There are songs I will never learn to love. Bad fan! Or just an honest one. But there were also songs I didn't like at the beginning and embraced when the right time came. I never really liked Cloud Nine until this winter when I suddenly found myself listening to it on repeat. I didn't like Made of Stone either until I heard it live. Give Unto Me took a while too (read: about 9 years). Maybe someday I will learn to like the rest of the songs on the black list, who knows.

Fallen:
Haunted (I was about 10 when I heard Fallen and the beginning of this song always scared me.)
My Immortal (This is my least favorite version of MI and always will be, but it's not as bad as I thought.)
Tourniquet (I still prefer it live, though)
My Last Breath
Taking Over Me
TOD:
Pretty much every song at first except CMWYS. I thought Lithium and YS were dreadfully boring and long. The second song I started to like was Lacrymosa. I was OBSESSED with the epic choir and the ending is just the best. That song was on repeat for a very long time. XD Now I adore TOD.
Ev3:
End of the Dream (shame on me this song is one of Ev's best songs ever!)
Say You Will (oh man, I hated this song! But now I love love love it! I how fun and sassy it is!)
Disappear (I like it now, but they should've added that guitar solo in. Would've made it 100 times better or kept it a slow song. It was so gorgeous slow! The album version is sorta boring to me.)
Erase This (It's alright now. Still kinda boring.)

I hated Swimming Home when it first came out, it was just too...placid, I guess, especially compared with the rest of the album. I now consider it a rest from the album, ha, as the softness of it is a nice break from the constant guitars and belting. It's now one of my top favorites from Ev3.

There were a few that needed a little time to grow on me.
Fallen: Everybody's Fool and Whisper (I guess my body just wasn't ready for the epicness of Whisper) The Open Door: Lose Control, Snow White Queen Evanescence: Say You Will, Erase This (though I'm still not a huge fan of Erase This)
Other than the one I mentioned, I love them all now. <3

Out of curiosity, what are these other songs on your black list? I certainly don't think there's anything wrong with not loving every song a band puts out. In fact, that hardly even seems possible! I'm pretty sure there's a couple songs by all my favorite artists that I don't really care for.

There are songs that I just DO NOT like but I appreciate them: Like October, Secret Door (which I'm starting to like more), My Immortal (1998), Where Will You Go (1998), Imaginary (1998), Everybody's Fool, and My Immortal ( Origin and Fallen).

Hmm...
Fallen: Pretty much every song. I just wasn't all that interested in listening to the whole cd when I just liked one or two songs. Then, one by one, I gave each of them a chance and eventually started listening to them all.
TOD -Weight of the World: Hated it for so long and now it's one of my favorites. -Sweet Sacrifice: Just thought it was incredibly dull... I listen to it occasionally now. -CMWYS: I had to get over my teenage angst before I could completely enjoy this song. Now I love it.
EV3: The whole album except Erase This and Swimming Home with some more than others. -The Other Side: Hated it at first, but I enjoy singing it a lot more than listening to it, so I've grown to love the song in a way. -Made of Stone: Hated it. Lately I'm really enjoying it. -The Change: This one is the opposite. I used to love it... Now I hate it. Quite a lot, actually.. It's probably my least favorite after Sick.
Ah, how could I forget Oceans. That song is the one that disappointed me the most when I first heard the album. Like with most songs I initially dislike, I had to open my mind a little to what was good about Oceans instead of letting my biases ruin the song for me. Now I like it a lot. I still have some problems with the chorus... But by listening to it from a different perspective I can enjoy it a lot more. Instead of hearing Amy shouting maniacally, I picture her trying to say these words to someone all the way on the other side of the ocean... Which is why she has to be so loud, heh.

Well, I was afraid to give my reasons for not liking Understanding. I think it's kinda dull lyrically. Too many "can't"s.
Evanescence EP: So Close (still don't like), Understanding Sound Asleep EP: None Mystary EP: None Origin: Origin, Whisper, Field Of Innocence, Even In Death Misc: All Pre-Fallen versions of Haunted and Everybody's Fool Fallen: Taking Over Me The Open Door: Lacrymosa, Like You, Your Star, The Only One Evanescence: The Other Side, Say You Will, Lost In Paradise (I can't listen to LIP anymore. It destroys my mood because of what I associate the song with)

Off the top of my head: Never go back, cloud nine, erase this, end of the dream (because those never ending notes in the choruses were hard to swallow at first), secret door (because of the way the chorus was done), oceans(unnecessarely high-pitched).

My Last Breath and End of the Dream. Every one loves them but I could never get into them.

