Right, but people should definitely be able to voice their opinions and criticize/say what they dislike about the song or album as long as it is not done in an inflammatory way imo. There is nothing wrong with that.

There is nothing wrong with that. Agreed but that doesn't seem to be the case. Song's alright. Performed well, and an awesome way to segue into bringing the band in with the drum stabs - very punk rock! It's performed well - and the production is great. I feel like if this song were on Ev3, I would have been more hyped, though. It's a solid 6.5 outta 10. From what I've seen on Reddit people are loving the new direction, seems like some fans aren't. From the artwork to the lyrics to the song composition etc. This will always be the case, they've already done enough for the fan base, they've already done enough for their previous record label, for once in their careers they need to do what is best for themselves. They don't need to please anyone and this time I don't think they're going to take any crap. So to everyone whose butthurt, seriously get over yourselves, take a back seat and enjoy, whether that's one listen or several - give them a chance. I agree with that, but at the same time I know for a fact that I’m gonna buy the merch and the music...plus it wasn’t really a leak it was released. As far as people critiquing...it’s art it’s subjective. It’s what happens when you put it out in the world. Either roses or darts....It’s sad but it’s always the case. Some people do always have more negative then positive but I’m trying to focus more of the positive posts, which luckily on twitter it’s been well received from what I’ve seen. I really love the direction EV took with this song, and lyrically it’s very Evanescence, even sound wise it is.

I love the drums!
However I don't like how reminiscent of Creep it is. It's messing with my head, everytime I expect her to break into "I'm a creeeeep I'm a weirddooooo". Bit disappointed by the melody here, which is really surprising because Ev has always been very unique in terms of sound for me.
That was just my first listen, so maybe it will grow on me.

Hey man, not sure if you were implying that I'm one of those you think is 'butthurt' - but I'm certainly not. I just gave my honest, but fair opinion. I've loved this band since February 2003, and I always give what they put out an honest listen. I didn't say it was bad. It just doesn't excite me in the way that the lead track from every previous record has.
[Not attacking you], but I also personally feel when people say things such as, "they needed to mature", or "they did this for themselves", it's kinda a big cop-out. It's mental masturbation. These people are still musicians outside of Evanescence. No doubt, they write and record their own music that we never hear - but the fact is, they have shared this with all of us, and we are now partakers regardless of our opinion. Also, I think they sort of did what you're suggesting with Synthesia.
I get that we'll all defend Evanescence to the hilt because we're big fans. But they put this out. If I end up hating this whole album (which is unlikely) - but if I did - I'm still an Evanescence fan. I respect what they've done and are doing, and I immensely respect the fact that the band is even still going when Amy's made it clear in the past that it didn't always have to continue.
I'm a "Hybrid Theory/Meteora guy" too. I love Linkin Park and was also with them from the beginning - and people like me get torn to shreds by other LP fans because we don't thoroughly enjoy the other albums. It's just an honest difference in taste. It doesn't mean I respect them any less.

I've seen people say they think Jen is doing backing vocals but it sounds like Amy to me unless I'm deaf as heck, lol.
Anyways, I love this song. It's so good. It's been stuck in my head all day and I've been humming the melody. It has the childish melancholic sound to it but in a dark way. It's interesting to see they started with a slower song, can't wait to see what the other songs will sound like. I can see myself rocking out to this at a show.

I hear Jen at the beginning, but could be Amy? Sounds different to Amy's voice, but maybe it has some distortion or something.

Wow. Okay. So Amy saying this has TOD vibes...it makes complete sense after a couple listens. I feel like I’m dancing through the past and the present at the same time, and I don’t quite know where I am on each listen. There’s an instrument I can’t quite make out during the second verse that sounds really cool.

I'm happy to hear the higher quality now from the official release! It has some real Lillywhite sessions vibes and I'm really digging it. Like Peter said earlier I could really see some of those early songs from the lost record making it's way in here.
Also for people disappointed in this style they have said that this album will be more wide-reaching so I can see how this could be a foundation for both the heavier and the poppier sides of the band.

I'm not too bothered by the Creep resemblence, I'm used to listening to Muse and thinking about Queen songs, some parts are literally a rip off with a modern twist. Plus, I love Radiohead's creep. I'm worried they could face legal issues though. Let's see what happens, it would be tragic if they had to give money to Radiohead, plus the bad press that those sort of things bring to bands, especially one like Ev that isn't all that respected to begin with and Amy has quite the share of haters.

Wait did we know this? “‘Wasted On You’ wasn’t the song we were planning to release first, but when the whole world went into indefinite lockdown and everything changed, so did the feeling and meaning of what we wanted to say right now. I didn’t write these lyrics about what we’re all now going through, but somehow that’s exactly what they are,” singer Amy Lee said in a statement. www.spin.com/2020/04/evanescence-announce-the-bitter-truth-first-album-in-9-years/

Wow! I'm definitely shocked. I like how it sounds. I think this is the ideal sound Amy always wanted to create since pre-EV3. A combination of rock and heavy layered electronica. Lyrics are different but in a good way and Amy's vocal piercing your soul like always. my only problem here is the idea of listening just one song at a time. I just listened to this and now my whole body and mind burning to go to the next track and dive into this new music deeper but I can't

Ev usually begins with heavier, faster more energetic songs for lead singles. maybe they're waiting for when this is all over and release those songs when they can shoot photos and videos.

I have it on repeat. It has everything really, the super melodic beginning, the electronic sounds, the powerful chorus and bridge and Amy's voice is top notch. IA with you about that bit about them finally doing what they wanted to make before Ev3. I'm glad we finally get to hear the band like this. Will is a beast on drums, best drummer the band has had. Maybe this is what some people don't like about the song, but I actually like that it's catchy and has this poppy feel, the start reminds me of your typical pop ballad by pop divas lol. I love it. I like how the drums kick in in the first chorus, you don't really expect it on first listen, you don't expect the swimming home vibe after the start with voice and piano either, and then the abrupt ending. The grungy guitars are a good addition too, it's outside of Ev's typical formula, I have been wanting to hear something like this from them since I heard those few parts of Perfect Dream and the other songs they were doing with Lillywhite, it would be cool if they worked with him again. I kinda like getting the songs one by one instead of the whole thing at once, it's what a lot of people are doing these days. I'm very into Rosalia lately and she does this all the time, I'm minding my own bussiness, log in to youtube and BOOM, there it is a new song to listen to. I like getting it on small doses, enjoy a song for days or weeks, or months before getting the other one, it is a bit anxiety-inducing, but when you get the song it's like a present that catches you off-guard, I like the feeling. Another of my faves Regina Spektor is also doing this.

Amy's voice and the energy of the band posses you ... her voice singing the lyrics and those familiar backing vocals in the background ... So Amyzing <3
