Yeah, it's fine to state opinions, and counter opinions. There is nothing wrong with a healthy discussion, but there is no need to draw it out and have people's feelings get hurt.

I thought members of staff were supposed to remain neutral and not get involved with arguments (of course they have opinions to express any other time), but if this argument had been between 2 users and not a member of staff as well, this probably would've been closed a while back. I know some of us are antsy and upset regarding Ev being up in the air and Amy taking personal time, but still there are better things we could do with our time. Perhaps we can have an ongoing competition like with did on the old EvThreads, I think it was called "Design the third Evanescence album" and it was run by Deteriorate/X at the time. Every few weeks, we would be given a task (design the album cover, design a tour poster, create an interview spread, design a magazine cover, create a track-list etc.) and a winner chosen for each. I remember we had LOADS of fun with that and I would love if we could do that again, there was zero drama surrounding that thread. I'll try to respond in parts: - We don't close threads unless it's strictly necessary. I know this would probably happen back in old ET, but things were different back then: much old drama coming from past years, members who were young and who lacked some judgement (my case, actually) and the number of members was crazy because ET was much more active. Now this ET is new, the staff is made by old ET regular members. Each one of us has an opinion and I haven't seen any lack of respect here but exchange of opinions. I think all of us, or at least most of us live in areas where there is freedom of speech to some extent. I haven't seen any lack of respect. If you did, please talk to one of the staff members so we can analyze it, because so far I haven't seen any lack of it. - Regarding competitions and whatnot, I think it is an awesome idea, I thought of it a few times as well but unfortunately the band is on hiatus for a very long time now and that means that we have very few members active right now, which means that only a couple or three would participate. This is fun when you have a plentiful to choose from. It doesn't seem, at least to me, feasible or fun for the time being. If anyone has anything to add to what I said, please do.

Calling people "douche-bags" is pretty disrespectful but the post I'm referring to has since been edited, so there's no proof of it now. I do understand that staff members have opinions and I never said they shouldn't express it. What I mean is, is it necessary to argue back when modding? I thought the point was to calm the situation, not to further fuel the fire. That's just how it comes across to me. Either way, that's all I wanted to say, I will leave it be now.

There comes a time for modding. Just because some members are staff, doesn't mean they are modding every time they post. That's why we have an assigned color for when we ARE modding. Just because we are staff, doesn't mean we can't participate in discussions...

I remember we had LOADS of fun with that and I would love if we could do that again, there was zero drama surrounding that thread. Love this idea Edit: But yeah, I can see why it can become contentious. It's the same problem that we've had in the past where staff members have an opinion on a subject and it's sort of that ambiguity between "am I moderating or am I involved in the debate, and to what extent do moderators have greater influence in a debate due to their divine forum powers of awesome". I think that's why it's good that we've got a few staff members, because it's pretty rare that every staff member has exactly the same opinion on a subject, which allows for some to get more involved in the debate whilst others can keep their neutrality mod-hat on, on the off chance it's needed. There's always room for a healthy debate, but the last thing anybody on this forum wants is for non-staff members to get chased off for having a differing opinion, I think. --- Just realised we've gone way off subject. So... Kerrang!

I didn't resort to name calling. I'm also not "singling" you out. I'm just expressing my opinion on what you wrote. I'm also not upset at your viewpoints. I just don't agree with them. Stating that your posts reek of entitlement isn't a critique of the work, but it is a critique and personal opinion on your viewpoint (which I'm entitled to do as soon as you hit that post button). Also, judging an opinion is also part of open discourse. Feel free to judge all of mine. I honestly don't think you were being attacked personally, and yes, I do agree that expressing negative opinions about an artist on their fan forum will have negative reactions. I appreciate art, and I'm not saying your point is invalid. I just don't agree with it. I'm sorry if you felt disrespected, but that's not my fault. I also don't appreciate that you are accusing me of doing things that I'm not doing. I don't know you, so I won't disrespect you, but don't take someone disagreeing with your opinion as a "personal attack". Calling someone "entitled" is name calling and singling out. It is a personal attack and not what you say is a "critique of my opinion". I absolutely don't understand how you can logically say that it isn't a personal attack, and I'm not even looking for your reasons. I am not accusing you of anything that you have not done. Once again, you can disagree with my stance without disrespect.

If ANYONE has anymore complaints about this... I'm not even going to call it a discussion anymore because quite frankly, this is just childish and embarrassing that WE can't even act civilized and talk calmly about things when others disagree with our opinions... then please PM the person you (general statement) are arguing with.

Maybe we should have a thread devoted entirely to drama and name-calling. Like, if you're feeling bitchy you can just jump in that thread and tear a random person on the internet down until you feel better. It'd be easier on the mods, too, cuz you wouldn't have to moderate all the attitude and word-choices in that thread. Hmmm? Hmmmmmmmmm?

THE real life Drama/Soap Opera thread LAST TIME ON EVTHREADS... Haha, I guess people could just have an angsty 'dear you' rant instead. Slightly less mean to the person you're attacking, since it's non-direct. That, or we could have a 'rant' thread (if there isn't one already), because that would be hilarious.

The Dear You thread can pretty much be used as a rant thread if people feel the need. Now if we could get back to the topic of Amy's Kerrang interview that would be grand...
