Long lost words whisper slowly to me (
Aaahhh)
Still can’t find what keeps me here (
Aaahhh)
When all this time I’ve been so hollow inside
I know you’re still there
Watching me wanting me
I can feel you pull me down
Fearing you loving you
I know I'll find you somehow
1:21 - 1:32
Hunting you I can smell you - Alive (
Aaahhhh)
Your heart pounding in my head
Calling me killing me
I won't let you pull me down
Saving me raping me
Watching me

Some Things To Think About/Debate Over
-This song was played live and put on the "Anywhere But Home Live CD" as Track #1 (4:05). [Zenith, Paris 2004]
Song:
-During the Fallen tour, this song usually came after Going Under if the Intro song was played. This usually was during the 2003 concerts. In 2004, Haunted usually was the first song played, and then Going Under came after it.
-This song was played live and put on the "My Immortal Single" as Track #3 (3:10). [Live Sessions @ AOL]
-The version on the Fallen Promotional LP is the same as the second demo (v2) of the 2001 - 2002 Demos. The only difference is that it eliminates nine seconds of extra silence at the end.
-A "funny" song meaning as posted by Ben Moody:
Haunted:
Ben wrote the lyrics (except the part about "raping me"... that was just Amy being a freak
-Ben Moody's "story" on Haunted:
A little girl around 8 or 9 in a little white Easter dress is walking down a neighborhood street bouncing a little red ball. As she approaches an obviously deserted large house with a sinister demeanor, her attention moves from the ball to the house. Not paying attention to her bouncing, the ball hits the curb and ricochets toward the house. As she chases the little red ball toward the house, the ball picks up unnatural momentum and bounces right into the huge gaping front door. The little girl pauses for a moment, looks up at the house, which now appears to be staring down at her, and cautiously enters the house in search of her little red ball. as she slowly walks into the atrium, she surveys the decaying mess that once was obviously a beautiful mansion. She becomes mesmerized by the exquisite detail of every inch of the banister winding up the seemingly endless staircase in front of her. Suddenly her thoughts are broken by a horrifying commotion. She whips around to run out the front door, but finds only a blank wall where the door once stood. Frightened, she runs down the first hallway she sees, trying desperately to find a way out, but with every turn the world behind her changes, bending to the will of the house, so that even finding a path back to the atrium where she began becomes impossible. Terrified, the little girl sinks into a corner, puts her head in her hands, and weeps.
10 years later....
The little girl wakes up in a panic, now a young woman. Dirty, scarred. She's now clothed in black pants, work boots, and a black wife beater. Her skin is pale and dirty. Sun has not graced her flesh in over a decade. She wakes to find a meal placed on a dirty silver tray before her, just enough to sustain life, just like every morning before. Placed there by a figure she can only see in passing, around a corner, walking through a door.... a figure that has become her only friend, and her only hate. Her entire existence has become nothing but to hunt and destroy this shadow that keeps her here. As she hunts him relentlessly day after day, she becomes lost in the dichotomy of her being. This thing that keeps her here, this person that repeatedly rapes her mind and watches her when she sleeps, has become her only friend. For is this person left, she would cease to exist. For she live only to kill him. But lives only FOR him. Every day the house changes around her, so that every day she wakes in a foreign land. The only constant... is him. She hears his heart beating, she smells him, she can only think of finding him, but he is also the only thing she knows of love.
SOURCE-It is an EvRumor that My Immortal was written from the point of view of the "stalker," (in the above story) in comparison to Haunted which was written from the point of view of the "stalked." I always found this to be an interesting take on both of the songs - can anyone compare the lyrics and see if the person that the persona (i.e. main character) of both songs is referring to, makes sense (in connection to both songs)?
-Ben did NOT write the lyrics to this song. Ben wrote the story, of which the song is inspired from.
hahaha. wow. I know Ben's claimed he wrote the lyrics to haunted more than once, (in front of me even) but how did that get to you guys? Is it in an interview or something? funny. I don't care. Anyway, to answer the question, that IS my real, real lyric journal and those are my real, real words. good to see you guys again! We'll be recording soon- YAAAAAY!
love
amy
SOURCEyeah- this is basically it. ben had a theme that he wrote out in the form of a short story. I read it and used the inspiration to write the lyrics.
SOURCE-Haunted (v3) and Haunted (v4) are still relatively new to the EvCommunity, and thus need a bit of explanation behind them.
Haunted (v3) was first talked about on the French BMTL forums. Erroneously, it had the label "Origin" on it (i.e., it would be listed as "Haunted (Origin)"). There was never a version of Haunted on the Origin CD. What is DID have, however, was the song Origin "blended" into the beginning of, what was essentially, the v1 demo of Haunted. That is what v3 is about. This song, despite being talked about on the French BMTL forums, was not widely circulated.
and another thing, when this site still had Origin on, the first track was somehow combined with Haunted V.1, so my guess is that by now we won't find anything new from the old days, but if you do - keep us posted!
Haunted (v3) was listed on the EvanescenceReference on October of 2006, but unfortunately the downloads did not work at the time. As a result, we knew about the song, but did not have it (hence why we got v4 before v3).
Haunted [demo version #3]
Recording date: 2001
Status: Unreleased
Note: this track is Haunted (demo version #1) and Origin from the album Origin merged together.
Of course, what did "merged" exactly mean? Sometime in late 2006/early 2007, FOI member
EveninDeath46 sought to make the song (to fill the void until we actually had it officially) by simply joining Origin and Haunted (v1) together, creating . . . well a merged song, heh. Despite some initial criticism from members of FMB (v1) forums, the song more or less was there, until December of 2007, when EvRef *finally* fixed their downloads and we were able to download the song. Much to the surprise of everyone, the song wasn't so much merged as it was . . . well, blended. Origin
blends into Haunted (v1) in such a way that no one could certainly have imagined.
