How much do you think the next Evanescence album or Amy's solo album will sell? Consider the sales of Ev3 and the current long hiatus.

It really depends on how it is released and if there is good promotion. Amy is so talented she could still release a hit single if the universe works in her favor. But my opinion is that it wont be too much... But I really don't care about that. Independent artists are in right now and if she can get airplay on indie stations she will be set.
About the hiatus.... it is probably just me but the Open Door one seemed to drag on forever and this one definitely hasn't seemed like it has been too long as of yet. Maybe it is because I am older now?

I think we'll be surprised in 2017. That's my prediction.

Yeah, the length of the hiatus won't necessarily have negative effects on sales of the next Ev album, and there's probably less of a chance of it affecting any solo work Amy releases. As far as I know, for something to be a hit, you need just the right mix of promotion and good product, with a dash of good timing. With the recent popularity of artists like Lana Del Rey, if Amy were to release a solo album soon, I can see it doing pretty darn well. As for an Evanescence album, I predict a comeback in popular rock music in the next two or three years (though I'm probably really wrong), and if Ev were to release an album at the beginning of that, and if they had enough promotion prior to release, then I think the sales would be excellent.
(note that I know jack all about the music industry and I'm most likely waaay off with everything I've just said. lol)

It's gonna depend on how the music industry will look like when they ever do make an album. With the new label hopefully they are going to adapt to the industry. Like I've said before I hope there is more promotion that goes around.
But I dunno. I think I'm gonna be optimistic this time around and say they will sell really well. If Amy is finally gonna have the freedom that she's always wanted then watch out world!

It really depends but promotion is definitely a big factor. Sometimes, a tv performance alone can sell more albums than a hit single.
Though, I have to say that if the albums (TOD & Ev3) didn't leak a month before their release date, I could see them opening with bigger numbers. There's also the fact that both albums exceeded their debut week sales predictions; TOD was predicted to sell 350-400k but sold 447k (I can also imagine TOD opening with 550k-700k if it was released a year earlier.) and Ev3 was predicted to sell 120k and sold 127k (though I think Soundscan have it at 130k). Usually, artists tend to sell lower than what they are predicted to sell.
Ev is also a rock band with a pop audience, but with Ev3 I don't think a lot of Ev's "casual" pop fans even know they have an album, What You Want, while catchy doesn't have the multi-format appeal that Call Me When You're Sober have. A double lead single (Lost in Paradise to Pop & What You Want to Rock) would have been a better approach.
Ev's comeback also had an abysmal promotion. Fortunately the sales, while significantly lower than the previous two albums, is still impressive (More than a million (with (+-)500k in the US) World Wide with 1 (US) Rock hit.)
As for the future sales of Ev and Amy's solo record, well if Amy decided to release those albums as an unsigned artist (not signed to an independent or major labels), I think it might be harder for Amy and/Ev to get played on the radio but of course she's a veteran in the industry so radios might be more lax.
Let's say that Amy's solo recording is out first. If Amy somehow managed to get a hit single, I could see Amy opening to a bigger number than Ev3, maybe 150k-175k (US). But if the single didn't make any splash, I could see it selling less than 75k. Depending if future singles will be a hit or if there will be 2 or 3 more singles, overall sales could either exceed, fail or match the numbers of Ev3. There's also the promo, if Amy were to release an album this year, I don't think promo would be an issue since if things go according to plan we'll have the Legends & Lyrics, PBS special with Dave Eggar and the trailer (if shown on TV) for War Story. They might not be promoting new Amy solo materials but it will generate interest.
Then if Amy were to released an Ev album a year or right after the solo album, then I could see Ev4 do fairly well. Since the solo album (regardless if it's a hit or not) will act as a buzz album and interest will spill over to Ev4.

I'm hoping that the promotion of Amy/Ev album will improve. Better promotion, the bigger sales they could receive as simple as that. The more people informed through promotion, the more people will buy an Amy/Ev album.

(i'm not sure if this was discussed before, but are you guys sure about the system of "leaking" these albums in the past? i felt like both these leaks were kind of planned... people were shocked and pissed off but EVERYONE listened to it. Interesting buzz maker but it won't work for Amy's solo. But I agree, the solo album could definitely help to raise the public interest in Ev.)

I don't think it'll sell even nearly as good as the former records has done, simply because there are other ways of purchasing music than buying a physical cd.

Ohh, I love theory threads!
How do you guys think anyone outside of the "hardcore Ev fan" circle will react to Amy releasing a solo album? Think of casual Ev fans, rock fans, and even "mainstream" fans. I think most will be shocked, as they most likely didn't see it coming. If (or maybe when, at this point) Amy releases a solo album, I think the surprise will cause a lot of waves, and therefore promotion. I may just be talking out my ass, but it's kind of plausible?

I think the media will talk about it. They are going to be so surprised by her solo work. I think they showed interest back in 2010. I don't know. Personally, I would love to see a solo album and would definitely buy it and support it.

I'd get it if it was leaked a week or even two weeks before the release date or even just a couple of songs but a month? By then, it's already old news and some if not most casual listeners who had intention of buying the album would just keep their downloads. There's also the fact that the internet is fast; once something is out, it spreads lightning fast. A month is more than enough to have links posted all over the internet or songs uploaded to youtube. They might as well have given the album away for free. If it was planned, then that was s***** marketing. lol The albums should have been released 2 weeks after the leaks and in between, they could have promoted the new release date.

I hope they react like that. They should react like that. I mean the other would be to think Amy is breaking up the band or something. Ev has too much negative history with breakups. I think detractors will look at that.

I honestly don't think a solo album well sell well or have any hits. I mean look at tarja's solo career, the music is fsntastic but the sales are not so don't expect big numbers. Also being a member of a really popular band means nothing either, remember the Jonas bros? They were a pop sensation but joe's solo album flopped. Anyway. I would just be REALLY happy and thankful for anything new from amy (or ev lol), regardless of the sales.
