kbps is indeed the quality. As you can see the ones you can download on EvRef is in much more poor quality than the EP itself has. People probably complain because they have the EvRef download. They are in much worse quality. The only way for me to explain it is that the EvRef download sounds more.. "compact sounding". I don't understand how EvRef's .flac files for the EP are in much lower quality as they were ripped directly form the disc. I have no idea. Even the songs are cut. If you look at the duration of the songs, they dont match to the EP.

Um, what happened to the original pictures and info that use to be in this thread? Why was it removed? Also, why was this moved to the Ev Discography section? Especially since we already have an Evanescence EP discussion topic (see second page). This topic was suppose to be on the Ev EP CD that had sensitive information in it (hence being in the Collection area where one cannot view if on Guest) like the Origin Information Thread. I is confused

I is confused When we had a surge of new members, Tyler took the info down as to avoid possible bootlegs that are more authentic then the usual bootleg. EDIT: I have realized that there are two Evanescence EP (1998) Discussion Threads. This one (FaixaFive created this as an info thread) will be merged with the one DarkFlare89 has created for discussion.

Someone was looking for the interview where Amy said the 1998 EP was fan made. I thought it was a text interview, which it was when I read it, here here is another one where she says it. It may be the same one, just not transcripted. Starts at like 5:50ish. Side note: this is where she said Swimming Home was from the electronic phase she went through. link

I just wanted to protect the EP from ending up like Origin. We already have enough bootlegs around that people spend a ton of money for. If you wish to see (not so detailed) photos of the EP, you can find them on Discogs.com -> Evanescence. If anyone needs more information regarding the release, ill gladly help, but i wont post anything here for everyone to see. Just message me here and i will get back to you. OR you can message me through my salesite on discogs.com wich you can find here: www.discogs.com/user/FredrikaskI would prefer you message me on discogs, cause i get email notifications when i get messages on there. I will also put up FaixaFive.com again, but it will include other artists i collect aswell + a sales site i will add since i sell alot of norwegian black metal nowadays. Wow why do i always end up talking for ages... Anyways; Until next time! <3

Thank you for putting these photos up here - they are both fascinating and amazing to look at. I've seen loads of photos of the Angel of Grief - but every one of then has been from the same angle. The Angel looks amazing - surprised it hasn't been vandalised yet! One thing I've noticed - assuming the angel is female - her hands are really big and chunky - they're more like a man's hands - the fingers are like big bananas! Still doesn't detract from the magnificence and sheer beauty of the sculpture

Hello everybody! first of all, I would apologise for my bad english... but I want to share with you what I have discovered about this rare EP. I found many Brad Caviness old posts (1998-1999) that are really interesting... I updated the Italian version of Evanescence Reference... you will find all sources there... "Almost every Ep tracks were aired in radio before Ep was released. Between these: Understanding"[3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10], "Give Unto Me"[6][7][11][9], and "Imaginary"[10][12]. These songs were aired during a radio show, called Blitzkrieg. This radio show was host by Brad Caviness (old Evanescence producer) in a late night time slot in a local radio station, KABF 88.3 FM. "Understanding" was the first aired track (it was also published on July in "RIM v.beta" sampler)[14]. It had so much success that people paid to listen a new song from Evanescence: "Kids actually ponied up over $100 just to hear a new song from Evancescence. God Bless them all."[6]. Ben said: " The second song we ever wrote was this seven-minute, ridiculous Goth anthem called "Understanding." And for some reason, the local rock station decided to play it a lot. We gained this popularity around town, even though no one knew who we were or where to find us. It was because we could never afford to play a show -- it was just Amy and I -- and we couldn't pay any musicians."[15]. Brad Caviness was always more interested in Evanescence[16]: "Evanescence (who is on the sampler, incidentally) are doing great on the show with their little teen-age goth pop. So great, in fact, that I'm doing a full-length for them this fall on my own Bigwig Enterprises before their deal with some other bigwig's goes into effect next year...."[16] On 8 November 1998 was aired a special show dedicated to Evanescence, where Amy and Ben were special guests in the studio for the first hour, talking about their music, playing songs new and old, talking to listeners who called in[10]. They talked about their upcoming limited edition EP *Origin* (maybe a working title for the Evanescence EP ). Between conversations, they played these songs: "Understanding", "So Close", "Gone For Days" (by The Visitors "(featuring Will Boyd, formerly of evanescence, who played on "So Close""), "Imaginary", "Exodus", "Give Unto Me", "Understanding" (unplugged) and "Goodnite" (see Goodnight)[10]. Probably "Goodnight" can be cosidered a Evanescence song (not only an Amy song) and an Evanescence EP Outtake too. you will find all sources here [http://evanescencereference.info/wiki/index.php?title=Evanescence_(EP)/it]...

