This is definitely one of my favourites from the new album. So different. I wish there was another track or two that were in the same sort of direction, soundwise.

I loved this track and I do too wish we had had more of these moments throughout the album. This is where I can see the biggest disconnection between Amy's vision and the wanting of including the bands sound. I definitely hope this sound gets explored more, it has so much potential! Also, this is very Björkish and just makes me eager to have a full on album from Amy with some Vespertine vibes.

Eh, I don't necessarily see it as a disconnect between her vision and wanting to include the band's sound - I think that was still what she wanted. I think even she probably wanted a break from all the Synthesis-type of material for a moment and work with Jen and the guys. It's really just an intro, and a damn good one.
This song really feels like it could be part of a film score. It could fit right in with the Ghost in the Shell (2017) score, which is one of my all-time favorites. It's so different and beautiful, and I love how it leads us into Broken Pieces Shine. I think those are my two favorite right now.

I'm kinda confused about the title. Is it two separate titles? Are they interchangeable? Or is it one title with an awkward dash in the middle? Working title that was liked as much as a new title so they both were used?

The first section is called "Artifact" and the second section is called "The Turn". It kinda has a switch up sound wise about half way through so I think that's where they separate. |

Amy explained it that the first part was recorded unprofessionally (on her phone/recorder she uses) and she presented it to Nick what needed to be changed or something. He said nothing because he liked the artifacts in the track. Then I think she said she added some stuff professionally because that's the turn of events or something. It's more of a symbolic thing for her. |

It's more of a symbolic thing for her. I could be wrong but I think she recorded it using garage band or maybe logic on her laptop using the keys on the keyboard as a musical keyboard. I do the same when I make songs. |

It's more of a symbolic thing for her. According to EvRef: The intro was written, programmed and recorded on Amy's laptop by herself in her hotel room on tour in 2019. She initially wanted to rerecord it, but was encouraged by producer Nick Raskulinecz to keep the original recording. The Turn is a collaboration with Scott Kirkland of the Crystal Method. "I thought later I'd change this, but it was just kind of pure, same thing with that intro piece, the Artifact part, that was me all by myself in my hotel room on tour and I kept that entire recording. I made those synth notes with the keyboard typing in a program and I sang into the microphone of my laptop. And I totally intended first to redo it and then when I was talking to Nick at the end of the album, 'I wish we finish this intro'. He was like, 'You know, it's got all those weird stuff in it, all those little artifacts - that's a audio term - just stuff that happens because of the weird microphone and just the whole situation you were in. I don't know, how are you gonna recapture that? How are you gonna recapture that pure moment?' And I thought about it, I listened to him, and I was like, 'You're right, let's just leave it exactly like it is'." |
