Tupac, Rihanna named most popular artists amongst UK prisoners Published Wednesday, Jan 2 2013, 7:42am EST By Lewis Corner Tupac and Rihanna are among the most popular music artists in British prisons. The late rapper topped a list of the most requested acts in 2012 on National Prison Radio, which broadcasts to 84,000 inmates across the UK. Vybz Kartel placed second, K Koke third, Rihanna fourth and Drake fifth. Rihanna's inclusion makes her the only female artist to appear in the Top 20. Eminem, Metallica, UB40, Evanescence and Pink Floyd are among the other acts who made the Top 20 most requested artists on National Prison Radio. "Listening to something heavy can be a healthy release from prison life," an NPR radio host told The Mirror. The Top 20 most requested artists on National Prison Radio are as follows: 1. Tupac 2. I wouldn't say their music taste lead them to prison so I guess it just means that anyone can relate to good music and prisoners either express their emotions through it or use it as a remedy.

Couldn't agree more with Marina. Look up Evanescence's lyrics. They are almost all about freedom or willing to survive and get by. I doubt they would listen to Ev outside of the jail because it wouldn't suit their mood, but in 3 walls and a grid, makes total sense.

Somewhat bizarre - but nice at the same time.
If I'm banged up for whatever reason - at least they'll be playing decent music on the radio!!!!!!
