Lyrics:
Even In Death - Origin0:00 - 0:05
Give me a reason to believe that you're gone
I see your shadow so I know they're all wrong
Moonlight on the soft brown earth
It leads me to where you lay
They took you away from me but now I'm taking you home
I will stay forever here with you, my love
The softly spoken words you gave me
Even in death our love goes on
Some say I'm crazy for my love, hmm my love
(my love)But no bonds can hold me from your side, haa my love
They don't know you can't leave me
They don't hear you singing to me
I will stay forever here with you, my love
The softly spoken words you gave me
Even in death our love goes on
And I can't love you anymore than I do, ahhh
2:26 - 3:23
I will stay forever here with you, my love
The softly spoken words you gave me
Even in death our love goes on
And I can't love you anymore than I do
"People die, but real love, is forever."

Some Things To Think About/Debate Over:
-Amy Lee on Even In Death (from Metal Edge magazine):
It's interesting – I don't understand why, but it's more sexual, not necessarily in the lyrical content, but just in the feel of the music for me, the song seems really sexual. I have no good reason for that, but that has always been that song for me, it's cool because that song is kind of different. The song wasn't written from life experience, it was basically just a cool story.
-Ben Moody on Even In Death (from Metal Edge magazine):
That was so long ago...I was like eighteen, and we just found this little loop thing, and we just thought it sounded really cool and crazy and we thought it would be really cool to build a song around it. Then, one day, Amy and I thought about someone who's in a relationship, they lose their loved one, and they kind of flip out, and they go and dig them up, kind of like [Tom Petty's] "Mary Jane's Last Dance" – We kind of thought we'd take that one step further.
-Out of all of the Origin songs that people were assuming were going to be re-made for The Open Door, Even In Death was believed to be the most likely candidate. This was until Amy said that all songs on The Open Door are going to be new.
But, I have a feeling that they will probably record for this new album a cover, probably Zero, because they generaly play it on their concerts, but it wasn't on Anywhere But Home as Thoughtless was, so I think it's a chance... And I feel that Even In Death and Forever Gone Forever You will also be there, because Even In Death is the most probable track from Origin being on their next album and Forever Gone Forever You, because they wanted to put it on Fallen but they didn't do it, so I think John wants that... But this is my chances...
-Even In Death is erroneous placed in the 2001-2002 Demo lists due to it being on the Not For Your Ears bootleg. This should not be done.
2) there was no 2002 demo for 'Even In Death'. The cd only has the Origin version with a few extra seconds of silence at the end of it.
is it different from the other versions? you have to be careful, because people list things wrong. like the popular listing for the 2002 demos is like half of them, with even in death from origin and forgive me from the whisper/sound asleep ep.
I'm 99% sure that "Forgive Me" is the same version that's on Sound Asleep and "Even In Death" is the same as the Origin version.
It is my theory (EvRumor) that Even In Death, Forgive Me, and "the Forbidden Song" (you know the one) were put on the NFYE Bootleg in order to represent the past three eras of Evanescence. EID for Origin (even though it was tweaked a bit as the Rough Mix), FM for the SA EP, and the "Forbidden" (as an outtake) for the EV EP. There is another theory behind this (also EvRumor but an older one) is that EID was possibly going to be remade for Fallen, hence the reason why they played it live in 2003 (I mean, what other reason would THAT SPECIFIC song have out of all the Origin songs to be played? Why not WWYG, which has more history behind it?)
And someone said that there was another recording done for "Even In Death," with a choir in the chorus, during the demo session so they could do it live. That's why they played it live. This is what people have said at other Evanescence boards, of course I don't believe them.
-Even In Death and Understanding are the only two pre-Fallen songs ever to be performed acoustically on the radio; Even In Death is one out of the five pre-Fallen songs whose studio version was played on the radio.