Haunted (v4) was under our noses the entire time and, of course, we didn't notice it until waayy too far down the line. Haunted (v4), which was called Haunted (Radio Edit) on the EvWh0ringMediaPage [
SOURCE] (there are many things to notice on that page including the "Post-Origin Demo" label being applied to Imaginary v1 & v2, rare in that Imaginary (Post-Origin Demo) was a label for v1, but was subsequently dropped from use once v2 came out in other discographies; BMTL/TOM/Haunted "versions" are switched, which explains why some labels/videos have the versions incorrect but this did not spread very far; and so forth).
What is important to look at here is Haunted (Radio Edit) and Haunted (Non-Radio Edit). Despite the fact that the v1/v2 labels are switched here (ignore that, just like BMTL and TOM) this idea of a RE/N-RE dichotomy is interesting. Assumably, since the tracklising follows the NFYE bootleg, most people assumed the Radio Edit was v1 and the Non-Radio Edit was v2. So as a result, most people didn't pay too much mind to the "Radio Edit" as it was assumed to be v1, the version everyone already had. This was not correct.
Ah. I had always heard that the Radio Edit was v.1, too.
Hmm...I used to have v.1, but it appears I downloaded the one from the Evanescence reference and replaced my v.1 because the bitrate was higher, and the one from the Evanescence reference was the Radio Edit, but I didn't realize they were different. I really only ever listen to Demo 2 because I prefer it.
09 3:23 Haunted (Demo V.1 [non-radio edit])
Most discographies dropped the "Radio Edit" label (or at least marginalized it; certainly ALL dropped the Non-Radio Edit label almost instantaneously, thank goodness). Yet despite this, the label still lingered (thank you EvBoard). Eventually, the Radio Edit soon came to denote the v2 (not v1 or v4) version of the song, most likely due to the influence of the Fallen Publicity Promo, where Haunted v2 was the last song. People likely assumed that the "edit" was just a fancy name for the demo, much like the Mystary Edit was for MI (i.e. the Band Version demo, also technically a 2001-2002 demo). Another possibility is that people got confused, due to the fact that the website had the v1/v2 switched and, upon correcting this, the Radio Edit label was transferred (in other words, if the Non-Radio Edit was v1, then the Radio Edit was v2. Despite switching the labels later on, to the songs we know them now as, the Radio Edit came to be linked to v2 instead of v1).
10. Haunted V.2 / Haunted [Radio Edit]
3:16 Haunted (Radio Edit)
I'm pretty sure that's official, or officialish, I mean it was actually Haunted V.2 from 2001-2002 Demos but it was called the Radio Edit, so I don't know if that counts as a remix.
Moving forward a few years, we get to February of 2007. It is then when I, upon finding the EvWh0ringMediaPage, began looking through the files (thank goodness they were still active then!). I downloaded the Radio Edit (and a whole bunch of others), especially after someone on FMB (v1) began questioning what the song was all about, and I realized that WAIT A MINUTE, this version is not in fact v1 but instead a whole new demo. The end, it is different since you can hear Amy vocalizing in it like v2 and v1 is not suppose to have that! Thus, we finally realized that the Radio Edit, in this regard, was neither v1 nor v2, but instead v4. Of course, this is hard to fix - discographies (old) still list it as v2 (or if they are REALLY old, as v1) and YouTube still has it as v1 (search Haunted (Radio Edit) and that is what you will find), but slowly we are making progress.
As a summary, this is the differences in a nutshell:
v1) Different lyrics, no vocalization at the end.
v2) Fallen lyrics, vocalization at the end.
v3) Origin + v1
v4) Different lyrics, vocalization at the end. (v1 + v2)
-Quote taken from Playing Evanescence Interview 2003: [Ben talks, (Amy talks)]
"(This is really, you know, kind of- one of those songs that is more hypothetical. I mean, um, the song is really a story. Um, obviously the emotions always come from a place that, you know, we've been through or-or felt before. But, um the actual experience is, is um fictional.) Um it was kind of- my input on that was just um, a lot of lyrics came from, when we at first written the music I just sat with it on repeat and just sort of did free, what's it called, free association (free writing), writing or whatever I just um, we just writing you know cause I had this story in my mind when I wrote the music and then I was like okay well I'll put myself in the position of one of the characters in the story and um, just everything that I felt and everything I thought, just started typing it endlessly and then gave it to her (yeah and I just interpreted it and uh, put melodies and lyrics into it.)"
-According to Music Notes:
(1) Haunted is written in G Major.
(2) It is set in a time signature of common time and performed in a tempo of 76 beats per minute.
(3) Amy Lee's vocals range from E3 to the note of C#5.
SOURCE-When Evanescence played Haunted at the Hard Rock Café in Orlando (2003), the word "raping" was edited out of the performance when it was broadcasted. The same went for the word "die" (the part in Tourniquet) as it plays in the Intro used during the Fallen tours. It is likely this was done as to not offend the delicate mentalities of certain listeners.
-DoubleA and myself have discussed this at length, and we did not come to an agreement on it yet. It is in my view that there is no fifth demo of Haunted, as I first stated back in 2007 when DoubleA brought it to my attention on the FOI forums. The song that was uploaded for me to listen to back then sounded like the v2 version. DoubleA reuploaded it for me here (I think you can see our conversation about it in the 2001 - 2002 Demo topic), and it sounded like a whoa!bootlegged version of v2, where the guitars and drums are given wicked reverb and volume, but other than that I cannot pin-point anything specifically different that would make me give a seal of approval that there is a fifth demo. I am open to changing my mind on this, however.
THANKS to DoubleA for the lyrics and the videos are from FallenEvArmy!
