Bring Me To Life! Mostly due to nostalgia, though. It was the first time I'd ever heard the band and I instantly fell in love with them. It took me quite a while to get into the other 2 lead singles in comparison

Call Me When You're Sober, ya'll.
BMTL will always be their most well known and successful single, but to put it plainly: It's not Evanescence. Executive meddling be damned, an Evanescence song that is true to itself and the band will always be better than a marketing ploy in the form of shitty pseudo-rap. That said, BMTL has really found new life recently with its beautiful new acoustic performances and the absence of shitty rap altogether... But CMWYS did the beautiful acoustic performance thing first! Heh...
What You Want is also better than BMTL, just as far as songwriting goes, but I sometimes get the feeling that having a hit single was the whole reason they wrote WYW, so it comes short of CMWYS for me. I still greatly enjoy listening to WYW though, but CMWYS found the balance between accessibility and honest songwriting.
I have a sneaking suspicion as to what the origins of the idea for this thread were (I could literally not think of an easier way to phrase that sentence, haha....)

The Bliss Mix of BMTL is soooooo much better than the one on Fallen, in my opinion. It is amazing how much of a difference it makes by simply taking out McCoy's part.
If we are talking about the Fallen version of BMTL, then for me it is a close race between WYW and CMWYS, with WYW barely ahead on most days. But if we are talking Bliss Mix of BMTL, then all three are very close and it depends on what I'm in the mood for. I suppose I'll give WYW a little love in this poll since I was just singing along with the new album in my car last night, haha.

They were all such great first singles. Very smart choices from an otherwise very dumb label. "BMTL" was something so new and different for the general public, while still having elements of familiarity in the nu-metal-influenced guitars and male rapping. We can hate on Wind-Up all we want for forcing Ev to do something they were against, but goddamn if it didn't work. I think it actually was a pretty smart move on the label's part to throw the rapping in there. I'm not sure it would have been as successful without that familiar and masculine element, because otherwise, it is a very beautiful and quite feminine song, and I'm not sure the general public would have been ready to embrace that alone. It perfectly paved the way for a heavy rock hit in "GU" and a pop hit in "MI". "CMWYS" was a great choice because it was a very different sound for Ev that I don't think anyone saw coming. It had soul, it had sass. The lyrical content wasn't the usual "sad" stuff from Ev, which I think the public were done with at the time. The lyrics could appeal to a broader audience. And I think the more pop and soul flavors of this song were easier to digest for the masses than any other song on the album. I think WU was right to try to capitalize on the crossover success of "CMWYS" with "Lithium", and I think it was the only song that could've done it. Unfortunately, it didn't work. WU were right to shift focus towards rock radio, but "SS" was not a good choice; I think "WOTW" would've been the safest bet. "WYW" was a very smart choice to test the waters of Ev's comeback. It was just heavy enough for rock radio, but fun and poppy enough to possibly crossover to pop radio. It did fantastic on rock radio, especially considering how long their break was and how most people had probably forgotten about them. It didn't make it to pop radio and that was a perfect indication that they should focus their marketing efforts on rock audiences. Unfortunately for Ev, Wind-Up was too stupid to see this, kept pushing for pop success, and ultimately failed to make an impact anywhere. Mess. Sorry for the essay, I'm bored! But to answer the question, I choose "BMTL". It's the song that put them on the map. It's a classic both amongst fans and the general public (I still pretty frequently hear it on the radio). And I personally think it's the best song of the 3. It's a perfect balance of delicate beauty and heavy rock; it has dark, beautiful lyrics; Amy's vocals are both powerful and ethereal; it's got the soft, tinkering piano and epic strings...it's everything that made me fall in love with this band in the first place!

It was not from me looking at the CMWYS thread and seeing you go on and on about how great this song is as a lead single...not at allI think my favorite lead single from them would have to be What You Want...it was really the first lead single that I got to experience as a real EV fan and I was so excited and not disappointed with it(although now it is one of my least favorite off the album but that's another discussion in itself)

Meh, i'm not good at picking except i'm VERY sure, but i guess i will vote for CMWYS.
BMTL is great and made a lot for the band, the signle that made more for the band in terms of commercial success, but i'm tired of it. If we were talking about the acoustic version, especially the one done in L&L, it would be my number one, but since that's not the case i guess it will have to share the second place with WYW.
WYW was a song that never had my heart in the first place. IDK why exactly, but it sounds very messy, i like separate elements of it, but as a whole it doesn't interest me that much, catchy and all but it doesn't do much for me. And i don't like the lyrics either, i don't find them genuine, but i don't know why. Maybe it is becase it's got a bunch of cliches. I love Amy's voice, the drums and piano melody, though.
CMWYS. Not super impressed by this song, but i'll always have a placed in my heart for it, because it was the song that truly got me into Ev, the first Ev singe that made me get into the band in such an obsessed way. No single from Fallen did that for me, but once TOD came out i really fell in love. And of course the rest of TOD was better than CMWYS, so as soon as i sat down to really listen to the album, i was hooked. And CMWYS's video is one of my favorite, right after GE's and Lithium's (in that order).
So: 1)CMWYS, 2)WYW and BMTL (i can't pick between the two, i guess i enjoy them and dislike them at the same level).

Call Me When You're Sober is my favorite lead single.
This is my favorite song from the TOD album because of its heavy guitar riffs and the vocals of Amy is strong and powerful at the same time. You can feel the emotion of the song here. I also love the acoustic version of this song!
Bring Me to Life will be the 2nd to my favorite.
Powerful and meaningful song from the Fallen album. Putting a rap in the bridge of the song makes this song a little bit poppish. Also, the rap symbolizes the commercialism in the single itself because Wind Up put the rap part on it. Without the rap, the song sounds hard rock itself.
What You Want is the last one.
What You Want symbolizes as the anthem for the band's comeback after 5 years. Guitar riffs and drum would make this song a heavy and hard rock. Powered by the vocals of Amy, this song caught the attention of the world. This song sounds a little bit of poppish to me because of commercialism that the label wants to restore the glory of Fallen through this song and the synths that you can heard in this song.

I voted for Bring Me to Life but it's really not a fair fight, considering that was the song that introduced me to modern rock music. I'll always have an extremely soft spot for that song. Around its release I really didn't like Call Me When You're Sober and still think it's possibly the weakest track on The Open Door. With that said, I've come around on it significantly in the ensuing years and actually like it now, though still not nearly as most of the other songs on the album. What You Want was the perfect comeback song and the moment that released was one of the most exciting I've ever had for anything related to pop culture, probably goes up there with a few of my favorite shows' series finales and a couple of James Bond premieres

I'm picking Call Me When You're Sober. I think it was the best song that could 'genre-bend' out of the three, having both poppy elements and rockier elements. Also it's just so empowering, and not in the same way that WYW is. Not to mention the video is really cool, has Amy being incredibly hot (or gorgeous if you prefer), and it got me back into the band in a really big way after I got tired of Fallen's repetitiveness.

I like What You Want the most! Maybe it's because I appreciate those positive, optimistic and encouraging songs :-)
