Lyrics:
2, 3, 4
0:00 - 0:14
How many times have you told me you love her?
As many times as I wanted to tell you the truth
How long have I stood here beside you?
I live through you, you looked through me
Ooh, solitude
Still with me is only you
Ooh, solitude
I can't stay away from you
1:22 - 1:40
How many times have I don't this to myself? Hmm
How long will it take before I see?
When will this hole in my heart be mended?
Who now is left alone but me?
Ooh, solitude
Forever me and forever you
Ooh, solitude
Only you, only true
Everyone leaves me stranded,
Forgotten, abandoned, left behind
I can't stay here another night
3:13 - 3:19
Your secret admirer,
Who could it be?
Ooh, Can't you see all along it was me?
How can you be so blind as to see right through me?
And ooh, solitude
Still with me is only you
Ooh, solitude
I can't stay away from you, Ooh
And ooh solitude
Forever me and forever you
Ooh, solitude
Only you, only true
4:50 - 5:44
Song:
Some Things To Think About/Debate Over
-This is the first Evanescence song ever created (as per the casette Amy found in her attic that had Solitude and Understanding on it).
Amy found a cassette with the two songs on it in her attic. I thought maybe she could auction it off for OotS or something, what do you guys think? Sometimes demos and session versions are very interesting to listen to and other times you realize that a song just needs a little extra to become the masterpiece it ends up as. I wonder what they sound like. I can imagine Solitude is good but Understanding has got to be pretty different.
-This song was created during a friendly competition between Amy and Ben: The order went Solitude (Amy), Understanding (Ben), Give Unto Me (Piano-Vocal) (Amy), My Immortal (Piano-Vocal) (Ben). Those are the first four Evanescence songs; Ben claims Amy won the competition with Give Unto Me.
We all know it's from Amy to Ben. No need to be shifty. We all know the story/myth/legend:
Amy wrote Solitude to Ben as a sort of 'love letter'.
Ben then wrote Understanding to impress Amy.
Amy then wrote Give Unto Me to basically say "ha I'm better then you!" to Ben.
Ben then wanted to write an equally good piano-ballad, so he wrote My Immortal.
I don't think they ever decided on who won that 'contest'. Though I've heard that Ben always thought Amy had won it with Give Unto Me - I'm not sure though, just something I heard.
-People who don't know any better call this song "Secret Admirer."
-According to the EvReference: Will Boyd is credited with bass, backup vocals and guitar on this work, while Matt Outlaw is credited with drums.
SOURCE-The ending of this song was stripped down to create the song "The End."
