Not sure if this is the right forum for this, so please move it to the correct one if it isn't. Thank you.
So
I've been a fan since 04 or 05 (can't quite remember which one) and I used to be hopelessly obsessed with Amy and everything Ev. I would constantly talk about them, google them, listen to their songs, write stories based off of their songs, etc. I was an Ev maniac. I even got most of my friends into Ev and we all used to sit around at lunch in middle school and talk about Ev and what little news we were getting before the release of ToD.
Ev was a giant part of my life in middle and high school but now it's like the passion is gone, lol. I obsessed a bit over their last album and even got a little of their merch but then after awhile my obsession just kinda died.
It's not that I don't like Ev or anything, it's just I don't feel the same passion for them as I used to. I don't go out of my way to find the latest Ev news or anything anymore. I'm probably one of the last people to find out when a song has been leaked now, lol. I also don't "worship" Amy anymore. xD
I don't really even listen to them anymore and sometimes when I have my iPod on shuffle I seriously have to skip over their songs.
Maybe it's because I'm older. Or just tired of them. Not sure.
Can anyone relate?

I go through phases like this. It's usually because I'm burnout on listening to them since I do basically all the time. It's normal.
Plus you are growing up and you're getting out of that "hero worship" phase and beginning to realize you are your own person and you don't really need anyone to look up to and have "reassurance" anymore. Not saying you don't look up to Amy anymore or that you don't respect her anymore. I'm just saying that you're probably finding YOURSELF and you are happy and comfortable with who you are and don't need anyone else's approval.
I don't look up to Amy in the same way as I used to when I first got into them or even from the TOD era. I still idolize her and hope to meet her one day, but I don't look at her and say "It's okay that I'm like the way I am because she is similar/like me." I'm comfortable and happy with who I am.

I feel the opposite way, I am more and more addicted to them with time.

I 'm exactly the same. I don't listen to Ev nearly as much as I used to when I discovered them. I don't really listen to the Ev music on my iPod because they're all memorized in my head. I'll be obsessed with one band for a month or two and then I won't be able to listen to the same band for a while. Same with songs; I'll be obsessed for a week or two, then skip over it for a while. It's pretty common from what I know because all of my friends do the exact same thing. I also find that if you find another hobby and get involved in that or caught up in school or work because you're distracted you don't bother trying to find out the latest Ev news. I created a Twitter during the Christmas holidays so I could find out all the latest music and TV news, but then I went back to school after the holidays and haven't touched my account since.

Believe me, you're not the only one (omg, Ev ref!). My hype on Evanescence is always high when the band is out and about, doing things, news are coming up all the time, there's always stuff happening. When the hiatus kicks in, my hype vanishes and I'm left with: 'yeah, Evanescence is a cool band, I really like them', but it's not that fangirling anymore, it's just, well you know, something you really like but grew used to. I used to be really hype on them when I first discovered them and all their music, for about 2 years I was a die-hard fangirl, but life started to take its toll (EV REF AGAIN!) and I had to start worrying about "adulthood" problems sort of thing. We all grow out of it, because in our teenage years, as AeternusAmatorius said, we need to look up to someone to have a reference as what and who we want to be like when we grow up. That's why influent people play such a big part as role models. It goes away after some time, so you'll be fine. It's normal!

That's so true... You're not alone! Some friends of mine got addicted to Ev because of me, and when I'm talking to them showing other bands, musics... They're like: "Oh, wait... What about Evanescence?" You know, I love Ev, love Amy... But it's almost 8 years... I'm getting old, I have to live my own life.

I'm going through this right now. It's like I still love them, but I skip over them on my iPod when they come on. :~:

These guys are right, it's very normal to feel like this. I don't listen to any of my favourite bands as often as I used to, and I certainly don't obsess over them the way I did when I was fifteen, but that doesn't mean I love them any less. As you grow older and learn more about yourself, you need fewer outside factors to identify with. It's perfectly natural to be a fangirl and let something you love influence your decisions and the way you present yourself and see the world, but it's also okay to embrace the rest of the world and other things you like, and I'd say it's even a little healthier. It's already been said, but when a band is on hiatus it's a lot harder to keep that same level of enthusiasm because after a while everything grows stale, and if you've been listening to the same three albums (and however many demos) for years, you're bound to grow tired of it. There's nothing shameful in that, either. You're no less of an Evanescence fan if you don't find yourself clamouring to tweet from a band member. It's okay to exist outside of Ev.

It's quote normal to feel this way, I sometimes go months, even almost a year without listening to a band, then when I do it's as if I'm listening them anew for the first time. I think excitement tends to peak when the band announces new material or even a tour, then dies down once things begin settling.

I agree with Kazlan Sometimes it's even healthier. And, I don't know about you, but I prefer talk to "old" fans... They are not crazy about an idol, and you can talk to them easily about interesting things and not just about how beautiful Amy is. It's good to see new people who like the same band as you, but they are so annoying talking about the "perfect Amy who never made a mistake". You can't even joke writing her name wrong, and it's enough to drive them crazy ahaha

M. Lee Oh, I know, right? Although, I kind of love it when you jokingly call Ev 'Effernescence' and they get angry. Ah, I'm a meanie. Lol.

AHaha They start arguing with you because of "Emy" and the way I pronounce "Evanescence" wrong just to piss them off... "Are you saying you are a fan?" Ahahah Sometimes this kind of things are the best part of my day! I'm mean only with the crazy ones... With those who really want to learn about Ev, I'm a good teacher ahah

Sometimes I get like this. Especially when EV takes their infamous breaks. Still, I can just never get tired of their music. I am always discovering new things from them that I never new and since the latest era my passion for EV has been bigger and better then ever before. I just hope this break isn't for too long, or at least during down time Amy will do some solo projects or something to keep us fired up!

I think we can all agree we lose a little interest when there is no news or new material. However, for me it's more so losing interest in other bands such as Flyleaf or Nightwish due to them changing singers and such, and I have not had the regular internet connection over the past 6 months or so to check out new stuff. So, all in all my interest in Ev is about the same. I haven't really discover new music or bands in close to a year.
