My mother does not like Evanescence. She hates Going Under (says Amy sounds flat) and she hates My Immortal (says Amy sounds whiny), and those two are polar opposites of each other. She says Whisper is "not too bad". What are other good songs for her, that don't have the "issues" that GU and MI have? By the way, I don't think she likes long, high notes, so I don't think TOO is good either. Please help!!

Well, I suppose the problem here is that Amy has lots of long high notes. XD Maybe try Tourniquet. If she likes electronic influences, maybe Even in Death?

I'm not sure she would be very comfortable with Tourniquet, but who knows? She might not mind it. I will attempt to get her to listen to those songs. Thanks!

While I think it's great you want to share what you love with your Mom you cannot force someone to like the same music you do. People have different tastes in music and it just simply may not be her style. With parents it can be especially hard since they grew up listening to the music of their generation and it usually greatly differs from what their kids are into. You can try and get her to listen, just don't be disappointed if it doesn't work. My own mother thinks Amy has a pretty voice, but it's really not her favorite style of music. Try picking an Evanescence song that sounds as close to what your mother likes to listen to anyway.

I am wondering if your mom is listening to the same Going Under as I listen to because Amy in no way sounds flat... but whatever I guess.
I would recommend something like Secret Door or Swimming Home

Swimming Home is definitely a good shout because it's less 'belty' and more restrained.
But yeah, it's difficult to get people to like something if they're not feeling it (even Ev). That said, I tend to find most people are like "Your favourite band is that whiny 'emo' band from the early 2000s. Are you an eternal teenage girl at heart?" then I get them to listen to a few CDs and they suddenly realise why I like 'em. Great music is pretty timeless and anyone with an open mind can usually find something from it, even if it doesn't resonate with them in the same way.

That's something that should happen naturally. When I first started listening to Evanescence, I accidentally completely freaked my mum out. One day I was sitting in the living room, sound turned up to 11, and Taking Over Me had just started when mum entered the room. The moment of joy at the sound of the piano intro was very short-lived because she was standing right in front of one of the speakers when the band kicked in and almost had a heart attack. Needless to say, I didn't try to convince her how awesome that band was. I just kept taking my daily dose of Evanescence and at some point she started enjoying it and joining me while I was listening to them.
I'm not sure exactly when she became a fan but one Christmas she asked for an Evanescence t-shirt as a gift (I happily obliged) and she's had IYDM as a ringtone for years now without getting tired of hearing it everyday. She also talks to strangers about the band and convinces parents that their kids aren't in fact into satanism just because they like Evanescence xD I don't know how she does it. I never randomly meet Evanescence fans in the street! For example, she and dad went to watch a marathon last weekend and talked to a boy and a girl standing near them. The girl happened to be a huge Evanescence fan and they just discussed the band for a while. Apparently my dad has a copy of my photo with the band on his phone so he showed it to the girl as a proof that they aren't some old wackos not knowing what they're talking about xD
