Lyrics:
Lies - Origin VersionThis is the version with Bruce Fitzhugh and Stephanie Pierce. Vocals by Bruse will be in Italics.Ahh ahh ahhh ahh
(repeated, and echoed from 0:00 to 0:36 and guitar from 0:36 to 0:51)Bound at every limb by my shackles of fear
Sealed with lies through so many tears
Lost from within, pursuing the end
I fight for the chance to get lied to againYou'll never be strong enough
You'll never be good enough
You were never conceived in love
You will not rise above
They'll never see
I'll never be
I struggle on and on to feed this hunger
Burning deep inside of me
But through my tears breaks a blinding light
Birthing a dawn to this endless night
Arms outstretched, awaiting the end
An open embrace upon a bleeding treeRest in me and I'll comfort you
I have lived and I died for you
Abide in me and I vow to you
I will never forsake you
They'll never see
I'll never be
I struggle on and on to feed this hunger
Burning deep inside of me
They'll never see
I'll never be
I struggle on and on to feed this hunger
Burning deep inside of me
2:14
Ahh ahhh ahh
(from 2:26 to 2:50)2:51
Rest in me, I'll comfort you
I have lived and died for you
Abide in me, I vow to you

Burning deep inside of me

Bind
(bind) my limbs with fear
(fear)Choke me with tears
(tears)I wonft die for you
You've
(youfve) been here before
(before) And come back for more
(more)But not this time
You'll never be strong enough
You'll never be good enough
You were never conceived in love
You will not rise above
Somebody tell me what made us all believe you
I should have known all along it was all a lie
(Lie, lie)I should have known it was all a lie
Now
(now) I know the truth
(truth)I'm through fearing you
(you)And I am free
You'll never be strong enough
You'll never be good enough
You were never conceived in love
You will not rise above
Somebody tell me what made us all believe you
I should have known it was all a lie
(Lie, lie)I should have known it was all a lie

Some Things To Think About/Debate Over
-On the Origin version, Bruce Fitzhugh of Living Sacrifice sung the male vocals; on the Post-Origin Demo, David sung the male vocals (albiet, they were different lyrics). Stephanie Pierce sung the operatic intro on the Origin version.
-The Post-Origin Demo is NOT, nor ever was, a remix. It probably spread as Lies (Remix) because that is either (1) what it was released as or (2) what spread due to the Discography on Exodus Forums calling it that, even though they also said:
"Lies (remix)" is really a rewrite/re-recording, not a remix.
That doesn't count. First of all, it's not really a remix per se. The Lies (remix) is really a Lies (remake). Apparently, it was done sometime after Origin.
Remixes really only count if they're done by DJs/other artists.
Think about it, if Lies were really a remix, then that means you'd have about 7 different remixes of My Immortal.
The Lies Remix is a misnomer.
According to the band, it's incorrect to call this version a "remix"
The song has had these four qualifiers attached to it since 2003: (Remix), (Remake), (Alternative Version), (Post-Origin Demo). In my notes, it is called (Remake) three times, the earliest being from EvBoard on 04/28/04. The EvReference calls it this. In my notes, it is called (Alternative Version) only once - and I don't think that name stuck at all, since I have yet to see that label on the song. In my notes, it is called (Post-Origin Demo) six times, the earliest being from EvBoard on 04/20/04. EvRoom101 also calls it this. So technically, the earliest post I could find on the song called it the Post-Origin Demo, eight days earlier before it was called a Remake by someone else. Do with that what you will. Also note that Whisper and Imaginary (v1) were also had the label (Post-Origin Demo) (with Lies) before people began calling them Whisper 2002 and Imaginary v1 due to Whisper (Fallen) being released and Imaginary v2 being found.
-On the
In The Shadows bootleg, Lies (Post-Origin Demo) was altered so that it began with a guitar part from the middle of the song, instead of silence. This bootleg-song is known as Lies (It Was All A Lie). It has the same duration as the Post-Origin Demo, however (give or take a second - 3:06 is what I have).
Song:
-When played live in 1999 (Vino's) the song did NOT have the operatic intro; it did however have an extended guitar outro, but that could be Ben rocking out for no reason. Contrary to many EvRumors this song was NOT played live in the 2001 (TNT) set, nor anytime afterwards. This rumor developed because people didn't understand the EvReference's reference to the Lies (Post-Origin Demo):
I doubt 'Lies' was ever played live, BUT pay attention to one detail: in the official evanescence reference on evboard there's written: 'Bruce Fitzhugh of Living Sacrifice provided the male vocals on the Origin version and Stephanie Pierce provided the female backup vocals in the beginning of the Origin version' and then mentioned 'Later remade with Amy and David's vocals'. So remade later? The studio setting has Fitzhugh & Pierce backing vocals. Considering there's no 'Lies' acoustic version and according to the reference it was remade with Amy and David's vocals...Conclusion? It might be performed.
There is a slight chance (EvRumor) that it was played live in 2000, at the Origin release party (in Nov. 2000):
I was looking through very old posts on EvBoard not too long ago and I just noticed something that I thought was interesting. According to a Little Rock local, Evanescence has only performed this song once, which was at the Origin release show at the Little Rock River Market Pavilion on Saturday, November 4, 2000. Also, John LeCompt sung the male vocals when they performed it live rather than Bruce Fitzhugh.
um...i only recall hearing lies once. it was the first time i saw them in november of 2000. john sang bruce's part.
-Lies is one out of the five pre-Fallen songs whose studio version was played on the radio. I am unsure as to WHICH version was played, although one has to assume it was the Origin version, right?
-Amy Lee on Lies:
We had Bruce Fitzhugh, from Living Sacrifice, come in and do a guest vocal on the song called "Lies" (on Origin), which is really cool; he's a friend of ours. We're friends with the band Living Sacrifice. Rocky Gray, our drummer, played guitar for Living Sacrifice. That was when I was in high school. Gosh, that was so long ago. It was all experimental back then.
SOURCE-Josh Spencer from
Stranger Things magazine (when reviewing Origin) had this to say about Lies:
. . . the phenomenal progressive metal song "Lies" where Amy sings cascading scales, Living Sacrifice's Bruce Fitzhugh provides an injection of low end as guest bassist, and male death vocals even pop up.
-Out of all of the Origin songs on the Origin CD (i.e. excluding WWYG, Imaginary, My Immortal, Whisper - which all had previous versions), Lies seems to be the oldest song of the album, since it was played in 1999's Vino live set (and therefore, it was written sometime in early-middle 1999, a full year before Origin came out). It is interesting to note that, although Stephanie does the opening operatic intro on the Origin CD, she does not do this live in 1999. This might be a later edition to the song, as per what we actually hear on Origin in 2000.