Actually, Even In Death took me a long time. It wasn't until i downloaded the Live In Cologne that I liked the live versions. The demo is taking a while, but I'm slowly liking it.

This is very interesting. When Ev3 came out I wasn't afraid that I will not like it because I know that many Ev songs needed its time to fully grow in me and gather the right meaning in my life. It's very weird and kinda lovely because I never thought about any other artist that way I love to read all your stuff here, I almost thought that I'm alone. So.. Evanescence EP: So Close - At first I didn't know what would be ever so special on this one. But then I spent so much time throwing rocks at someone's window. I remember how I tried to play this song on my friend's guitar during one long, lonely summer sunset at ruins of the old castle. It left an imprint that time cannot erase. Understanding - As Open The Door already stated, there's so many "can't"s, yeah. There's a simple pattern that still repeats, which bothered me. BUT then there happened a live version of Understanding. I LOVE it. Origin:Even in Death - it's very weird and complicated at the first listen. Now it's one of my favorites, right after Lies. I learnt to love it during my summer job in caves where I tried to sing many Ev songs whenever I was alone Fallen:Haunted - For a long time I considered it as one of the weaker links but it was just because it didn't have a personal meaning for me yet. Well, I was 16 when Fallen came out. Later I started to obsess over photography, history, architecture and mainly the urban exploration of abandoned buildings. There was a really cool story behind Haunted about a lost little girl trapped in the abandoned mansion, I believe that Ben wrote it on EvBoard many years ago. I love it. Whisper - Once it was only a cool, epic outro for my favorite album but nothing more. But then I saw how amazingly they can do it live. And many times later I saw it live myself. The pale hands of Amy in the dark, the thrilled crowd trying to reach her fingers. I pissed myself with excitement. Twice! The Open Door:Weight of the World - I don't know how could I not like it before, it's maybe just because I got to harder music gradually and it took some years for me to fully embrace it. As in many other cases, I love the lyrics even if I'm not really excited with the music so I learnt to love it step by step. Now it's one of my favorites on TOD, along with SWQ and LY (but both of them were absolute loves at first listen). Your Star - This is hard. I don't know why I never paid it enough attention before. I remember that I felt in love with this one kinda lately, it happened somewhere around 2009 in that weird gap between TOD and Ev3 when no one knew what will be next. I still feel like I'm sitting alone in the window during the warm night in Lisbon with stars above me when I listen to YS. Oh and it's SO great live. Evanescence:Made of Stone - My first meeting with Ev3 intro happened when the album leaked. It was a cold gloomy morning when I heard it for the first time. It was that low quality, half-muted leak with deliberately corrupted sound. I knew it would be different and maybe hard to understand the new stuff, and for a long time I skipped this one because I didn't like the intro. Wow, it's my biggest favorite now.The bridge and the lyric meaning and the drama, you know. I love it. Secret Door - I wasn't very excited with Swimming Home too but there I felt the connection to the story of previous track so I had no problem there. But SD was something completely different. It needed a long time to get that this is really the best way how to end the whole album. My mind is full of fireplace pictures when I'm thinking about it. The song itself is about understanding, embracing, loving and handling things during the creative process. To take your experience and make something beautiful. Disappear - The freaking best example of the whole pile of letters here. I didn't like it when the album came out. Yes, I had the pre-order of the Deluxe edition so it was no "intruder" for me, I just didn't like the music. These lyrics are absolute gem though. I feel really connected to it for a long time, like "Amy were singing this to me" but at the same time it's sad because during all the Ev3 era there almost nothing changed and I'm still trapped in myself though I have these amyzing "drugs" and great friends in this short life. Guess it all needs more time. And Disappear live is one of the absolutely best things that happened in Ev3 era!!! I really really hope that one day I will see it live on my own because... it's so great and strong and awesome. Long story short: yeah, this is normal and I love this process of gaining my own sense in Ev songs.

Also, Understanding. Everyone talks about how it's so deep but it's really boring and too slow. The only version I could ever really come to enjoy is the acoustic version.

Also, Understanding. Everyone talks about how it's so deep but it's really boring and too slow. The only version I could ever really come to enjoy is the acoustic version. "Understanding" will always hold a special place in my heart, but I can totally understand people not liking it. As Ben said, it's kind of a "ridiculous Goth anthem". It just still holds a lot of magic and nostalgia for me. I think that's more the reason it's remained one of my favorites all this time, rather than the actual music itself.

Your life sounds magical. I want to go listen to Ev songs in castles and caves. Thank you! Never thought I'd feel it this way! "Magical..." I felt too inconsistent and uncertain recently that I almost forgot these good old times... I need to nurture my creativity in special places. Then I feel better.
