How disrespectful!! What was the point of all that? Probably some dumb ass kids trying to be "cool"...

Yay people. It's depressing how few people have a genuine respect for beautiful artwork and the past. It almost seems worse to me that there was evidently no specific motivation for the vandalism other than a few people who were bored one day and thought: "You know what would be fun? Desecrating a cemetery".

A group of dumb kids did something like this to my town's cemetery too. I agree Rarkphoenix - I'm not seeing much motivation other than having a random stupid idea born from boredom. People really need to get hobbies. Like making art rather than destroying it. Or reading. Or blogging. Or sports. Or video games. -_-

Yes, it's very sad. Before reading the whole article, I thought that maybe it was a "get back" kind of thing on the Basham family - maybe something like a disgruntled friend or acquaintance that felt wronged by someone of Basham descent. Then I read the whole article. Yes, it wasn't something that have motivation other than boredom.

Some people just have no respect for other people's property.

So it was a revenge thing? People nowadays. I'm not sure. That's what I thought it was at first when I read the first part of the article stating that it was on three of the Basham family statues. Then I read the rest of the article and saw that other plots were vandalized, so that quelled my initial though. It could have been a revenge thing on the Basham family and the rest of the vandalism was an act to throw off any investigation... But I'm not sure. I only know what was in that article.

If the statues were close together then it was probably just a coincidence that it was of the same family. Sometimes family members are spread apart across cemetaries (or across the world, for that matter) but sometmes they're right next to each other.

I don't know about US but in Portugal sculpture carving is an art soon to be dead. There are many beautiful cemeteries but sadly the artists' willing to carve sculptures and such are dropping in numbers, so soon enough cemeteries will be just long fields of (he)artless boredom.
