Song of the Week!Sooooo.......
Edit: Since discussion has died down, I'm making it Song of the 'work-week', meaning about five days for each song.
Basically, at the beginning of every week I'll update the first post of this thread with a different Evanescence song. Over the course of that week (if you choose to keep up with the thread) you give that song special attention. When you listen to Evanescence, you listen to that song. Everyone spends a few days thinking about that song, then over the course of the week we come back here and post all the good things we can say about that song. Only good things, it's like an appreciation thread... Especially if it's a song you don't like. Then we discuss all the wonderful details people point out and generally wank about it for a few days. Also, if you have suggestions for the next song of the week, post them with your love for the current song.
Sound like fun? I think so, at least. Now, presenting.... The song of this week: Lost in ParadiseFeaturing my personal favorite live performance of the song... I've been believing n something so distant As if I was human And I've been denying this feeling of hopelessness In me In me
All the promises I made Just to let you down You believed in me, but I'm broken
I have nothing left And all I feel is this cruel wanting We've been falling for all this time And now I'm lost in paradise
As much as I'd like the past not to exist It still does And as much as I'd like to feel like I belong here I'm just as scared as you
I have nothing left And all I feel is this cruel wanting We've been falling for all this time And now I'm lost in paradise
Run away Run away One day we won't feel this pain anymore Take it all away Shadows of you 'Cause they won't let me go
'Til I have nothing left And all I feel is this cruel wanting We've been falling for all this time And now I'm lost in paradise Alone And lost in paradise

Ooooh this sounds like so much fun! It's weird that you choose MI too start it off as that was my first Ev song! I absolutely love the black and white aspect of the video, it fits the song and the theme of the lyrics so perfectly. The band version is my favorite version of MI, though I think that the bridge in the piano-vocal version is one of the most beautiful bits of music I have ever heard. This song is just, it's amazing, no it's more than that it's, it's, it's AGFTGJFTHVJFHV I don't even know, I just know that I love it. *goes to put in fallen cd and play track twelve*

Hmm... this is my least favorite Ev song...*good things* I agree with aprilsolitude though, I love the black and white aspect, it's a nice touch. This was also one of my first Ev songs, after BMTL (well, you could've guessed that). It has nice memories associated with it, that no other song has. And the piano's perty! Yay!

I hate the black and white. This song almost turned me off Evanescence completly the first time I heard it (it was the third Ev song I ever heard). It's hard coming up with things I like about this song. Um... I like whatever that effect is in the ending?

Ring That's why you listen to it over the course of a week and try to appreciate what the song does right even if you hate it. Naturally, I picked My Immortal as the first song because A) Either it or BMTL would be a lot of people's first Ev song, B) It has developed quite a lot of haters over the years for being so immensely popular, hehehehehe... For a while I hated it too for always hogging the Evsong spotlight, but since I don't like Fallen in the first place I actually came to realize I like this song better than almost every other song on that album. *begins cleansing bfdx's aura* Boiioioioioioioing!

I haven't listened to My Immortal very often in the last few years, which I think is why I'm falling in love with the song again. It's not even just the song... it's the coupling of the song and the video that make it kind of hypnotic to me. I was watching the video the other day and the spell took a little while to wear off. It's such a graceful song when it comes down to it. The lilting melody over the unassuming piano accompaniment, the harmonies in the choruses are just divine, those strings are masterfully arranged... I can understand why it's one of Evanescence's most popular songs, I really can. Although, I really love the Mystary version. I feel like that should have been the version used on the album, and I kind of wish that the vocal track had been used for the single version as well. The vocals seem more varied, especially in that first chorus, and... I don't know, I just prefer it. Anyways, there's my lovely opinion on My Immortal.

I have to admit, in the last couple of listens, the middle eight is starting to sound not bland. Also, I'm assuming the band version is the one we're doing, since that is the one in the video. The Ev EP outtake is by far my favourite (or least hated) version. I know the piano in it is horrible, but at least it isn't so dull. Also agree with ladylollydragon (Kazlan) about the Mystary version vocals.

Yeah, I'm not splitting up these songs of the week by what version of the song it is (Or this thread will soon become as tedious as the hurt/heal thread the tenth time we've voted for Imaginary/Whisper/etc...). You listen to whatever version you like, heh.

This is such a great thread idea! Something Ev related to keep us occupied for a long time while we wait for new music. My Immortal. Well, it is one of my least favorite Ev songs. I actually spent a good amount of time hating the song after becoming sick of it during the Fallen days, but I've come to appreciate it a lot more over the years. While it's quite simple, it's still a lovely little song. I feel like it's obvious it was written by an emo teenager, but I think the lyrics in the whole 2nd verse are actually really beautiful. I definitely think the band version is the best. Amy's vocals are gorgeous in it and I love the dynamic the band adds - it gives the song real power and a much needed kick. I also think it's technically the best Ev video. While "GU" and "Lithium" take my first 2 spots for personal favorite videos, I think "MI" is the most well-made video of theirs. The imagery is all so beautiful and emotional and just so perfectly shot. I think it's a masterpiece. Years ago I used to wish that they'd just stop playing this song live, but after seeing it again at a concert I went to in 2012, I'm glad they've kept it. It's always such a special moment during concerts. I feel like it brings everyone together in this beautiful, nostalgic moment. It's magical, really.

I agree, in a concert My Immortal really is a special moment, even if I'd prefer at least ten other songs. I was especially irritated at the show I went to during CoM when they didn't play SH. I was really hoping for it in the encore, but we just got My Immortal... In the end, it was such a lovely little performance and the crowd was so involved that it was still enjoyable. However, had I not already known that Erase This was long gone from the set list, I would have bitched sooooooo hard about MI being in it, heh.....
My thoughts on My Immortal: Since I consider Fallen to be over all a vapid and shallow album, I find no fault in My Immortal's incredible shallowness, heh (unless it is being compared to literally ANY "ballad" from the later albums, which are all significantly better)... In fact, I think it's one of the best songs on Fallen, if not the best. It really has a beautiful piano part and some good lyrics in the second verse...

As much as I love to hate on this song(and Bring Me To Life) I have to give it credit for helping myself and countless other people know who Evanescence was. It may be overrated as hell but there is no denying that certain special sound it has to it that made it so popular when any of their other ballads could have been popular.
There also is the fact that the piano in the song is quite different I think from other ballads that Amy has composed. I don't know if it had to do with Ben or something else but I always feel like in a way My Immortal is just superior to the other ballads music wise

I'm really liking the bridge lately.
Also, I'm voting for Sick to be the next Song of the Week.
