When they first started talking about the album and giving clues to the sounds, influences, and themes on it, I really thought they were going to name it Oceans. I like that title, but not quite for what the album turned out to be. There are certainly still songs that fit with it (Oceans, NGB, Swimming Home), but I'm betting the stuff they were originally working on fit with the idea and sound of a title like Oceans more.
I still hope they'll make a future album called Oceans that is truly inspired by the ocean. There's a lot of places they could go with it, since the ocean has so many different aspects to it. It can be chaotic, angry, calm, mysterious, hypnotic, dark, otherworldly...everything! So I hope they'll eventually do a concept album of sorts with the ocean.
But anyway, as for a different title for this album...gosh, I'm not creative like that. I actually like the idea of Rebirth/Reborn or something similar. It would've made a lot of sense.
Now that I think about it, I actually don't really like the idea of this album being self-titled. I feel like a self-titled album farther along into a band's career kind of implies that they think the sound of that album really defines who they are. And I don't feel that this album does that. It mostly just showed one side of them - the heavy side. That's not completely what Evanescence is. At least, I hope it doesn't become that way.

I also like the idea of "Oceans" or "Swimming Home" as a title for the album. There is a huge water theme, and it would fit that.

Actually I like that rule of albums not being named by particular songs very much. I'm glad that it's like that. Any sign of the "oceans" theme would be cool (and very appropriate) in the case of EV3 but also the album would be much more blue with that title. Well, it's all about blue color, and it always was, and I love it that way

Lol. Not only that, "Origin" wasn't an album. frozenflames: What are you talking about? Second song rule with the album title in the second song? Like in "Fallen", the second song is BMTL and the album title "The Open Door" is in it. "How can you see into my eyes like open doors..." Atleast that's what I think it means. That's exactly it. When Open Door came out, people started noticing the pattern. The second song of Origin (yes, I know it's not technically an album, just humor me) is Whisper ( fallen angels at my feet) and the second song of Fallen is Bring me to Life (How can you see into my eyes like open doors). Amy said it was completely coincidental but I was hoping it would continue on, intentionally or not.

Don't forget "lock the last open door..." from ATILF. I'm really glad you mentioned that, because I'm pretty sure that's where the title for the album came. I mean, that pattern was a cool idea and all, but Whisper was on Fallen as well as Origin, and while I imagine the album title did come from Whisper, I think it's because it was on that album. So I'd say that 'Fallen' came from Fallen's Whisper, 'The Open Door' came from All That I'm Living For, and if they had named Ev3 using the lyrics from one of the songs on Ev3, I feel like it would have been something referring to water or the ocean because of the references to water in the lyrics, or perhaps dreams or paradise. Although, since reading through this thread I've really grown on the idea of Swimming Home being the title of the album. That would have been absolutely delightful.

I noticed that pattern to, whether it was intentional or not, which is why I still like Paradise. It connects the previous and current album.

I just hope we get the remaining tracks, which I imagine had even more of an ocean theme to them, and a chill electro vibe. With Amy's haunting voice. Time will tell. Swimming Home is a great title too, as well as Oceans.

I really liked the names "Rebirth" and "Swimming Home"... I feel like "The Change" (or simply just "Change") is a nice title but it doesn't fit the ocean theme (and I really loved that idea) As for names that come from lyrics I had two ideas: -"Without Wings" from E.O.T.D. (or "Even Without Wings") -"Beneath The Waves" from N.G.B. (this would fit the ocean theme) But I have no ideas about a title that has nothing to do with the songs... ^^^Cupcake Funland is a great idea

I honestly think Amy probably would have named it Swimming Home. Ever since the official tracklist was revealed, I always thought this would have been the perfect title. Not only does it fit the "oceans" and "freedom" theme, it also metaphorical about how they've gone back to the true Evanescence sound with the entire band working on the record. Well said, De. I also think the album is perfect self titled because of the fact that Evanescence has found who they are at last. Amy is completely comfortable in her own skin, being happy with Josh and just a importantly, a musician and artist to boot. If I had been a fan around during the break, I would've kept my faith even during Amy's. self doubt. Because, simply, Amy can't not write the way she does. Sooner or later she would've discovered the "chick from Effervescence" really IS who she is. Not just a title that she wears. The current lineup works so well it's like the guys were meant to have been there all along. Well, it's not like, but they actually were meant to. 'Evanescence' itself, the word, makes it seem like the band itself is omnipresent. Which is more or less true. They are the faint, flickering light in our lives. The artwork and album title reflects all of this and more.

^This is exactly why I think the idea to self-title it is perfect! But if absolutely had to choose what to rename it, I think I'd go with Swimming Home, like Open The Door and DeMarzi said. Fits the album pretty well.
