Do you guys remember that in the Making of Fallen videos (at 0:37), when they were doing Imaginary, Ben said the "old, old school version" (which I'm assuming would be the EP version, unless there is an older version) had clipping vocals. What are clipping vocals and how can one tell they are "clipping"?

And David never listened to it because it didn't start with guitars or something like that. I find that pretty wierd. And I have no idea what they mean by "clipping vocals."

No. He said he never listened to the EP version because he didn't LIKE the guitars in the beginning.
"The old one-- I don't know if I told you Amy, but I-- The one on the little EP, I never listened to it because I just didn't like that (inaudible) guitars in the beginning."

My memory is terrible, lol.
Anyway, this is by far my least favorite version of Imaginary.

Listening to it while putting together the lyrics in the first post was... I don't want to say torture, but it was pretty hard on my ears... Sorry Imaginary Old School Version... Though you have grown from an ugly duckling to a beautiful and epic swan! P.s. I also have my .pdf of the "Versions: Differentiated" for this song.

Clipping vocals basically means that the vocals are so loud that they ..."static"? I don't know how to describe it, but the vocals are just a LOT louder.
For example, the Origin vocals for Imaginary are even and not too loud.
The EP vocals are VERY loud on my iPod, and I need to turn it down anytime Amy says "Innnnnn myyyyyy fieeeeld of paper FLOWWWWWWWERRRRS"
This is also noticeable on the EP version of WWYG.
Anywho, I LOVE the guitar intro on this one. It's my favorite intro.

So I'm a bit confused here. Do only the EP & Origin versions of songs that are on Fallen also get their own separate topics? I ask this because, technically, if this is the case then we could use an My Immortal (Origin) and a Whisper (EP) thread as well. Personally, I was going (when the time came to it) to petition to merge all the duplicate song versions into their main Fallen one and have one main topic for the song in general, just like how we talk about the demo versions within their main topic (for example, talking about the TOM v1 & v2 demo in the TOM Fallen topic, not having separate demo topics) or when we talk about either the EP or the Origin WWYG version in the main WWYG topic (not having a WWYG EP and a WWYG Origin thread). So merging Imaginary (EP) + Imaginary (Origin) into Imaginary (Fallen), is what I thought was going to happen. Since that is what I planned anyways for when I make my posts on Imaginary (or whatever), they'd get posted in one topic (that is what we did, after all, with Understanding, GUM, and any song that had a 2001 - 2002 Demo for example - there isn't a separate Understanding EP and Understanding SA/W EP thread, for example). That is unless the Fallen songs require we have separate topics about them, from their demos. If this is the case, then do we need two (an EP and an Origin) or should we just have one for the demos and one for Fallen? Furthermore, how do we split the demos? If there are three Whisper topics (EP, Origin, Fallen) then does We The Living & Post-SA go with the EP; Automata go with Origin; and Whisper Post-Origin go with Fallen? So, those are my questions

I just figured, since we do have a thread for Imaginary (Origin), I could make an Imaginary EP thread. lol. It would make more sense to have one topic for all the versions of one song, as many people would just look for one main thread. Though having a thread for all the other versions seems like it would be more organized, but... then again, that would make a lot more work for mods/admins when people don't pay attention to what thread they're in. I'll talk to the other mods since BlakenTheDay was the one who did most of the song stuff, and see what they say.

I was browsing through EvBoard and I found this: SourceBen wrote Imaginary? Where the hell did they get that info from? Oh I have no idea about Imaginary. We have Amy's journal with those hand-written lyrics right? I don't think it is likely that Ben had a major part in that song - it is about Amy's room after all, right? Um, Ben AND Amy wrote Going Under? Um, what? Isn't Going Under, um . . . about Ben? That must have been awkward. LOL about Haunted though. Amy's hand-written lyrics must not have come out yet during EvBoard 2003: SOURCESOURCEAmy wrote the bridge to My Immortal; which is weird when Ben did his version of it why he didn't use the original lyrics (that would have been so cool ) P.S. How did you access EvBoard's 2003 archives through WayBack? ME WANTS TO KNOW

P.S. How did you access EvBoard's 2003 archives through WayBack? ME WANTS TO KNOW I looked on EvBoard for where I found Ben's quote I posted in the AOTS thread, and I found it ( here) and I put the source through Wayback and... yeah. Ben must have posted that after the first page, since it isn't in the first page of the page (but unfortunately Wayback doesn't have the other pages archived ). By the way, I still haven't found anything about Imaginary being written about Amy's bedroom.

First off, it's EvBoard. There's a lot of misinformation on EvBoard. Ben wrote the story for Haunted (which I said in the AOTS thread). Amy said in a few interviews that Imaginary was written about her bedroom and wanting to escape the reality of life sometimes. Someone on the old EvBoard (or maybe it was FOI) said that Imaginary was part of a prayer that they do backstage before shows... Well that's false... haha!

For me, discussing any Evanescence song is interesting because they can be interpreted in many ways. The most interesting Ev song for me has always been Imaginary.Because no matter how I try to over look these references in the song, I can not. The lyrics " I linger in the door way, of alarm clock screaming monsters calling my name." I assume it to be a reference to the old theory that "Ghosts can come through doorways of houses, and rooms.the triple Goddess known as Hecate stands in the door way to deflect them."
So "I linger in the door way, of alarm clock screaming monsters calling my name. Let me stay where the wind will whisper to me. Where the rain drops as their falling tell the story." In other words, she is battling her mind as to whether she wants to go down to the world of the dead or stay in the land of the living. I don't believe the song is truly about her but it is more or less about Hecate (the goddess of light/night). The constant re-occurrence of Ancient references being made.Maybe I'm a weirdo, but I just happened to notice this. I am a big mythology nerd, so I tend to do a lot of reading in my spare time and I study religion. This seems to be the most plausible theory for this song. A re telling of a tale of old. Yet, give or take it can also be a whimsical journey into the mind. lol

I always assumed it was just a metaphor; lingering in the doorway between being awake and asleep, not wanting to be woken up (by "alarm clock screaming monsters") to face the real world.

Yep, also another possibility. That is how Amy defines her songs. Open for interpretation.
