev albums.. The producers job in the studio is to get a good performance out of the artist, sound and accuracy and everything else should take a back seat to the performance. So i am not surprised that they would have had to use a bit of pitch correction just so each note hits the sweet spot. This is not a bad thing everyone who has access to this very expensive program.
Auto tune on the other hand is ... well you've seen all those videos where they have auto tuned the audio of some one talking in a video to music. aka the Auto tune remix. Auto tune Analyses the pitch(Less accurately than Melodyne) and tries to make it fit into the already present chordal/ pitch material and it auto tunes... lol ... the pitch to fit chords or melody of the music

I read on the old EvThreads, or maybe it was EvBoard, that Yahoo! made Amy use a pitch correction or auto-tunned mic for this performance. There was also that Spain performance of BMTL where the venue turned off the live feed and used the album version while they were performing. fartheraway: Can you provide the link to that Dave Fortman interview? The interview was actually part of a segment in ProAudio Review magazine called 'Single Slice' about Call Me When You're Sober, I couldn't find the original link, only quoted text; "f Lee’s vocals sound pure and naked, it’s because they are —the current trend of rampant pitch correction was simply skipped. "The album is just her singing her ass off,” he [Fortman] boasts. “The tracks were amazing. There was no need to tune —going in on graph mode, re-drawing lines, and all that. I think we proved with this single that, with a great singer tearing it up, you don’t need to do that just because you can.”

I can't hear it, which means they've done a superb job at hiding it or they didn't use it at all. Usually, the way I detect pitch correction and/or autotune is when the voice sounds very digital and if there's a tiny "break", but I didn't hear any in the examples you provided. Have you heard Paramore's new single "Still Into You"? There's a part on that track (0:34) to be exact, on the word "can't" where you can really REALLY hear it if you pay close attention, but I don't hear any thing of that sort in Ev's music. The only time I thought I heard that was on Fallen (My Immortal Band Version - 3:21 - 3:22 on the word "wipe"), but I'm not even sure that it is what I think it is.

That was the one where they were interviewed by some magician type guy and he did a trick or two, right? Here it is www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=8lH83oJpZ9E#t=192s
