I honestly think that Amy should release any and all music under Evanescence's name. First, because she IS Evanescence, and because people know Evanescence. She is free to do so now that they are independent, so I hope she's smart about it. Technically, Evanescence has already released "Amy Lee" solo stuff under the band's name (Lithium, Like You, Good Enough, Lost in Paradise, etc.), so it really wouldn't be a big deal. If the music is good, people will buy it. She might not shoot up to the top of the charts (or maybe she will), but her music will make a big impact over the long run. Evanescence is still played even after 10 years of starting, so I am confident that they will always do good.

We have no idea on this new label, so for me this is like betting at EuroMillions, it can be a lot, it can be little. But when we change it's usually for the better, so let's hope this label answers those demands from the fans. I don't doubt the band's professionalism at all. The problem lies in the label, that's the key this time.

I agree that Amy IS Evanescence, regardless of how band-oriented the music has become in recent years, but I think that releasing music under Amy's name alone would give her much more freedom when it comes to the actual music. Each Ev album is quite different, but they're all still very similar in their way. As fans, while we know that the next album will be different from the ones we already have, we've still been able to take comfort in the fact that it'll be the same/a similar genre. Evanescence can grow and expand and become something new, but I think it'll always end up being piano-driven rock, first and foremost. Of course, there's nothing wrong with that. I love that, and that's probably what most EvFans love about the band. That being said, if Amy decided she wanted to make a triphop or a folk record and release it under Evanescence, it wouldn't really work, you know? Even the 'pretty much solo Amy Lee' songs you mentioned fit a specific definition of what Evanescence music is. There isn't that much room to work completely different genres in Evanescence, and that's why I think that releasing solo music would be a better idea. You're right that Amy is Ev, that she is free now and she could very well release a country Evanescence album if she wanted, and it would definitely get more immediate attention being labelled as Ev, but I don't think it would work out that way.

I honestly don't think a solo album well sell well or have any hits. I mean look at tarja's solo career, the music is fsntastic but the sales are not so don't expect big numbers. Also being a member of a really popular band means nothing either, remember the Jonas bros? They were a pop sensation but joe's solo album flopped. I think those bad examples (personally). Nightwish is only really know in the metal community. So it's not like she'd have a big following outside that. And the Jonas Brothers were a tween band. Wasn't his album targeted at an older/adult audience? I think with the right promotion it could do really well.

I just think it'd be a smarter business move to release it under Evanescence, just because it would get more exposure, and well, she has mouths to feed. I know that everyone here would buy any of Amy's music no matter what she released it under, and although A TON of people know who she is, a lot more people know who Evanescence is.. I think a big part of the struggle is placing limits on what Evanescence actually is. It's not a person. It's not an identity. It's just this THING that has supplied us time and time again with great life changing music. Does it have to be a rock band? No. Does it have to stick to only one genre and formula? No. For me, Amy's music (solo or not) will always have traces of Evanescence, because she is Evanescence. Evanescence is her. They are part of each other. She has already made a name for herself in the music industry. Why change that? You know?

This is an interesting one. I think (a solo album) could either be a surprise success and produce that one (BMTL like) single that starts off on indie radio and suddenly gains the album huge exposure, or it will be the kind of album that only diehard Ev/Amy fans/ diehard fans of any artist/s she decides to collab with (eg: Dave Eggar) will pick up.
Amy will no doubt write something that's completely unlike anything that's been heard before, so that will play into her hands from the point of view that it will be different, but I think music's moved on to the point now that it's difficult to get that huge exposure that means that that you're suddenly played everywhere and people are forced to take notice. As Amy mentioned in an Ev3 era interview (I forget which one), it's more about searching for that "niche" and working your way through music websites etc. to find music you personally like rather than just listening to a very limited number of radio stations and bearing with music you dislike to find that one song you do. So I think any grand success will take time to develop (we won't have a repeat of Fallen).
I agree with Danny that releasing a solo album under the name Evanescence would be the most profitable move. More people have heard of Evanescence than Amy Lee, although she is, in my opinion, the only member of the band who could get away with releasing an album under her own name and make some decent money from it (I've tried asking friends to name members of Evanescence and they always say "Amy Lee" and occasionally manage "Ben Moody" before giving up). Personally, I hope she doesn't release a solo album under Evanescence as I still prefer to think of Evanescence as a band, and the sum of the ideas of its current lineup rather than "Amy Lee featuring...".
I think any album under the name Evanescence will sell more albums right off the bat, though, purely because of the pedigree behind the name "Evanescence".

