After listening through this new album, The Bitter Truth, one may wonder, "What did I just listen to and what was the point?" The lyrics are not clearly decipherable in some areas, and even when you can understand them, did they have much meaning for you? If we go through the other albums, three examples of each album that were masterpieces, even though there are more:
Fallen: Haunted, Going Under, Imaginary
The Open Door: Lacrymosa, Snow White Queen, Your Star
Evanescence: Oceans, Never Going Back, Lost in Paradise
Even on Origin there were the amazing Even in Death, Away From Me, Field of Innocence and Imperfection and High Low were superb songs from Synthesis.
Nothing on this new album comes close to these songs I just mentioned above. What do we really have here on The Bitter Truth? One thing Evanescence was famous for were epic bridges. Where did they go? Where are all the amazing bridges into crescendos? This album definitely sounds like a true Evanescence album, but something is missing, what do you think that is?
The lyrics don't seem to really come through to deliver us anything of any real deep meaning. After you finish the album, do you really feel satisfied? Use Your Voice for example, Amy is a singer, she literally built a career from her voice, so who is not allowing her to use her voice? It's like a song making a point where the point did not need to be made. What's the point of this song? Even the ballad, Far From Heaven, a nice song, but doesn't really offer us much meaning for our own lives or really touches the soul like Lost in Paradise, does it? Actually the final 3 songs save the album, but they still seem like mediocre compared to good Evanescence.
Take Cover is clever and like many songs on the album, it rocks, but so what? "Rocking" was never the main reason to be an EV fan. I am having trouble understanding how anyone could see this album as anything other than a decent, mediocre Evanescence album, but the weakest one to date, that leaves very little for the heart and soul, and not a whole lot musically on a technical level to really admire.
So what is it that makes this album so lacking?

I’d love to see evanescence drop a lossless or Dolby atmos version of The Bitter Truth on Apple Music. I’ve been listening to some of my other favourite artists and their lossless releases recently and I just thinking it would make the overall listening experience for TBT so much richer. Agree. They have a high def lossless version of synthesis on there, which is surprising as even the biggest artists at the moment don’t have high def lossless, so hopefully we get at least lossless of TBT Wait what? Lossless version of Synthesis on where? How do I get this? Are these the same as .flac's?

Yep the lossless version is the same as .flacs, it’s CD quality and there’s loads of albums available now in this format. Then there is also high-res lossless which is in short supply, but Synthesis is on there. It’s supposed to be super amazing quality, you need some sort of digital to analogue converter and stereo system or something to play the high-res lossless though, it’s all a bit confusing for me. The specs stated by Apple: A three-minute long song will be approximately: - 6MB with High Quality at 256kbps - 36MB with Lossless at 24-bit/48kHz - 145MB with Hi-Res Lossless at 24-bit/192kHz

I would argue that Part of Me is one of the band's best songs, ever. It's extremely complex musically and ultra satisfying to listen to.

I would say Part of Me is one of the best songs of the album for sure, but one of their best songs? Really? This is on the level of Haunted, Oceans or Snow White Queen for you? Lyrically does it have the same impact on you that Lost in Paradise does? The last two songs are definitely the best songs on the album.

I love this record and most, if not all of the songs, have some kind of deep meaning for me. But that's just me. If they don't have meaning for you, that's you. All of our experiences and responses to this album are going to be different and subjective.

I went through something similar to what Amy went through when she wrote this song, and it totally punches me in the heart when I listen to it. Part of Me as well, actually.

You have to take into account - pandemic aside - that Amy wrote lyrics till the last minute, and Far from Heaven and Part of Me were two of the last songs she wrote/finished. There were songs that already had full instrumentation recorded and Amy had to write lyrics to them due to the pandemic because they spent around one month in the studio back in July 2020. The album is about loss, grief, politics, having a voice, not accepting lies, strength.
Lyrics that are meaningful for me and I take them to a personal level:
For me this is about showing your real you, whether you're a LGBT+ person who is afraid of accepting yourself and showing the real you when you live in a country that is dangerous to be gay, or you're just a 'weirdo'/different (and there's no problem in that):
This is about lies I'm/I've been told. I heard them all before and I know all these words people speak to me mean nothing:
The whole Take Cover lyrics speak to me in a high level, just being angry with people who fool/play with you, and mark your own ground.
I feel that Far from Heaven is far more superior than LiP, with the latter being a bit 'cheesy' to me. I get its lyrical content and it's an apology to Ev fans because of the time off she took between TOD and Ev3, and the line "All the promises I made just to let you down / You believed in me but I'm broken" seems to be about her label rejecting her original vision for Ev3, because she promised an album for 2010 but it failed. Who knows.

I really don’t understand why people get so annoyed when others say they really liked this album, like seriously, chill 🙈
If something has meaning to someone they shouldn’t have to, and don’t have to, explain that to anyone else.
I enjoyed the album for what it is, it’s not my favourite, but I enjoyed it. I would never demand someone explain to me why they love it 😂 each to their own. Love over all ❤️

Who knows. I am judging the album by the finished product. What led to the recording of the album isn't relevant to me. I find these lyrics hard to follow and sometimes hard to decipher what she's saying, which is odd for Evanescence. I have not taken the time to read most of the lyrics yet. So far, none of the songs make much sense to me. I find your interpretations of these lyrics far deeper than the lyrics. I wish you wrote this album. Thanks for taking the time to do this though. Maybe I should read the lyrics to Take Cover. Lost in Paradise is the deepest Evanescence song to date and I wrote a thread about it. Maybe you can find it and comment. It is Amy Lee away from Ev and not wanting to come back, but the memories of fans draw her back in, against her will. What makes that song perfect is when she says the word, "TIL". That's the key to the song. Swimming Home is about dying, which is another super deep song. Far From Heaven is not a bad song, it's pretty good, but I am still not sure about the, "What if I can't see your light anymore". Maybe it will grow on me. Don't you feel there is this dark mystical poetic way of writing that is missing? Think of the lyrics to Holding My Last Breath.

If they don't want to tell me, they don't have to. This is what is called a conversation. Nobody is being forced here against their will to do anything. Nobody is demanding anything from anybody.
