So there was a time when I didn't like this song very much. When TOD came out, I thought this song and Cloud Nine stuck out like a sore thumb.
But now with the release of 'Evanescence' I've found myself listening to it more. If they had put this song on E3 I don't think it would have sounded that out of place.
I think my tastes have changed and that I've grown to appreciate it because of the material on E3.

Its really funny that you said that..........the last month or so I've been playing TOD almost constantly.....and have enjoyed it much more than ever before..... I wonder if anyone else has done this?

I love how heavy and raw this song is! It's so open and direct!

I didn't like this song before Ev3 came out. It was too heavy and the high notes sounded annoying in my opinion. After the release of Ev3 I started to like it and now it's my favorite song off TOD

I, like many others apparently, didn't like this song when TOD came out... But in recent months it's become one of my absolute favorites. It's really not a heavy song when you pay close attention to it. It's like Erase This in that it has the aggression that kinds of steals attention from the more delicate elements of the song when really it's those elements that make the song great. The chorus is kind of blah until it gets to "who I used to be", but it's a great song. If I ranked all the Evanescence songs ever released, it'd be very high on the list.

I've always liked WotW. It was one of the easiest songs off TOD to get into (next to the singles and "the only one") during that first period listening to the album after buying it, IMO.
It's got some repetitive lyrics and some cliches, which seem to be Amy's trademark. But all in all, i've always enjoyed it. I love how agressive it is. Listening to songs like this one and SS when i'm fed up of a particular situation is a real relief.

Part of why I like it so much now is that it is really easy to get into unlike much of TOD (though I hated it at first because I despise guitars, hehehe), but it also stays in touch with the more creative elements unlike CMWYS or Lithium... Like those glockenspiels in the verses. I think they're glockenspiels... I can't listen to the song right now to verify, but I'm pretty sure that's what they are.... And some interesting things going on in the back up vocals.

A little off-topic, but you despise guitars? What? x)

Why are you guys saying the WOTW is heavy? there's 'heavier' songs on TOD and Fallen is heavier than WOTW. This song is one of my least favourite on the album. I LOVE the verses, but I feel like the chorus ruins the song, like the chorus doesn't live up to how good the verses are.

@malin:
Yes. I think they're obnoxious, loud, and overused. Thankfully, early Evanescence never had a huge emphasis on guitars and had more eclectic sounds than other bands, so I got into them. Now that I'm older I can "appreciate" guitars in a different way, which is why I can enjoy Ev3, but Ev is literally the only music I listen to with guitar as a main instrument. I also enjoy electric more than acoustic (which I can't even listen to without cringing)... Again, thankfully Ev doesn't use much acoustic guitar.
