Now that the rock is back with a new tour coming in a matter of weeks! Amy and the band just released a Sweet 16 Limited Edition Fallen vinyl record to commemorate its 16th anniversary, they conquered epic symphony shows with a phenomenal Synthesis album, what should they head towards now?
Should they bring back old Fallen songs we haven't heard in years like Taking Over Me and My Last Breath? I think they have to bring back a rocking Even in Death with Troy ripping that fat solo.
Should they go deep in The Open Door with Snow White Queen and Cloud 9? How about breaking out Away From Me? Will they just do a standard modern show like focus on Ev 3 with some goodies from the previous 2 albums? Will the song, Your Love ever be played again? Should Amy play Speak to Me or even break out a kid's song? Should they play Fallen in it's entirety even though Amy is the only member now from that era? How to approach this re-birth of the band?
Of course, who will be going? I'm in Cali but plan to hit up the PA shows.

I’m actually hoping they arrange Hi-Lo and Imperfection as rock versions for the live shows. It’d be nice to finally see them revamp the set from being Ev3 focused and show some love to Fallen and TOD. I’m personally fine with them not dipping into pre-Falen material. I’m just ready for something different from what I’ve seen 3 or 4 times now. It was a breath of fresh air to hear Everybody’s Fool again and I’m hoping maybe we’ll get Taking Over Me or The Only One or Erase This. I get there are fan favorites and singles they probably won’t stop playing, but, I could really live without Sober, MHIB, The Other Side, etc. this time around.

With all the Fallen Sweet 16 stuff, it'd be a real shame if they didn't revive songs like My Last Breath/Missing/Farther Away/Tourniquet. There's so many great older songs that have not been played in far too long. I'd also like it if a few of the Synthesis songs were left off this time around. (Ex. no MHIB/Lost in Paradise)

Jen did give us some pretty big hints as to what was happening with the setlist. She said the band is playing something they never did live before. Sooo, an older song, perhaps?

Another interesting factor is how different the music was on Fallen and before that album than what came after, if Amy still has the same connection to them. None of the musicians other than Amy, are in the band now that were in the band then. Well actually, I guess we've come to accept different members constantly as part of Evanescence. I mean if you think about it, every album has different members. John LeCompt, Will Boyd and Rocky Gray were not even on Fallen, but were there live. David Hodges wasn't there live. The Open Door LeCompt and Gray and Will Boyd are there, Moody replaced with Terry, but live Will Boyd was not on that tour and replaced with Tim. The 3rd album is the first one with Tim, but LeCompt and Gray are replaced and Terry still remains. Now Troy replaces Terry as lead guitar, Jen replaces Troy as rhythm. Wheeeew! Quite the hodge podge! So its interesting of what songs have the most meaning for the band now.

I missed that! Very cool, I wonder what it could be. And after thinking it over some more...my top few songs that I would LOVE to see live again are: The Only One Missing (Such a powerful song and I wish it was on Synthesis) Farther Away Lose Control Sweet Sacrifice (I know Jen always says she wants to play this) I'll be at the Mohegan Sun show. Anyone else going?

(Ex. no MHIB/Lost in Paradise) I have to say Lost in Paradise is one of their best songs ever written with some of her best lyrics so definitely don't want to see that one go. I find the meaning to be about Amy trying to be a normal human in her life away from Evanescence, but the shadows of her fans won't let her go pulling her back in, and she was in denial that she could put all that behind her, as Evanesence and the songs of pain, are where her heart is. "Til she has nothing left" to give. Beautiful!

Considering they will be doing metal and rock festivals I expect them to go completely rock. I highly doubt that we will get a Hi-Lo rock version. I want Take Cover to be performed again or If You don't mind. I would die to have Farther Away on the setlist.
And some new material too.

I wonder if they could ever rework the male vocals from Lies and make it so Jen and Amy could sing together? That'd be so cool.

Unfortunately, it looks like my main question didn't come across very well, probably because of how I asked it. What I was mainly asking is "Where does Evanescence go from here?" Not what songs you hope they play. There is no album in the works, no key writer is in the band anymore except Amy, there is no album to tour now, and they just finished a symphonic tour covering their 3 albums. So now what? I think they are asking themselves the same question. Some songs will be relevant to the band now and others won't.

Someone said earlier that they will hit the studio in fall. During the 2017 summer tour, Amy said that she and Tim had already a stack of songs. Considering it will be their first original release without Wind-Up, I have zero idea how it's gonna sound. Probably a mix between her latest projects and a more rock sound. The situation is completely new here so I don't think anyone can accurately predict what's gonna happen exactly. I guess she will give some interviews during the upcoming tour so I hope that we will eventually get some info!

Well here is my answer to the question and my prediction: I think this is an interesting time for the band. There is no official writing session or album planned, sure they may have ideas but nothing official yet, and they have no idea how a new album will end up. I think it's safe to assume all or at least most of Terry's guitar leads were written by him and Troy is still playing his parts, so nobody knows exactly what a new album will end up sounding like with a new lead guitarist. The band, other than Amy, had to sit down in the background for the last 2 years or whatever it was of the Synthesis tour so they will be antsy to rock out.
My guess is this new tour will be the band playing a setlist of the songs they find the most fun to play without any constraints. They are not bound by album or contract now and have total freedom to play whatever they want.
My prediction is they will stay pretty rock focused for this tour coming up:
Even in Death played the old school way with Troy ripping the fat solo. Terry told me to my face once, "Ewwww I hate that song!" so I guess it's fair game now, assuming nobody else in the band hates it. I love it!
Taking Over Me since in 2009, there were only 3 shows, 2 of them had this song played and the only member in the band now that wasn't there then is Jen. So I think good chance for this one.
Snow White Queen- They played this 13 times, (I just looked it up, I'm not some genius) and for some reason never again since 2007. If it's good enough to play 13 times it's good enough to break out again.
Haunted- Arguably the best Evanescence song ever and they know this works live every time!
I think one of their metal songs, Take Cover, Further Away, If You Don't mind, none of these songs I like. I think they are monotonous and uninteresting, especially Further Away. Total fast forward song. But that's just me. These 3 songs are like a reminder of how bad music in the 90s was. But I bet one of these will get played. Hopefully If You Don't Mind because it's the best of the 3. Ok I expect to get attacked on this.
Missing- I think this may be the piano break out song they do as there was a benefit show in 2013 where Amy Lee played this with Paula Cole. If she broke it out in 2013, why not now?
I hope the shows end with Swimming Home, as this song about death and dying, in my opinion is the best way to close a show, "Nothing can hold me" lights out!
I think Away From Me is a a song that can get updated and reworked to totally fit their rock/orchestral/electronic sound they've been moving towards and hopefully one day they will play it. But probably won't be this year.
So whachu whachu think?
