Agreed about the Miley Cyrus discussion and glad Amy agreed while trying to be the respectful. Miley is a very talented musician but she's suddenly a rock star and the female representation of rock music. Miley has every right to become a full blown rockstar as she's got the talent but she's never once mentioned Lzzy Hale, Amy Lee, Taylor Momsen, or any of the artists who were a part of this wave before her and it made think.
Amy did the same thing for several years! I'm an huge Ev fan, I've watched at least 75% of their interviews. If Nightwish, Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil or even Flyleaf (where she pretended she wasn't familiar with them and Lecompt called her out) were brought up, she'd pretend she didn't know them that well, or simply deflect. She did end up touring with Flyleaf and Halestorm later in her career but when it came to bands that were overseas, I didn't why she wouldn't want to get to know these powerful female fronted rock musicians overseas, and I never understood why it took SO long for her to finally start to meet them. Within Temptation was a huge deal, so many fans wanted to see this collaboration and it's great! But even during the interviews/podcasts where she spoke about "Use My Voice", it was always, "We used Lzzy, Taylor, Deena Jakoub, and just some of my best friends". She never once mentioned Sharon. What about the band that Evanescence was always referred to? Lacuna Coil. She's never uttered a word about them. Lacuna Coil broke through the US markets with Karmacode. It was almost strange not to see her face on any rock-oriented magazine during that entire year and yet they've never met even though Lzzy Hale and Cristina Scabbia introduced them at the 2012 Revolver Golden Gods Award Show. But Amy never met with the band because Cristina Scabbia has since said, that she's never met her.
I'm not trying to be over-critical of Amy, I love every era of Amy, especially 2021 and onward where I do think she'll finally meet more of these females in rock, maybe this was some marketing strategy to ensure Evanescence remained near the top as a band in active rock, maybe she really never bothered to listen to these amazing bands overseas until the last few years (c'mon!) but I just think about how she's all about how she wants to see females on rock magazines (sans Hottest Chicks of Metal/Rock), but it's already been happening for like 15 years despite being called "female-fronted". We're not past that yet, but these "female fronted rock bands" have already been at it for so long.
I don't like being nitpicky of Amy at all, after all, she's "never lost her crown".
