This is one of my top favourite Ev songs and I feel it's incredibly underrated. I wish Amy would perform this sometime, it would be absolutely beautiful.
Also, I always felt a little weird about the second lyric - "I am nothing more than to see you there." Is that the actual correct lyric, I know that is what it sounds like but what would that even mean?

Some years ago, I heard this song at the mall and kinda freaked out, I was like, 'OMG! It's "Before the Dawn"!'

I love Before the Dawn so much. It sort of reminds me of Swimming Home's cousin in a way. Or counter part. The lyrics are beautiful and I adore the music to it. I know it probably won't happen but I'd love for her/Ev to re-record this if they ever do an acoustic album.

Notice that this version has a blip on "after" at around (0:13). On the Le Nouveau Gothique bootleg, they took BTD and edited out the bleep, so that it seamlessly flows (Before the Dawn (No Beep), just like what EvBoard did with Whisper (2001-2002 Demo) in 2003 and it's bleep. Maybe this is what happened with Exodus?). On the Origin Re-Release bootleg, their Before the Dawn went a step further and not only fixed the bleep, but also added in a fade intro (Before the Dawn (Faded Intro)). As a result demos which might not be HQ (Lies (Post-Origin Demo)) or too HQ (Even In Death) can be tampered with for whatever reason the bootleggers want (Lies (It Was All A Lie) and Even In Death (Rough Mix) respectively). Note that both the No Beep and Faded Intro have a 3:14 duration rather than 3:17, cutting out those extra three seconds of silence at the end of Before the Dawn. -EvLore seems to think that Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet (specifically the 1996 movie version featuring Leonardo di Caprio and Claire Danes) was inspiration for this song. This is more due to people assuming based on it's lyrical content ("Anywhere" seems to be a more sure-fire thing, people say that this song may have been influenced. The EvCommunity seems more unsure, since we don't know much about this song.) -This is David's favourite demo and would have been on Fallen but it was too different: What song do you wish made it onto Fallen besides Breathe No More, Farther Away, and Missing?
there aren't many more songs that we even considered. there is a song called "before the dawn" that i love, but it didn't really fit the idea of the record. SOURCE-On David's Trading Yesterday forums, he apparently claimed he was going to re-release Before the Dawn (he was kidding apparently, although I would have loved to hear it): Um oh yeah, this is an Evanescence thread...umm, I think "Before the Dawn" should have been on Fallen...or released somehow. Or maybe, as David jokingly said on the TY O-board, TY should just re-record it for their new album..haha THANKS to DoubleA for the lyrics and the videos are from FallenEvArmy! |

Love this song! So magical! I first listened to Before the dawn during a Greek tv series in 2004. That was too weird and unexpected though.

This is definitely one of my favourite Evanescence songs. That last chorus is just to die for, the harmonies are so... ugh. It's nearly enough to make me wet. I really hope that they release a B-Sides and Rarities CD someday, but they re-record the songs that they put on there (mainly this one). Amy's voice is more mature now, and occasionally in this song her voice kind of grates on my nerves, but it's brief enough that the rest of the song makes me happy again, but I would love to hear her more mature voice singing this song.

This song. Omg <3 It's one of my favourite songs from Ev's unreleased stuff. The part where she's singing an octave higher or something (I am not great with music terminology, so I'm not sure if she is singing an octave higher xD) but the bit after the bridge, first bothered me when I first heard this song. I like the 'oohing' xD and the 'Eeeeeee' bits <3
