Evanescence, Track #4 ( on Evanescence.com) I will wander 'til the end of time, torn away from you. I pulled away to face the pain. I close my eyes and drift away. Over the fear that I will never find A way to heal my soul. And I will wander 'til the end of time Torn away from you. My heart is broken Sweet sleep, my dark angel Deliver us from sorrow's hold (Over my heart). I can't go on living this way But I can't go back the way I came Chained to this fear that I will never find A way to heal my soul And I will wander 'til the end of time Half alive without you My heart is broken Sweet sleep, my dark angel Deliver us Change - open your eyes to the light I denied it all so long, oh so long Say goodbye, goodbye My heart is broken Release me, I can't hold on Deliver us My heart is broken Sweet sleep, my dark angel Deliver us My heart is broken Sweet sleep, my dark angel Deliver us from sorrow's hold

I fell in love with this song right after I first listened to it on YouTube and I'll never get tired of listening to this one. One of my all-time favorite Ev songs.

I really love the piano part! When I heard the song for the first time I immediately fell in love with it! One of my favorite songs on Ev3.

This is my least favorite song on the album. While I do appreciate the inspiration behind the song and think that the music is cool, I can't relate to it at all and the fact that I find the line "my heart is broken" corny doesn't really help either.

After listening to this song over and over, i've come to realise that i have a love/hate relationship with it.
For one side, i don't like the lyrics. It's not just because of some very corny lines like "sweet sleep, my dark angel" or "my heart is broken". The thing is that the inspiration behind this song is sex trafficking and Amy's experience interacting with it's victims. However, the song still sounds like your typical, vague Ev song about a break-up. I think that the sex trafficking issue is very complex and has so many implications. I feel like she could have written something more interesting and direct. Something rawer and more political, using references to gender-based violence for example, instead of your typical Ev formula.
In the other hand, though, i LOVE the melody. It's just beautiful and flows easily when you sing it. I find myself singing it in my head very often. It's got this insane hook. I like it musically, the piano and drums are amazing and Amy's voice sounds brilliant. I love it in that respect.
(I have a "complaint" about Amy's lyrics in general. She overuses certain words, for example: bleed/blood/bleeding, long, heart, pain, fall/falling, dark/darkness. I'd like her to find different words and expressions to use in the next album).

How can such a beautiful song sound so bland when done acoustically? I don't think it even sounds that good live. Such a shame.

Agreed over the whole line. It's a gorgeous melody. Love the piano, Amy's voice, the drums. But as you said, the lyrics, though based on serious issues, do sound too cheesy. And I also agree about the overuse of certain words. (Add broken and oceans to the list lol ) Although, it'd be weird to see an Evsong that clearly dealt with political/ethical issues without ambiguous lyrics.

I always was addicted to this song from the first time I heard it. And i love Amy's inspiration behind it. Having younger siblings who have been sexually abused I can see how the lyrics do relate to the whole sex-trafficking issue. Amy said she put herself in that position, feeling trapped and helpless, wanting to get out but fearing escape leads to more harm. While to the average person it does sound like your typical break-up song, there is a lot hidden behind it. Like the lyrics "chained to this fear that I will never find a way to heal my soul..." I saw that a lot with my sisters, how they hid their pain for so long from fear that letting it out would only get them hurt more. The whole song reflects the perspective of someone trying to break free, someone dealing with such tragic pain their heart literally is broken. I also like the music video, I think it does a good job metaphorically portraying the whole "trapped, trying to break free and find a way out" feeling.

Unlike NGV, the live version of MHIB with a lower key doesn't really do it for me though... Very true...I've seen her wear this skirt, what, six times now? She wore this both times Evanescence came to Tampa. Pity, because I was hoping she'd wear something new in April. Anyways this isn't the best song live.