I don't put a lot of faith in this plan but I figure that MAYBE putting out a solo album before announcing a Ev album could generate buzz for Ev. I feel like Ev has to be fresh in the minds of people to get more attention. Like imagine if Ev3 was put out a year after TOD instead of like 5 years?
But I agree that Amy has mouths to feed. She and the band will have to figure out the best strategy moving forward. A solo album could be a waste.
Man music business is tough now that I'm thinking about it. I barely know anything. This is just my observations.

I think it depends on the music, and actually... I think Halestorm will have a lot to do with it. I've had my eye on them for years now, and finally, after a ton of hard work and constant touring I feel like they are bubbling under breaking huge. Lzzy's appearance on "Shatter Me" and at the CMT awards just threw her name out there, and if their next album can produce a worthy radio hit (although we'll see, I think they are going heavier this time around), then it will allow Evanescence to just slide right into that revival of rock on radio and do well.
Of course that's just my opinion, lol.

Depends on many factors, the state of the music industry at the time, how good the promotion is, the kind of music she/they go for (if it's popular at the time or not).
Of course that die-hard fans will always be there buying EV/Amy records, but they'll need extra help with the general public.
I don't mind it if they never have a mega success like Fallen really, besides it's difficult to replicate those numbers with the current state of the music industry, I'll be satisfied with them making just enough money to keep making records and touring.

^^ this. unfortunately the so called pop-music for radio/tv positive people went from 90/00's "rock" style to hell so much and i really really hope that when the next Ev4 will be released, rock music will be "IN" again. it's different every decade. i'm so tired of that lollipop/dubstep/whatever else what is "IN" right now, honestly.
but it could actually help Amy to establish her own name with her solo record. it's not generally good environment for Ev though.

You'd be very surprised at how well artists do that aren't your generic 'pop star'. I actually think provided that Amy has a decent budget for promo and stuff, her writing will do the selling. I think she should release under 'Amy Lee' purely because she needs to be separate from the sound associated with Ev. She could easily be classed as more of an Adult Contemporary artist, and I've always thought of Amy as the 'rock version' of Alicia Keys - purely because of how skilled they both are at writing, playing piano & singing, they let the melodies speak for themselves. I don't think she'd necessarily need to shift many singles either, just as long as she had enough exposure to sell the album. You only need to look at the likes of Adele, Emeli Sande, Alicia, John Legend, etc in the UK and they all sell based on their voice & material. There's also a shift a market for younger musicians too who aren't necessarily 'bubblegum pop'. A good thing HMV do now too is 'Hmv Recommends' which is a huge push for awesome 'indie' artists who wouldn't necessarily get exposure in the mainstream, funnily enough Tarja's new album was one of the titles added this week and is on display in the front of the store. Material wise, I think she'd get away with a fair amount of genres. She could easily have a mix of electronically influenced tracks, trip hop even, and of course stripped back ballads (a la Your Love and the acoustics of ATILF etc). It's funny I've always thought 'Trouble' could have been sang by Amy... especially the acoustic version >> www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVQ20P46Qwc (the original demo version sounds like an epic massive attack song and she sings it more 'operatic' but that hasn't surfaced since I heard it ) The Glassheart acoustic sessions really remind me of The Open Door acoustics www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7Hje5F4iK0 Another that I could imagine Amy singing, but maybe not as crazy at the end lol www.youtube.com/watch?v=uA4C5z0oSc0 > Colorblind cover
