Trans-Siberian Orchestra is great. I'm confident in Amy going solo. She'll probably still do Evanescence projects when appropriate. But frankly, Amy and Terry ARE Evanescence. Specifically, Amy. Instruments can be played by collaborators. Ultimately, she writes the material and it's her voice that makes the music what it is. As long as that is consistent, it'll always be Evanescence to me.

^^^ This, I wholeheartedly agree. Whatever Amy does will always sound ev to me, coz she is ev. I disagree. I think that Ev is a certain thing. Just as Amy has said. It is nu-metal laced with classical, electronic and pop. Take those away and place Amy's voice over something else and it will sound entirely different

Agreeing with moe. Recalling how different the Lillywhite sessions sounds from anything labled Ev, I definitly think her supposed solo songs will sound pretty different from anything Ev. Besides, why would she go solo and write the same type of songs as she does for Ev?

I disagree. The Lillywhite sessions may have had more electronic-oriented instrumentation, but it felt like Evanescence to me. Thematically, the lyrics were still beautiful, her voice was haunting and the production was hypnotic and ethereal. To me, it doesn't matter what the instruments behind her are as long as they create the same atmosphere as classic Evanescence alongside her voice.

That's the third time I try to write something about it but honestly, I don't know what to think... "New album, solo project"... Even though she used to write, basically, all the songs alone, that's not enough to tell how a solo project would sound like. But I also doubt that the lyrics itself would be very, very different... If there is one thing I learned with Evanescence, is that the only thing we can do is wait C'mon Amy, surprise me!

I'm trying not to get people's hopes up when I say this, including my own, but I'd love it if some / most / all of the Lillywhite recordings, specifically Perfect Dream, end up on this potential solo record. (I feel like I say that all the time.)
And if this quote from a 2011 interview is anything to go by, that's certainly possible:
Though I'm still a little confused whether Amy actually can put those recordings out or not, given the whole lawsuit and change to Bicycle. Hmmm

Well, Perfect Dream is the one I'd love to hear the most. But Amy's solo project will be awesome even without it.

I'm excited for all this new stuff. COMPLETE artistic liberty without the label telling her what she can and can't do? YES PLZ. I can't wait to see what new and old directions she takes us along with her new music. It's Amy. When has she ever let us down with any of her music? I think any speculation at this point (while fun) is pointless since she always manages to surprise us and captivate us with her work.

Yeah, but it's fun to speculate and see how close or way off we were from the target, once the tunes are out.

YES! Let that stompin steve song come out already! I hope she doesn't have troubles to release that one, I've been wanting to hear it for years now, so I hope she uses it. Just to put out there my two cents, I think that lyrics wise, Amy never changes much. She has a certain way of writing she repeats whether she's with the guys or with someone else, so I'm not expecting major changes in the way she'll write, maybe she'll talk about new subjects this time, such as motherhood or being finally free from her label. And musically, I think it's a similar situation. Like for example, on EV3 we have Secret Door and Swimming Home. They sound different from Ev's typical sound, but at the same time they don't necessarily sound out of place on the album. I can imagine similar songs to SH and SD on an Amy Lee solo record and they wouldn't sound out of place either. Same with Find a Way, it sound like an Amy Lee song which it is, but a similar song wouldn't surprise me on the next Evanescence record. I've always thought that Evanescence as a band has the potential to reinvent itself, but Wind Up was always getting in the middle of it one way or the other. When I heard that stomping steve short audio I thought that it was exactly what I was expecting from EV given the info Amy was giving to us at that time, a new direction, something unexpected, something that didn't sound like them right away. While I'd love an Amy Lee record, I'm also very excited to see how Ev will sound like now that they have complete freeedom over their music, so I hope this isn't the end of the band. I personally think it won't be, I don't see a strong reason for Ev and Amy as a solo artist to be incompatible.

Hmmm Given that she was sort of forced (wrong word use, maybe?) to "sound more like Evanescence" so I think she didn't want to talk about her electro-driven songs. I mean, she was sort of avoiding to give more information about it back then. "Oh, it was just a phase...", she said. I'm sorry I stumbled over some words. But I do hope the songs will see the light of day someday. And I can feel the difference between a Ev song and a Amy song. lol

it's exciting to read the new interviews with dave and this guy. and I really LOVED the sneak peek of Lockdown. It sounds fresh and different and Amy Lee-ish at the same time. now all we want is a new interview with Amy

SPECULATION! I reckon, even if this info isn't 100% true, the next thing we're going to get will be an Amy Lee record of some sort. I'm not even sure if a 'record' will even be the correct term for it, because I have a feeling that with her new found freedom she'll find some way to break the status quo and do something that's never been done before. Then, when the time's right, we'll get Ev4, because Ev are like Tool. Long gaps between records, lots of speculation as to if and when they come back (and not a complete absence of trolling on the part of the band and those associated with it to this end ) and then they come back with something that pretty much rewrites the rules of heavy/alternative music. I guess it'll be a while, and there's always the chance that not all of them will be there for it, but they'll return, because Evanescence is greater than the sum of its members, Evanescence is an idea. One that's already stood the test of time and one that's unlikely to die anytime soon.
