JohnnyScott Just to clarify. Double/triple/quad posting is against the forum rules. We understand that it happens (I do it a lot myself by mistake), but please don't turn this into an argument. Final warning.>>>Rules<<<Let's get back on topic. So I've heard that this next album is likely to be "completely different" <--- I feel like Amy may have said this, but I don't know where, anybody know the original source (unless I'm imagining things )? What do we think this means? Heavier, more raw and unprocessed, more stripped down? Leaves a lot of potential for something unexpected and it'll no doubt change as the writing process goes on. What do we think? (:

What do we think? (: I seem to recall Amy saying this as well. I think it was when they were doing interviews at the beginning of the era of Synthesis and the interviewers were asking her about future albums. I think it was in the context of if the future albums will be more orchestral or if they will stay true to the Evanescence rock sound and Amy said something about there will be an a more Evanescence album after Synthesis that will be completely different. I took it along the lines of it being completely different from Synthesis. But then again, who knows? lol. I'll have to see if I can find the interview I'm thinking of. I don't think it was the "I have plans" (AOL Build interview) but I think it was the one where her, Tim (eh-hem, I mean Jim XD) and Jen-Jen were on the blow up couch thing. *scratchy chin emoji*

I really wanted to hear the finalized version of perfect dream but I do not know if she can release this material in its original form I believe she can follow something industrial

What do you mean by that? Because I have this feeling that Evanescence could very well go the NIN way and be effing awesome.

I would love to hear that old Steve material, but in it's original form, maybe released as b-sides. In the other hand I'm so ready to hear something totally new from them, start over. The band is better than ever in my opinion, I love all the members, Jen is a great addition, they've already explored the more orchestral part of the band, Jen learned to play a VERY cool new instrument that could fit Evanescence's music just great, everyone reworked their parts on tour, they could come up with something really cool if they take the last few years of experience, they've come to know each other pretty well before entering the studio. I hope this time they're able to put out what they really want. Amy probably has a lot of inspiration to write from with her motherhood, Synthesis tour, her brother. Speaking of her brother, I just watched that live video of "I'll never be ready" and I felt my chest stabbed when her voice broke. Then she followed with a joke, she's so strong, I love her. Can't imagine how hard it was for her to just go on tour as if nothing happened. I just wanted to hug her.

I think about this video A LOT. I feel like of all the little snippets of "Broken Record" songs we have, this one could work with the full band involved. It has such a dark, whimsical, Tim Burton on super acid vibe to it. The song creates such a colorful, ambient atmosphere, and I feel like it perfectly encapsulates the vibe of the band. Actually, it totally reminds me of a completely grown-up "Even in Death". Most likely it won't see the light of day, but I can dream.

Is she going to finalize the songs of broken records just like she had promised? She never promised this. This is what she said on Facebook when she released her cover of Baby Did A Bad, Bad Thing: I, as well as everyone else, would totally love to hear "Broken Record", especially what became of 1:38am -if anything- and Perfect Dream. Also, do you guys remember that video Amy posted (I think initially to IG) before Synthesis of her playing the piano with some type of atmospheric loop playing in the background. I really want to find out what that is and find out what became of that! I've listened to that over and over and over again!

Well, it's safe to bump this thread. The writing process has started! I'm excited to see where they take the album. I hope we get to finally hear Perfect Dream, get a studio version of Take Cover... and I really am anxious to know the albums theme.

Looks like they got a lot of work done in Canada. I’m very excited. Jen answered some fan questions on Instagram tonight and looks excited as well, regarding the writing process. They seem to be taking a break on that for now (according to Jen) but I’m sure they will use much of August to do some individual work, maybe they will send ideas back and forth?

Not sure if I'm in the minority here, but I look at Synthesis as non-cannon (in the same vein as a remix or compilation album) even though people (and Wikipedia) see it as the fourth album. Feels weird trying to call the upcoming record the 5th...
Anyway, weird nitpick aside, I'd always thought it would be really cool if Ev had a really mellow album [of new tracks]. I know there are a lot of mellow moments on the albums, but I can't pick out one record that kind of feels like their "Jar of Flies" (for any of you Alice in Chains fans). I mean, I want heavy - but I think Evanescence is one of the few bands left that could pull off a uniquely mellow, but also interesting record with class and ingenuity.

I personally like it when an album has variety, but an overarching theme.

Agreed. It'll be the 4th album in my opinion as well. Synthesis is more like a remix / side project / compilation album in Ev's discography. Not so independent to call it 'Evanescence's 4th official studio album' since it has just 2 new songs and the rest is the remixes of songs from their previous albums.

Yeah, Amy referred to Synthesis as a project and not an album.
As for this threat topic, I'm hoping some synth rock with the same energy/style as "Take Cover" (Hoping it will be released in the new album) and, of course, songs from the broken record. It it clear that they will be reworked to fit the sound the band will approach with this new album, but I'd love to hear them in their original form. I do hope Amy experiments more with the band as they're not on a label anymore, so they don't have follow any rules. Also, Amy has the creative freedom she has ever wanted.
