When I read Mike's name my heart stopped. Normally they would have named Chester as he was the face of the band. But he did not survive.
I need some time.
It's still hasn't quite healed yet.

Thanks so much for posting the scans. I feel bad that it sounds like Amy is tired of this tour (Completely understandable). I wonder how the other band members feel. That and the mention about Synthesis not selling well...Idk bad vibes

Thank you so much for posting! This has to be one of my favorite photoshoots. Amy looks edgy and badass, and that band shot is perfection.

It's a good interview now that I've had time to read it. I'd say with her comments on the future and the commitment of another album I'm guessing somewhere around 2020/21 we'll see something. I am concerned about how little Synthesis has sold (although I wonder if that figure is physical/digital combined or separated) and how financially lopsided they are now. I assume this is more of why they are touring more extensively now - it makes more money. Amy doesn't need to worry about that as much I'm sure, but the rest of the band has to be more active.
I say all of this because I think it would be understandable that the next album could legitimately be their last. By that time and after touring most of their still school age children will be in school and the band will be aging. I don't see Amy wanting to continue to tour a rock band that long. We need to come to terms with that. I've seen a lot of salty comments online about this interview calling Amy selfish and I don't see that. We are a passionate but relatively small fanbase and it seems that the band is seeing diminishing returns. When the band is no longer fiscally viable it's perfectly reasonable to move on.
If Amy wanted to tour constantly they could survive longer but I just don't see that happening. Ever. We need to come to terms with the bands future and be happy that we have gotten what we have. Stop attacking them and blaming them for their own career and creative decisions. Rant over.

That and the mention about Synthesis not selling well...Idk bad vibes I'm probably going to get heat for this, but in a sense, I am not suprised that Synthesis is not selling well. I was a little shocked by the numbers but if you take into account that it had been 6 year since the band had release any type of new album there was a lot of interest lost from the get go. While this is type of album is great for us fans, rehashed songs aren't really going to draw more listener. I feel like such a cynic when I say that but it's true. Especially, when songs like Imaginary and My Immortal have 5-7 previous versions. While I will say, I believe Synthesis has garnered Ev a lot more respect from those in the metal community, this was more a personal thing for Amy and for the long-time fans who've stayed loyal year after year.

Synthesis was never going to sell well. Album sales are steadily decreasing across the board what with the way the music industry is changing, it's also out of the box and orchestral. There's a reason why pop music consistently tops charts whereas filmscores and orchestral works don't - pop/rock is accessible and easier to sell to a greater range of people; ironically, if you please the metal community then you're actually doing something wrong from a business standpoint (unless you're a pioneer like Maiden or Priest). On the plus side, the way they've attracted niche classical music enthusiasts, trip-hop fans and, somewhat surprisingly metalheads with this tour will open up opportunities in the future. Touring is the only viable option for more underground genres (classical music sells even less and all professional classical musicians earn their pay performing). It does mean that if Ev chooses to continue then they will have to alter their dynamic to survive. Having spoken to them all near the end of the tour, I could tell the mood was pretty low, even if they didn't want to admit it, so I don't think endless touring like so many other heavier bands would suit. I think something more like Tool would be more Ev's style, where they all have other money earners on the side. Not suggesting Amy sets up a vineyard haha (although I would definitely buy that wine), but studio work and other artistic outlets could be the way and they may have to accept that Ev is no longer profitable and has become purely a passion project.

I'm thinking, if the band makes a full rock album again, that might be good for the mood in the band overall. To me, it seems like this was mainly Amy's thing (synthesis), and the rest of the band is in it for her mostly, not because it's what they would like to do most. I'm not sure though if that's what Amy wants to do though (the rock record thing), but you never know with her. I don't agree with people saying that she's getting too old for touring (unless she would think so herself). Lots of older people still go on tour, it's more that she never seemed to like extensive touring in the first place. After a few months of touring, we always get interviews with her saying she's sick of it. As others have said, touring is the way to earn money (with any underground band). Their past two shows here in NL were sold out in a few hours!! (which really surprises me, I never meet people here who like EV!! Where ARE they coming from? Everyone I know is always hating on Amy (saying she can't sing or whatever - and most of the people saying that never even saw them live, they just replicate what they heard others say) and Ev (they're either called too mainstream or too goth, and NOBODY knows anything after BMTL and My Immortal) (yup, end of mini-rant) I also love the photo's for this shoot!! They look so badass

Yeah, I have no doubt that a traditional album will be much more profitable for them. For touring, I honestly think that the way they did it here in 2016 would work best from now on- shorter 2-3 month tours with not as long breaks in between. I remember at the end of that tour in November Amy was saying she wished it didn't have to end, so they would probably feel little to no burnout. Or maybe I just think this because it's what I would prefer

dutchevfan A lot of metalheads in particular are/were closet fans. The amount of people I speak to at metal gigs who ask me my favourite band and when I reply with Ev their reaction goes from shock to silent approval is pretty eye-opening. You'll probably find that most people who claim to hate them were fans during Fallen and a lot of people who stay silent are fans, but are less prepared to show that off like you and I (I almost wear it as a hipsterish "I like something you all find 'uncool' badge of honour by this point. But the majority of people, even metalheads seeks some kind of approval from their peers).

I'm not worried about the next traditional album since I know Amy and other band members are kinda already working on it and it's just a matter of time after ending summer tour and having enough rest to see them in studio. What matters imo is that Amy has always insisted on its happening and more importantly the fact that "Evanescence is active"

princeofpersia, in NYC, probably. It depends on where you buy it and what brand.