-On the Not For Your Ears bootleg, Even In Death was altered so that certain parts of the song seemed louder (vocals? guitars?) and seemed more "demo-ish". This bootleg-song is known as Even In Death (Rough Mix). It has two seconds more (or two seconds less) as a duration (mine is 4:07)
Even In Death (Rough Mix) “2 seconds longer”
a couple of years ago I was after a song called 'Even In Death 2002', because I read that it was longer (04:12), and I was hoping it had been remastered for Fallen (since the original one was recorded in a closet) and maybe something closer to the version they played live. I finally got a hold of it and found out that it was the same song, it ended at 04:07 and the remaining 5 seconds were silent.
-The quote "People die, but real love lives forever" comes from the movie The Crow:
and the quote "People die, but real love lives forever" that is in the end of Even in Death is from the movie "The Crow"
- In 'Even In Death', the final spoken words say "People die, but real love is forever". That line is from a film called The Crow.
Clip:
The Crow (1993):
Sarah (Rochelle Davis'): If the people we love are stolen from us, the way to have them live on is to never stop loving them. Buildings burn, people die, but real love is forever.
-Even In Death was not aired when the Cologne 2003 concert was shown on German TV, due to the fact that it was NOT on Fallen (and perhaps this would confuse the audiences watching?) That is why on most FULL concert .mpeg/.avi/.wmv versions, EID is not there. Whisper was also cut for different reasons.
Amy says this before the song: "Um, were going to play a much older song now. You may not know it, uh if you like it you can get it on the internet. This is called Even In Death."
-Even In Death was the second song they played in the TNT 2001 concert that has yet to be released. It would be the earliest recording of that song, to date, that we know exists, since this song was not played (since it was not written?) during the 1999 Vino's set. It may have been played during the November 2000 Origin release party, be we do not have a tracklisting for that concert.
-On the Origin booklet, there is a mistake on the Even In Death lyrics ("leaves" instead of "leads"):
Yes, this is true. I have also noticed that in the “Even In Death” lyrics in the booklet. Instead of it says “Moonlight on the soft brown earth It’s leads me to where you lay” it says, “Moonlight on the soft brown earth It leaves me to where you lay.”
-According to the EvReference, the intro was not created by Evanescence themselves:
The intro uses a sample from White Zombie's "Ratfinks, Suicide Tanks and Cannibal Girls", which was released four years prior. The same sample was also used later in Snow White Queen.
SOURCE-Amy Lee on Origin songs (specifically Even In Death):
Besides the songs from Origin that were re-recorded and put on Fallen, we did play “Even in Death” live quite a bit, which was always fun, and I’ve always liked the idea of one day putting out a b-sides and rarities cd – there are some interesting songs that even the fanliest of you fans haven’t heard.
SOURCE-Amy Lee on re-recording Even In Death:
That song was a little bit of storytelling about not wanting to accept the death of your loved one and just going nuts—to the point that I would go out and dig up the grave. We rerecorded it for the box set because the only recording I had was a rough demo from [when I was] a kid. [The album it’s on,] Origin, is made up of very old embarrassing journal pages from middle school. [The new version of] “Even in Death” is still a cool song; it honors the things I loved about the original, but it’s now in a beautiful light that speaks to who I am today. It feels like redemption.
SOURCEI did a really cool new recording of Even In Death, which is (applause). Really excited about it! Which is a different version of a very old song, um and I think it sounds really beautiful and it's cool to revisit something that you wrote when you were, you know, in high school. Like, three in the morning gotta hurry up and go to bed because I got class in the morning. Like, high school. It's cool to revisit it later and see what's cool about it, see what's silly about it. All those things, but just be able to redeem it. Because the recording that I have of it, that I've heard for so long is just like 'guh' to me. To me - it's fine if you like it! That's great if you like it, thank you for liking it! But it's cool to be able to go to it, now that I'm a professional. You know? And hit it the way that I really want to hit it and give it the emotion that I want it to have, that I couldn't before.
