Used, The-Utah-based emocore band. Released self-titled debut in June 2002.
Bert McCracken, lead singer, went on an offensive on Evanescence after they couldn't play the KROQ (Los Angeles) Weenie Roast in the summer of 2003 because of a Ben Moody illness. Evanescence pulled out of the Weenie Roast and the Used took Evanescence's place.
Originally Posted by an MTV article:

I thought that The Used did a SUPPORT for Evanescence on their November UK tour last year... how does this make any sense? (i have constant problems with writing SCENCE instead of SENSE. lol.)

^The quoted information was probably from 2003/2004. Their views may have changed. Or at least that McCracken guy didn't like Ev.

Well the way he was talking about them on stage sounded like they may have, but he say one night he said they were an "okay" band, but I think he was doing that more to wind the crowd up, it was a really touch crowd to play to because not many were there for them and people didn't really like them and just stood there and didn't really get into the music at all

I remember reading that interview with The Used more than once and feeling so happy that Ev are much more famous than them now AA, you are both walking encyclopedias. DarkFlare is just a bit shier and not so well known.

There's this interview at the golden gods awards where Dee Snider (around 1:39) tells Amy and Lzzy that he interviewed Heart once and asked them what they thought about Amy and Ann said she was blown away by her, which is super cool because Heart is one of those legendary bands that have been in the industry for decades and decades and they've inspired a bunch of bands and fans from various generations. Also because Ann has a damn great voice. I've been looking for that interview with Dee and Heart on google, but couldn't find it.

Compared to Epica they are more popular rock. Epica is very heavy and has growling. So she's not wrong there in how she talked about genre. Also, Ev is commercial. They are promoted through radio, and have a history of being promoted through MTV and other music business. Being "commercial" is not bad or wrong, just a way to describe a person or band. And here's another definition of the term ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contemporary_commercial_music ). You misunderstood my point. If someone tells me "commercial pop-rock" I immediately think of Avril Lavigne or Kelly Clarkson and the like, so I don't see Ev fitting into the "commercial pop-rock" norms just because they're not heavy or have some catchy songs. Maybe it's just me. ;D

Hm.
I've always wondered what Fiona Apple thinks of Ev... She probably doesn't like them... But I secretly suspect that Fiona doesn't even listen to music... I sometimes think that when she isn't in public she crawls into a cocoon made of her own hair and goes into a deep trance. Then she wakes up seven years later with a fully formed album in her hands and no idea how it got there.

Pop changes with what is popular, whereas bands like Evanescence evolve within themselves. So while Ev might be commercial, I wouldn't class them as pop at all. Of course, there are always people debating genres. Hell, there are still people who consider Evanescence to be a goth band.

AA, you are both walking encyclopedias. DarkFlare is just a bit shier and not so well known. Yeah, people just don't read enough! Because when I first met DarkFlare89's posts, it was in the Discography section, and I was overwhelmed by the amount of information I found there... It's awesome to read it, especially the facts about the older songs. [/OT]

There was this tweet that Terry retweeted which said Deftones said they like What You Want or something. Anyone got a vid of that?
