Below, an exclusive interview Amy Lee Brasil conducted with Lzzy Hale, Halestorm frontwoman who’s currently on tour with Evanescence. She talks about her band, Amy Lee and going to Brazil. First of all, thank you so much for this interview. Tell us more about your band, Halestorm.
Thank you! Thank you so much for taking the time… I am sorry if it takes a while to answer, as I am a busy woman. Halestorm started when I was 13 years old and my brother (the drummer, AREJAY) was 10. We met Joe and Josh a few years later and it just clicked. We are very lucky to be doing what we love today with the people that we love.
What’s the difficulty you face in being part of a rock band in a world where pop music is at its most dominant time?
I am of a different mindset when it comes to pop music. I mean, that terminology has been warped. “pop” used to mean “popular” so it included bands like AC/DC, or Van Halen or Alice Cooper, even Metallica. But the segregation of genres has screwed everything up, so pop has become a dirty word. I actually love “songs” for songs sake. Doesn’t matter what genre. If it moves me, it’s good in my book.
My dear friend is dying to know: What’s your favorite color?
My favorite 4 colors are in this order:
1. Purple
2. White
3. Black
4. Gold
What was it like to sing with Amy, who’s had a huge success with her band when the whole rock musical scene at that time was composed by men?
I am in love with Amy. She is the coolest chick I’ve met on the road, and it is such an honor, that she likes my song “Break In” enough to sing it with me every night on this tour. She blew some significant doors open for most girls my age… and together we will represent!
What do you like the most about touring?
I love touring because I get to do what I love with the people I love. And I love traveling and meeting cool people who come to shows.
How did you and Amy decide what song to do the duet on? And would you be interested in singing a duet with her on an Evanescence song?
It was Amy’s idea. We knew we wanted to do something together, but couldn’t decide on what. She told me she loved Break In, and asked if she could join me on stage to sing, of course I said YES. She learned all of my backing parts, and wrote new parts to add to the song!
Out of curiosity, will you ever play “Beautiful With You” live?
Yes! We definitely will! We are currently working on a special live version.
What legacy do you believe that Amy and Evanescence are showing for the new bands emerging and do you feel you are doing the same thing?
Amy opened up a whole new door for gals in rock, like me, to burst through! Before Evanescence, a girl had not been played on rock radio for 15 years. In many ways, she gave, and still gives hope to female musicians and female rock fans alike, she also ACTUALLY sings and plays live, which is now a rarity, even in the rock community. Halestorm is the same way. We don’t use tracks or trickery in our live show. What you see/hear is what you get. It’s raw and real.
Last one! What are the odds for Halestorm playing in South America? Send a message to your brazilian fans.
We definitely are planning on coming to South America! Probably within the next year. Our Brazilian fans are the best! They love us sight-unseen. Before we even get a chance to play, they are already superfans! cannot wait to come to BRASIL! It has been a dream of mine since I was a kid! |

I like the way she communicates with the fans like equals and it's really cool how well both bands get on while touring together. I hope they keep in touch after the tour. Maybe someday we'll see an officially recorded duet, who knows. |

What an awesome interview!
When I heard the live version of "Break In", I had just listened to the album version not long beforehand. So I was like "KAJSHDFLKASJHDF AMY LEARNED THE BACKING PARTS LIKE A CHAMP!" (not that I ever doubted her, lol). But yeah. It was like a double fangasm. :3

I wish Halestorm could've supported Ev on their Australian tour! I vote for an Ev + Halestorm world tour if they ask me because sometimes we have to listen to really annoying bands to get to Evanescence and if they were touring with Halestorm all the time it would be a double win. |

It's so great that they're able to play together. Halestorm seems like a much better fit than some of the other female rockers she's played with (not that I have anything against some bands, I would just MUCH RATHER see Halestorm). I wish they would both come back to Northern California! It's been almost a year since I saw Ev live, and I WOULD LOVE to see Halestorm open for them!
