I'm honestly not so sure about it, as I personally haven't heard, nor read explanations and clarifications about -all- the other songs on Ev3 from the band themselves...

Okay, so this is the ONLY song (right?) from the EV LP that we don't know the influence/meaning of, correct? I think Amy hasn't commenting on inspiration for Made of stone, The change, Erase this, Oceans, Disappear and Say you will. I could be wrong though..

I think Amy hasn't commenting on inspiration for Made of stone, The change, Erase this, Oceans, Disappear and Say you will. I could be wrong though.. Waaiitt a minute . . . I seem to remember on the old EvThreads that people asked Amy(during a Meet & Greet? during the listening parties?) about "The Change" (since it was one of the five songs played for the preview audiences right?) and she said it was about a relationship gone bad (but it was NOT about Josh). Wasn't "Made of Stone" explained when it released as a single? "Erase This" was the frankenstein of the EV LP - cobbled together from two other songs and the lyrics were written last out of the entire album (if memory serves). I'm not surprised she hasn't really talked about that song "Oceans" . . . "Oceans" . . . well we do know about the inspiration behind that song right? Didn't they explain it when they were talking about "Disappear/Kraken?" Right? They overlooked the ocean (or something) when they were in (California?) and were inspired by the scenery or something? Ehhh . . . We got "Disappear" (from the topic): Amy: ...Basically, it's about losing someone or giving up to addiction, and feeling like they're slipping away and you want to get them back and say "hey, you can do it." I think my question was more aimed at the fact that we have heard NOTHING ever about Say You Will. Think about it, at least something has been said about every song on the EV LP and Disappear was talked about (it being played live, and the meaning); NWTB was talked about (mostly the meaning behind it); and Secret Door was talked about (the only bonus song on the DVD to get an explanation, its rivarly with Swimming Home, being played acoustically, and meaning). But Say You Will? Not even a peep from any interview I ever read. Hence why I said it's the only song we don't really know anything (at all, meaning or otherwise) about.

I'm not surprised she hasn't really talked about that song What's that supposed to mean? Hehehe.... She said it was one of the last completed, but implied that there were multiple songs whose lyrics were written during the recording process at the same time as Erase This, which was "crazy" because she usually likes to have the vocals mapped out ahead of time... Though she does suggest that the lyrics were the last thing finished in ET itself because she'd have to do some 'deep thinking' alone. Perhaps she hasn't given an explanation for SYW because... Well, it's just so obvious what the song is about. With SYW the meaning could not be any more apparent, perhaps more than any other song on the album. Or maybe she just doesn't care about it much and no one has bothered asking her any questions about it.

Didn't they explain it when they were talking about it being called "Kraken?" Right? They overlooked the ocean (or something) when they were in (California?) and were inspired by the scenery or something? Ehhh . . . Do you have links for these quotes? Please help a fellow Evhead's memory! Disappear was Kraken by the way, not Oceans.

Though she does suggest that the lyrics were the last thing finished in ET itself because she'd have to do some 'deep thinking' alone. It was said out of endearment, I promise! ;D One of the Top 5 songs out of the EV LP that I first liked was "Erase This," since I'm a sucker for catchy piano. But I imagine it must be hard to answer the question "what is Erase This about" since, (and this is my speculation here - I think you and I talked about this before), this song was kinda-sorta from two other songs (Vanilla and that . . . other working title which name I can't remember) and the lyrics were (yes you are right on this point) one of the last completed, especially in terms of the song itself (which is what I was trying to say before). Do you have links for these quotes? Please help a fellow Evhead's memory! Disappear was Kraken by the way, not Oceans. Oops! I knew that! I swear I had a little moment *edited* Point still stands though, although I have to look back and see on that MTV interview whether or not it was just Disappear (as Kraken) they were talking about with their ocean inspiration, or (in fact) it was both. Maybe I was confused because they were inspired by the ocean, but that didn't per-se inspire the SONG "Oceans." Ah, the interview (for Disappear) where that came from, according to the Disappear topic, came from: She said it in the Rockline radio interview with Lzzy Hale, Amy, and the guys from Chevelle from July 23, 2012. DeMarzi asked the question. I'm not sure about "Made of Stone," although I could have sworn that it was talked about (as was "The Other Side") when both came out as promo singles? Right? Those *ooh* *ahh* interviews about new singles and usually one of the question is either what the song is about or what inspired Amy to write it. Another question, do you all think "Say You Will" is especially hard to play live or something? That actually surprises me - that they haven't tried to play SYW live yet. Every song other than EOTD (which she said, if memory serves, is too hard to sing live), NWTB (also too hard? Don't know about this one) and SYW, has been played live. But SYW doesn't strike me as a song that is harder (than say NGB or ET) to play live, so I wonder why they don't try it. Say You Will is like the ugly duckling of the EV LP

^I think it was a matter of rehearsing and seeing if the song sounded right live and what (if anything) needed to be tweaked. I would have especially liked to see SYW or NWTB live. Though, from what Joanna relayed to us about live songs, it seems they hadn't rehearsed SYW or NWTB at all as potential live songs...

On Twitter, Tim said, when he was asked if he ever wrote music on guitar, that "I wrote Say You Will on the guitar". So we do know that the song's guitar parts were written by Tim, and you know, obviously the bass too. ;D

For whatever reason, this song took a while to grow on me. I really love the song as a whole, but that bridge is a big load of awesome!
Just saying.

I love the lyric "Like drops of rain against my heart. Cut through like silver." Such a powerful moment of music and lyrics coupled with emotion. Still gives me shivers. Is this part the bridge of the song?

It just seemed too... I dunno, mainstream and cheesy? But now I like it A LOT, not love it--yet, more than I did.