Hmm, all of this is very interesting! Nice find I am posting the direct links below so if anyone wants to see the quotes' sources they can go right to them rather than through the Wiki and then to them. Many seem to come from postings via Google Groups: The following is just different dates for when various EV EP songs were played on Blitzkrieg KABF 88.3 FM in Little Rock, Arkansas. Interesting stuff. I bolded them to make them pop out and I cut out the other songs, because I'm sure no one really cares about that hehe. That's why ". . ." is there. (1) 21 June, 1998: LINK(2) 19 July 1998: LINK(3) 02 August 1998: LINK(4) 09 August 1998: LINK(5) 16 August 1998: LINK(6) 7 September 1998: LINK(7) 25 October 1998: LINK(8) 1 November 1998: LINK(9) 22 November 1998: LINK(10) 21 February 1999: LINKSo Understanding, Give Unto Me, Imaginary, and So Close were played on the radio at least once (Understanding 7 times, GUM 3 times, and then once for Imaginary & So Close - these do NOT include the time when they played the entire EP on 8 November 1998, which we will talk about below:) It's obvious that Understanding was a crowd favorite, but it seems GUM was also quite popular. So that begs the question as to why GUM was not on the EP and songs like So Close or Exodus was? Nothing wrong with either song, but it just seems weird that if GUM was that popular, you'd think it would be a shoe-in for inclusion. It also would have been cool if My Immortal in its original form got a few plays, but that's just me having wishful thinking :-P. Okay so this I think we need to talk about: LINKAgain we have the mention of Origin as the title of their EP and not "Evanescence EP" like it ended up being called, which I find so very fascinating. So maybe that was its working title? Also some questions/comments: [1] Okay, so perhaps there WAS some merit to "Goodnight" being in that made-up 1997-1998 Demos category all those years ago. If it was played in Nov 1998, then I guess it WOULD make more sense as an EV EP Outtake rather than a SA/W EP Outtake (like I originally thought). I mean, it is weird how that song was released two years later on the charity CD for Blitzkrieg (i.e. the same radio station we are talking about above), but then I stopped and thought about it and maybe it was like Together Again, a song made (in 2005) but was only released when the time came right (i.e. TA released for the Haiti Relief in 2010). So this mystery is solved. I think it's neither here nor there about what we classify Goodnight and/or Listen to the Rain as (i.e. whether they are Evanescence or Amy Lee songs) since they usually go in discographies (under EV EP and Origin respectively) anyways. [2] This is good - we know the context behind why Understanding was done acoustically in 1998. We at least know WHERE that audio comes from and WHY (i.e. the songs uber-popularity). No wonder they re-did it for SA/W EP. [3] Question. So what is "Gone For Days"? Was this a cover Evanescence did? Like did they PLAY this acoustically in the radio studio or did they just play the song via The Visitor's Gone For Days EP? If they did that . . . err well, why? I don't quite understand what would be the point of doing that, since this was suppose to showcase Evanescence. Why not play Solitude or WWYG, songs that will eventually be on the EP instead? One thing I CAN think of, since this was an interview/Q&A from fans thing that would be interrupted by them playing a song every so often - I'm thinking maybe after So Close finishes, and they talk about Will's involvement in that (him playing guitar), do they then talk about his band (or at least, the band that he is in as I don't think he was the head of it or anything) called The Visitors, which they play a song from that too. I THINK you can hear the song (if it is the same one) HERE, so check that out if you want. I'm confused what they mean about "featuring Will Boyd, formerly of evanescence" as Will Boyd JOINS Evanescence (at least in some minor capacity) in 1999 after The Visitors disbands. That is, at least, according to their Wikipedia page: LINK Yeah, so I think that's what happened - random song included to promo Will's band. [4] I wonder if those songs (Understanding/So Close/Imaginary/Exodus/Give Unto Me/Goodnight) were the tentative line up for the "Origin EP" before GUM/Goodnight were dropped and WWYG/Solitude (Ev's first song they ever created, mind you) were added in, along with The End. This radio promo thing seemed like a pre-release listen session, you know? Noctura did something similar for their CD on their local radio station (that got tons of requests just like early-Evanescence), so that's where I'm getting the idea from. Hmm, I think I might even like this line up better than what actually came out (I like GUM > Solitude + The End, and WWYG I like better on Origin than on the EP). That's just my little opinion though XD. [5] Sooooo since we for some unknown reason have audio of the acoustic Understanding (the "unplugged" as the called it), do we have audio of . . . the ENTIRE thing? Like I mean the ENTIRE interview + Q/A + songs they played? Wouldn't that be like super-epic? Just listening to that hour+ long EV EP interview about the songs and then hearing the songs. I think that would be really cool. I wonder how we could go about finding out if such a thing exists. I mean SOMEONE had to have recorded it - even if it was Brad himself! After all, if we have AUDIO of the unplugged Understanding, that means someone was doing some type of recording during the whole thing, or else where would we have gotten the unplugged audio to begin with? Here's another dream of mine . . . [6] I really really hope that Goodnight is not really spelled as Goodnite - like it wasn't some sort of intentional thing like Mystary or something. Arg. I really hope not. Ignore Mode - ON. Last for the new quotes we have this, which talks about the RIM v. Beta release: LINKSomeone then asked this question, but it was never answered: Other random conversation: LINKSo yeah that should be all the stuff from the quotes above (from the Italian EvRef). Thanks again alocin for your great sleuthing skills!

You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to, but PJ is there anything neat on the cassette that you learned about the early EV EP songs? Do they like say anything about the songs that we otherwise wouldn't know about them? Early Evanescence info about early songs are so hard to come by, especially since Amy + Ben's memory of what they wrote often fails them
