After hearing the rap in the album version, the bliss mix just seems like it's missing something during the middle 8 part. I'm sure if we heard the non-rap version of BMTL, it wouldn't sound as though something was missing there as much (though it might in some respects). Idk how to explain it. Do you guys know what I mean? Yeah, I've thought about this too. You're right. But for me, I like the male vocals and it definitely doesn't seem complete without them. If anything, I think they actually add a lot of depth to the long. Amy said that she felt they "date" the song, but personally, I disagree. When you think about it, they're not exactly 'rap' vocals in the bridge, and he's not exactly rapping. He even screams as it goes back into the chorus. The whole thing was pulled off in a very fitting, rock'n'roll manner. Had it have been Mike Shinoda on the track like what they originally tried to work out, maybe it would have come across as a bit more 'rap' since he is actually a rapper Didn't they originally have a solo in that bridge section instead of the male vocals? It's on one or two of the demo versions. That would have been cool to keep in if they didn't go with the male vocals. Also live, now that John's not there to do them, it really does feel a bit lost, at least it did when I saw them. Once again, I totally think they could still do the bridge but put a solo in there instead. Everybody loves solos! Yeah. I didn't think Mike Shinoda would have been a good fit. I'm glad Linkin Park people said "No." to Wind-Up asking them about it. In Demo 1 and 2 there are solos but in demo two there are vocal ad libs by Amy ("me"... something that sounds like "Fa la la" or "Follow me"). In the Bliss Mix (the original that they wanted before the male vocals were forced) iare the strings in the background (I love those!!!!) and "I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems, got to open my eyes to everything .... Don't let me die here" Which I like that... I still dislike the skipping the middle 8 live. I think they can do it and just make it a solo, like you said (maybe the 2003 guitar intro thing Ben did-which thinking about it wouldn't really work in the middle of the song) or just have the guitars play the string part. Ooo! How epic would that be: the guitars playing that string part!? AHHH!!!!! And have Amy sing her part, or even both parts. It's able to be done. Haha!

I love/hate the male vox in BMTL. On one hand it's something I can sing along to (not saying I cant sing along to Amy, I do that all the time lmao) (and the badass growly part is awesome). But on the other hand the Wake Me Ups are honest to god lame.
However if I had to pick between vox or solo. Solo all day.

Returning the conversation to the male vocals in BMTL, I kind of like that they happened. If I want to listen to BMTL, I listen to the 2012 Bliss Mix version that FallenEvArmy made (I think?), but I like watching live videos and hearing the crowd sing the "wake me up" and "save me" parts. It's kinda boring in the album version of Fallen - or it is for me at this point, anyway - but it's a nice kind of fan-interaction thing now. Like Amy's singing a duet with the crowd, except not really like that at all.

It probably wouldn't have been such a hit without the male vocals sadly. Apparently people like that.
I got another question. Why do you guys think they went without the guitar solo? Why was that amazing solo scrapped?

^ I love the male vocals too! It always sounded more like rock/metal than rap to me. Probably because I'd love for Amy to some day have duets with male rock/metal singers.

It'd be better than the middle eight-less live performances they've been doing since John left.

I found a video of Evanescence performing BMTL WITHOUT any LEAD GUITARIST! I know this video is not Grammy awards (obviously). AeternusAmatorius, what awards is Ev into this video? I tried searching it out but I don't find any information about this award. Here's the video, by the way:

It was this " Live on CD November 15, 2003" performance. There was in interview afterwards so maybe there is some info in that, if it could be found. Also, maybe it was between the time when Terry replaced Ben. I'm not sure how that story exactly played out and how fast Terry replaced Ben. Maybe Terry was sick?

BMTL can be easily played with one guitar. There isn't much a second guitar can add to that song. Sounds like this was right after losing Ben and they couldn't get a replacement in time. If they needed someone they probably had their guitar tech playing off-stage.

Didn't Ben leave on October 24th, 2003? I know Terry filled in for the rest of the tour, but I don't think they hired Terry fulltime until sometime in 2004. Normally tour-only members of bands don't do promotional spots, interviews and TV performances, so I'm picking that's what the deal was.
I watched a video of Ev accepting a Grammy for either BMTL or My Immortal or something in 2004 and Ben was there with long hair and a beard. I know he was officially out of the band, but it struck me as really odd that he was there and went on stage with the band even though he didn't say anything.
