There is so much to say, wow. Buckle up guys.
Ok so, the venue opened a bit late than what was indicated in the last email sent by Ticketmaster. By the way, props to them for giving the schedule of the night and cues for parking.
So I get in, I was really close to the doors when they opened which was really clever even though unintentional on my part: I got to the merch booth pretty fast. I bought two t-shirts. There was already a line-up but very few people had entered so far. So tips for anybody who wants to have a choice for the merch: get close to the doors before they open.
After this I went to my sit. In the back, there is a slight slope, so I could see well enough. Then, the orchestra starts, a bit late. People were still coming in though so it was kinda distracting. At some point, a dude shouted "Conductor's a hottie" (it's a woman). We all laughed and she turned around with a smile. The orchestra played Sally Song, Lacrymosa, a Mozart song, Moonlight Sonata and an another song I didn't recognize but sounded beautiful. They played for around 20 minutes. I think we didn't get as much songs as we were supposed to.
Then, the intermission. I thought about buying a program, but I took too long to decide and the show was almost starting so I didn't go lol
The orchestra, the band then Amy gets on stage and after this it's one hour (and more) of pure absolute magnificience. Amy's performance is near perfection. She has a lot of control. I don't hear any strain. There are some instruments that I feel are lost in the sound, so I'm grateful we have a recorded version of Synthesis. There is some guitar on My Heart is Broken that I'm sure are not on the record. I think they put a bit more guitar than what they recorded. Will is absolutely smashing his electronic drums. Maybe too much at the beginning of Secret Door but I've always appreciated the delicate original version. Maybe if the drums were a bit more hushed à la Massive Attack it would have worked better for me. Dave Eggar was rocking out so much, it was funny to see a head among the Orchestra headbanging alone. Amy has so much stage presence (she always had) you just can't help staring, seriously. Every word she says, every move, she puts everything in it and you can
feel it. People were happy to hear Lacrymosa and End of the Dream. Both are AMAZING. Lost in Paradise gave me chills all over. Jen is singing on My heart is broken, the higher notes I think. She did a great job. I am 100% sure Tim played the guitar at some point but I can't remember the song.
During My Immortal, some people got up in the front row and approached the stage. They raised their hands to Amy as if they wanted her to grab them or something. She was uncomfortable. The security came in and kicked them out. The audience was pretty much the downside of the whole experience. People were talking. I had two people next to me talking during Speak To Me (at speaking volume, not hushed or anything). The "Conductor's a hottie" guy said it again two times. It was funny the first time but after it became annoying and borderline disrespectful. People were cheering, and that's fine, but sometimes we would miss the beginning of the next song. I think the show was kinda rushed too. It's funny, I think I felt that at my last Evanescence show in 2011. What do you guys think?
Bring me To Life sounds so much better live, omg. People would actually only pulled out their cellphones during BMTL and My Immortal (?). I don't get that.
Weight of the world was AMAZING and sounded so beautiful. Troy didn't get up though
Some people actually got up to dance during WOTW it was funny. At some point, Amy said "You are by far the most rock-n-roll audience we had on the tour". And that was exactly that. People did not care one bit about how you are supposed to behave in such a venue (and with an orchestra!). Everyone was pretty much attending a rock show with their beers, haha. It kinda threw me off, but oh well.
The thing I really want to talk about is something I think went unnoticed before: the lights. During Imaginary, there were flowers on the ceiling. At the beginning of your star, there was only one light turned on, in a corner that illuminated Amy at the piano like a star would. And during Hi-Lo the spotlight would sometimes focused on Amy, then on the audience. "And I [lights on Amy] gave up on you [lights on us]". I felt like this song was for/about us (I know it's not).
Amy gave little speeches throughout the show. One that stands out is about My Immortal. She said that for the first time in over 15 years, MY means something to her, she can relate to it herself. And that's because of the fans and all the sad stories they told her.
...I don't know what to think of that and it really really bothered me to hear this. People share they experience but sometimes they don't realize the weight these stories have on the artists. Amy said before that fans tend to take her for a therapist of some sort and it's a very uncomfortable position.
After the show was over I went back to the merch booth and bought the book program. I went to the stage door.
Will "Science" Hunt was talking with some women. After they were gone I came up to him and asked about Oceans (haha). So, from what I've understood, when it came to pick the songs for Synthesis, nothing had been made. There was no arrangements, nothing. So the songs we got on the album are the only ones that were "Synthesis-ed". For Weight of The World, they used the strings arrangements that were recorded for TOD and then made the electronic stuffed probably during their break or along the tour I don't know. So, there is no Synthesis version of Oceans. BUT, doesn't mean we won't hear one. I pretty much made it clear that fans were wondering about Oceans and might want to hear. That's all I could do. He signed my program and then went back inside.
And then we waited. We waited. We waited for sooo long. It seemed like hours because it was freezing outside. Some people gave up. Then, finally Tim got out with someone but went straight to the bus. I'm pretty sure the other person was Jen because after she came back. She might have seen us and felt bad for our freezing asses (lol). She said "make that quick!". She took photos, signed her solo album for someone (she was pretty happy about that), signed my programs and went back in the bus.
Troy and Will got out at some point but went straigth to the bus.
I waited some more but I was too cold so I left. I didn't get the chance to see Amy, but it was really too cold. I'm very disappointed but you can't always get what you want.
And that's all folks.
No actually it's not, I taped the whole thing on my phone (except the Orchestra) So we have a bootleg. Quality might not be great though.
