I think SYW was debuted on the stage for the festival dates.

I love that Say You Will is part of the live shows now and that Tim got lead on it but I really feel that Amy might need to change the note for the word "say" (E5?) - it didn't really come out well imho. And maybe a Dissapear-esq guitar break would help with the bridge, you could tell she was out of breath for it when it started. Still really cool though!

I'm afraid that the guys (and Jen) might have a hard time relating to them and to the songs as a whole. I have no doubt they understand that Evanescence is a sound and an atmosphere above all and that they could probably write something that works well with the Evanescenceverse (see what I did there?). In the interview, the guys were teasing Amy about Secret Door being about unicorns, but then Troy concluded by saying "We like your songs". You know, I feel like in order to keep them in the band (because I f*cking love this lineup), collaboration on lyrics might be the next step. I don't know if amy would be up for it though. From what I understand she has been the one to write the lyrics since Ben left and Terry was just co-writing the music. Just a thought. I'm sorry it was so long and off topic. Maybe it's me always comparing evanescence to others bands and wanting them to be something they're not? Idk This would be a really interesting idea, and you're right, the goal with any long standing band where it's more than just a job should be for everyone to feel an integral part in it and to contribute creatively in any way they wish. My only thought is that (I don't think this would be such a big issue for Amy, but I know it is still an issue based on her comments about My Immortal), but I know for a fact that I dislike singing other people's lyrics. Even if I get on really well with my bandmates and we've written some lyrics that I really like, the music's great and it's just generally a really good song, I still don't 'feel' the lyrics in the same way because they're not 100% coming from my own heart. Sounds cheesy, but it's true. I tend to find that as long as I've written the majority of what I'm personally playing or singing, then I'm happy. It's different for everyone of course, but that's how I'd personally react to that situation. What could work, however, is actually having some of the other guys singing some of the songs, sort of Fleetwood Mac style. Say for instance, Jen came up with some lyrics that she really wanted to sing, Amy came up with some cool synths/piano for it, and Troy, Will and Tim came up with some bass, guitar, drums you could have a really interesting dynamic to their overall style where Amy isn't the centre of attention all of the time. This would probably be pretty controversial in the fanbase at large, but it would certainly mix up the feel of their songs whilst keeping everyone creatively stimulated.

Huh, I never expected them to play this song live. I've never really seen any interest in it from fans either, so it's kind of a weird choice. It's actually one of my least favorite Ev songs.

In the previous page's video it looks like two camera men are clearly recording the show. *prays*

The fact that it's one of your least favorites might at least partially explain why you don't see any interest in it from others- a confirmation bias, perhaps. The Say You Will thread has a pretty good bit of support. It's not my favorite Evanescence song, but it has great energy for a live venue. I'd wager Jen played a role in adding it to the setlist. Either way, it only seems fair that the people providing entertainment include some of their favorites as well regardless of fan interest. I'm surprised it's taken this long to play it live. I'm actually shocked that End of the Dream is the one song from that album that hasn't been played live by this point.

Tim was on the guitar. I looked on the Evanescence Reference and it said Tim wrote the guitar part. On the video you can clearly see he is playing the riff at the beginning. Yeah you're right. I knew that and even a few weeks ago I saw these tweets: but I really didn't expect he play it on stage one day! Dani's tweet did say he was practicing for a show in Mexico (not related to ev) where he will be lead guitar player. Though, I thought that sounded like SYW but when I saw "not for ev" in her post I pushed the possibility from my mind. Tim also plays piano and can play some synth's. Rarkphoenix: Dude...I was watching some MTV interview about Ev3 and it made me realize that now that Amy can do her own solo stuff, it would be great if the guys could contribute to the lyrics. I like Amy's writing (albeit it's a bit corny sometimes) but I'm afraid that the guys (and Jen) might have a hard time relating to them and to the songs as a whole. I have no doubt they understand that Evanescence is a sound and an atmosphere above all and that they could probably write something that works well with the Evanescenceverse (see what I did there?). I just made a new thread because I feel bad about going off topic here, and I believe the video might prompt some discussions. It's in "Press Lounge".
